My no-buy list: 1. Tops that have sleeves ending near the elbow: looks cool on models, looks sloppy on me 2. Shoes that are hard to get in and out of, as they don’t suit my lifestyle 3. Drying lipsticks 4. Sweaters, blazers or jackets with high acrylic content

Clothing without pockets! Those elbow length sleeves exist because manufacturers are too cheap and sloppy to produce the appropriate arm length on various sizes. It also saves fabric. I think they look cheap (because they are!)

I had the same realization about beiges recently, too. I think I'm a similar skin tone saturation as you and mid-tones kind of wash me out

Me too (light skin, light hair, and camel doesn’t look good at all). Wanted a camel coat though, but I find tan/caramel versions a bit better.

I feel the same about beige and camel. I love looking at these colors but when I wear them, I just get lost. One of the main reasons I can't feel confident when I wear the traditional trench coat and khaki trousers.

The blue sweater you are knitting looks so beautiful already! I hope you’ll show it to us later. I can really relate to no minimalist/sculptural shapes. I’m focusing on flattering my body as best I can.

I never thought about a 'no-buy' list, but I should definitely consider that. I have a tendency to immediately jump on something that is on sale if I like it. But I also noticed that there are things that still have tags on them in my closet so obviously, I haven't worn them yet. Not good!

My no-buy for January-March 2025: 1. jeans - i have enough of them 2. jewellery - too expensive and my small collection is so far good enough 3. mary janes - too troublesome to wear and take off 4. t shirt - enough of them 5. bags - already enough 😊

In the UK I've been buying my make-up from Primark, inexpensive and really good - mascara £1, foundation £3, nude glossy lipstick £3, they were discontinuing it and the shade of nude was so good on me, I bought about 12. I won't pay silly designer prices, I haven't found their make-up much better than inexpensive Primark or pharmacy brands

I bought a few striped tops lately, mainly from Massimo Dutti, I was inspired by the way they style them on their website. All neutral colours, brown, grey, navy, black, I'll wear them to add a bit of pattern to my monochrome/solid colour outfits. I also bought a thermal striped top from Marks & Spencer's, it can be worn as an ordinary top so it's double function, it's grey with a thin white stripe. I so agree with you re: shirts and boxy Scandi pieces from Cos and similar brands, they simply overpower my petite shape, I'll leave them to those beautiful blonde tall Swedish ladies who look amazing in oversize clothes, but they're not for me. I'm very much planning to buy as little as possible in 2025 and beyond, the only exceptions will be really outstanding pieces on my wish list. Otherwise I have plenty of everything, I'll enjoy playing with and styling what I already have, mixing high and low, dressing up or down. My main problem is my fluctuating weight, some days I feel so bad about my body, and it takes so long to get back in shape, but clothes and style are a motivator and also good for my mental health, better than spending money on alcohol or something equally harmful.

I am also tall and slim, yet oversized is also not for me, because I am curvy and balanced and have very narrow joints, so oversized thing just overwhelm my delicate frame and features. I think I am a dramatic classic in Kibbie, and have classic dramatic ethereal essence. So the architectural and minimalistic sporty outfits are just not my style.

Great video Helen! I do recognize a lot of no buys. I am also no longer buying collar shirts because they just look very sloppy on me, just not me. A wishlist always works. 😊

Thank you so much! this is so helpful! You've helped me to consider fabrics more and more when considering a piece. I would love to hear even more about your experience with piling, which items are more/less likely to pile and when/how you can remove/save the garment.

This makes so much sense! When I see KZbinrs buying so many duplicates or similar items like ten white frill skirts just for a video, I feel like it’s such a waste of money! Yes, I need my list of not to buy :) I think it’ s no to black items, too oversized, or cheap outwears for now! I would recommend investing in Korean wool coats if you can. So much worth it, you can get 80% wool coats around $250 or less with style.

I have jeans and pants in every style and color. I have zero excuse to buy one more. I am retired therefore collared shirts are not my daily wear. However I just bought 3 shrug shirts in sheer white, black, and white lace. They wear without bulk and look lovely under vests, tees, and sleeveless dresses. They hand wash and dry easily and pack super light for travel.

