OMG, hearing how loud it is again was a throwback for me. I've got a TAZ 6 with many upgrades and the Archim2 board makes it virtually silent! Great work getting it going again!

The archim board is SO worth upgrading to. I bought the kit from itworks3d

Hello, It’s so refreshing to see a video about the TAZ 6! I’m currently a Junior at a university in Texas and I work in our campus’ Makerspace as a student worker. The space has outgrown the Lulzbots so we upgraded to some awesome Ultimaker S3s/S5/S7! A big perk from working there is that I bagged a used TAZ for super cheap… but a down side is now that I have to upkeep with all of the extra “quirks” of this machine. I hate the build plate, but I liked your idea of putting a magnetic one on, and offsetting the x-axis! I will admit that I have plans to take apart the whole thing, and spray paint the frame (not rails) glittery pink. It might as well match my apartment! This printer is a little bit of an eye sore… but that’s okay! You’re one of the few creators that have made a recent video about the TAZ 6 (since 2016)! If you have any guidance during that whole process I’d appreciate it! Have you seen anyone take apart a printer to repaint it?

I’d love to hear how it goes! The Wham Bam surfaces are great! The Lulzbot Community Forum is a good resource too

Very cool. I grabbed 2 Taz 5s both were on eBay as "for parts only". One of them the entire structure was not squared off, and one of the lead screw supports was even upside down. LCD screen cracked but I think that broke in transit. Toolhead jammed. The other the print bed was shattered, Rambo card had a blown fuse, wiring was completely wrong, etc. Got each machine for $200. Spent around $200 in parts for both and the one that was assembled complete wrong took me about 7 hrs to get it together correctly and wired correctly, wow was the wiring a mess. One of them I built the Moarstruder with 2.85filament, 1.2mm nozzle. Very cool for prototyping and in Vase mode it is super cool. Looks like thick thread around the vase. The other I use either the stock .5 nozzle that I rebuilt and I built an E3D titan toolhead. I did upgrade one to a removable flexible PEI bed, the other I put a new PEI sheet on top of the original plate. Both are really super cool. I do have a VORON for the fast speed printing but I'm in no rush as I have 11 printers and I can spread parts across multiple machines. I do a lot of robotics, arduino, raspberry stuff or functional prints. Nice channel.

I’m saving to put an M175 on mine so it can use 1.75mm filament and then Slice hotend is fantastic

Hey there, we've run in to each other on the Lulzbot forums. I'm the guy who also has a Taz Pro XT. I've mulled over getting those two linear rail upgrades (but for my Workhorse) but decided against it because you still have the z axis to deal with. That's where most of the wobble is really coming from, in my opinion. There's inherent runout/twist in the x gantry that unless the z axis itself is also upgraded is just going to persist - making the investment in the x/y linear rails pointless. And if you are going to replace all three axes - you might as well just get a new printer. I have a Taz 6 - also with a 1.2 mm tool head - and when you are laying down 0.8+ layers at 2+ width it really doesn't matter how wobbly the tool head is since you are printing at an absurd slow speed anyway.

Hey! Great points. I still want a M175 so I can use 1.75mm filament. And the Mosquito is a very versatile hot end

@WhereNerdyisCool I have a mosquito hot end on a bondtech LGX but it’s on my Voron. Makes some super nice prints. Little surprised that I can’t crank up the speed and match the bambu labs 16 minute benchy but it’s fast enough as I can crank out a benchy in about 22 minutes and it looks better than the Bambu 16 minute ones. One time a wire on my heat break fan came off so I had a filament jam in the heat break. The mosquito does make it a little more difficult to clear heat break jams.

Speed isn’t everything. I’m happy printing slower and getting less fails and great prints.

Just picked up a Taz6 at a surplus auction. Sold as is. I turned it on for the first time last night. Did a auto home, and it made this awful noise and then said homing failed, printer halted, please reset. It seems the y axis is fine. The x axis is making the noise. The z axis won't even move. New to 3-d printing. First ever printer. What do I need to do to fix the problem? Thanks

I have an old Taz 6. I got it cheap because of the famous bed leveling failed...again and again! I'm trying to upgrade to a BL Touch. But I'm not having much luck and the printer is now almost 8 years old, so info is little to none on this printer.
