Red Tool House - Homestead

Күн бұрын

In this video, Kelly and the boys help me mill some poplar logs we had in inventory in order to restock our supply of the most used lumber here on the homestead. 1x7s, 2x4s, and 2x6s, are in constant need and we ran out recently. Having to go to the box store and purchase low grade lumber at crazy prices, reenforced why I need to keep the mill running!

Uh hello I dont appreciate the sawdust in my eyes 😁😆 It's really cool seeing the little lady doing so much of the machinery work. It's actually good exercise to push the mill like that.and carrying the boards over and stacking them to.so your getting your exercise while making lumber for future projects and that great.and the young man helping out driving the tractor to the slab pile. Nice to see family out working together and not have the kids inside on iPad laptops cell phones and computers .seems thats most of what takes place these days especially now with covid. Nice little stack of boards and so much cheaper. Your right lumber is outrageously expensive. I cant believe people are still building homes right now. There getting alot less home for alot more money or there still building there huge dream home and really getting ribbed with the price. Somehow we've got to solve the dispute with Canada over lumber .I think I heard it was soft woods but not sure. Dang I wish I had bought a 100 acres when I moved down here to WESTERN NC in 1986. It was so much cheaper back then and now its ridiculous. Only the well off are buying big parcels of land these days. Ok I wrote another novel .sorry LOL . Be safe warm and healthy folks 8

Wish I could use rough uncertified lumber. When I built my home around 11 yrs ago now the code enforcement officer told me this... that in pennsylvania I could not use rough uncertified lumber for anything structural. I couldn't even build shed or a dog house with it. We didn't discuss if it was to code to use it for siding or shingles. Pennsylvania is not very homestead friendly.