Im in the process of trying to reimagine my closet because i would always buy cheap, and impulsively; never really loving my wardrobe. I would never buy pieces that fit properly or weren't versatile. I would literally wear the same 3 fits all the time. But your page has really helped me curate a stable and fashionable closet! Still in the process of doing it but i found some jeans and sweaters that i LOVE! Thanks for doing the work you do!

Omg me too girl. For some reason I never feel completely satisfied or content with my wardrobe so I end up buying clothes I thought I need but end up not wearing. Also shopping on shein is addictive since its cheap, but the quality sucks.

I have delicate skin and usually only tolerate merino wool, cashmere and wool cotton blends. I used to have a Sezane sweater with polyamide and it drove me crazy. This year I’m not buying any more jeans, I want to wear more comfortable pants

Hi Helen lovely video and ideas. I have jeans similar to your Frame ones and in this day of loose clothing they are not getting much love. would love some styling ideas for straight leg or slimmer fitting jeans.

Love those Frame jeans on you! I agree on the boxy buttoned down shirts not looking great on me either. I only look good in the more tailored fitted ones but hard to find them these days. I had a few many years ago that I loved but they no longer fit me. :)

The main no-buy for me this year is dresses in solid colours. I have plenty of those and am always tempted to buy more. Only allowing myself to buy a dress if it' has a pattern this year (I'm picky about patterns, so that narrows buying temptations considerably).

I’m the opposite, I’m on a low buy from dresses overall but im band from buying floral dresses. I already own LOT and I want to enjoy those. I can get solid or simple patterned dresses IF it checks all my requirements without the need to tailor it

Always thoughtful, quality content. Like you, COS and the like don't do anything for me. Do you have a ravelry page for your knitting projects? If so, how do you feel about sharing that here? I would like to look up which sweater you're knitting since we suit the same silhouette. Thanks.

Button down cotton shirts don’t look good on me too. Silk seems to work better

It's quite rare to find someone who doesn't like button down shirt on the internet, since everybody seems to agree that it is a must-have item. I feel terrible on it because I have a shorter neck, I look like Ben Affleck Batman for most of the time, if you know what I mean 😅
@Eastlikesolace
@Eastlikesolace 4 сағат бұрын
@@artesiarastania5998 couldn’t agree more. Especially if it’s long sleeved. I feel like the stiffness and lack of curve allowance of shirt dresses is A) particularly unflattering on my more curvy shape and B) really overwhelming my petite frame. Silk and chiffon shirt dresses are better but overall I’ll opt for a baby doll or fit and flare dress every time
@artesiarastania5998
@artesiarastania5998 4 сағат бұрын
@@Eastlikesolace I also found that short sleeved shirts work so much better. Unfortunately, wearing a shirt is a socially agreed upon for formal and office setting. I keep one or two for the same reason. Corporate life. But yeah, I could imagine it would be worse on the petite frame because it looks frumpy, like playing dress up with your dad's clothes.

Choose a palette and stick with it. My philosophy is I should be able to pull out clothing and get dressed in the dark, and still be coordinated. I choose a new palette every decade. I used to look great in black, but those days are long gone!

Always ace, concise advice! Thanks! All of it works perfectly for me, especially "1 or less than 3 key features/details in one piece" and "duplicates/decision fatigue". Those concepts have been a focus for me recently as well - in part due to your previous vids. I love higher contrast on myself and have avoided beige tones on top for ages - sometimes wear as bottoms. Jewelry (especially unique, personal, quality pieces that can be stacked) is a fave. *^_^*/

I love layering fine silver & gold chains with vintage charms. Mixing metals is very versatile. I also have simple everyday drop earrings and one ring with 2 charms. I'm not wearing any bangles/bracelets for the foreseeable, they get caught in everything and draw attention to my wrinkly hands.

What do you do if a piece from your wish list sells out before you decide whether you want it or not, or if you decide to purchase it and it turns out to be sold out? Is it a 'well, this means I'm not getting it after all' or are you regretting not making up your mind earlier? And do you apply the wish list method to shopping in 2nd hand stores/sites where you can only get the piece now or hope it's for sale again some day?
