I think variety can be someone's savior or downfall depending on their personal style. As someone who tends to stick to the same small range of silhouettes, colors, and textures without getting bored, any attempt to add variety for variety's sake tends to result in me wasting money.

You make a lot of great points here. The one important point you mentioned but didn't flesh out is the cost per wear question. I now spend more money on items I wear regularly and less on those I only wear for special occasions. For example, the brown leather crossbody bag use regularly is down to pennies cost per wear whereas the fancy clutch I bought to use at weddings and other formal occasions is still over $25 cost per wear.
