Luminaries of Bengal Series: Their contribution to building modern Bharat. Organized by SangamTalks & Bangla Abar
Bengal became the center of action after the demise of the Mughal dynasty in Delhi and the Sultanate in Bengal after the arrival of the Europeans, especially the British.
Bengal became the birthplace of many great luminaries whose contributions are immense in getting independence from Britain and in Bharat's spiritual, cultural, and scientific development and progress.
This webinar series sheds light on these luminaries from a modern perspective by scholars and experts from around the world.
The first episode of this webinar series is dedicated to Rajarshi Ram Mohan Roy is Bharat's most forgotten and misunderstood great luminary.

Really!! Had there not been Raja, who would have saved you from being converted to Christianity.. English as a language and culture had been the private asset of Missionaries altogether.. Now, if you prefer to be a Christian to learn English it's your choice but I am indebted to Roy for rendering me an opportunity to learn, read and write English while retaining my own Dharma

And also for those who say,he was not against sanskrit and teaching of darshanas,because he established vedanta college there 2 doubts which i need clarified. 1.where is it's current location,we have the erstwhile hindu college(presidency) and sanskrit college too so kindly provide the location of that institution. 2.by name it is clear that he is going to teach possibly vedanta,but will it be a traditional toll way ? Given his outlook,many so called scholars ? also came out of brahmo samaj who used to write works on vedanta so called,which were just repeating the same points which he had said in his translations and digests( eg.chandrashekhar basu,debendranath tagore etc.)when one reads their work it is very clear that they don't know(as they themselves say)traditional concepts of nyaya,vedanta.So how is this even a valid point,to prove that no he was not against traditional learning when his own successors( an exception sitanath dutta)have been non traditionalists.

How and why the hell is this RRR guy being featured on Sangam Talks? - Meenakshi Jain has already debunked the Sati myth. RRR generalised the practice being done by his own sect to all Hindus, shaming Hindusism. That stigma is yet to be erased. - RRR propagated Brahmo Samaj as a total new religion. In the 1893 World parliament of Religions, the Brahmos declared themselves as separate from Hinduism. - The Brahmo Samaj created havoc in Punjab when Brahmo Bongs moved in after the British annexation of Punjab; this directly led to Punjabi Hindus embracing Arya Samaj as a counter and is responsible for the Hindu-Sikh split that is the direct precursor to Khalistani demands - RRR worked for William Carey, a British baptist who sole purpose in India was conversion - RRR was a supporter of the British colonial project in India - RRR campaigned against Sanskrit education in India and wanted to impose English The list goes on and on.

If Bengalis are really proud of their contribution, the grave of Ram Mohan Roy should be exhumed and cremated on the banks of the Ganga. It is easy to keep on talking incessantly, but doing anything in practical life requires courage. It is really a shame that North Western regions like Punjab and Rajasthan faced waves after waves of invasions but still have their culture by and large intact, while Bengalis were so easily captured by the Turks and the British, as if ready to embrace any idiot. How exactly did East Bengal became Muslim majority when Turkic attacks actually happened from the North West?
@MrAnimitra

That means you're a mere Joe public daring to speak on Bengal without knowing a tint of the region.. Neither you know of Islamist proselytization here nor of the defiance against it. For you in particular, the devastating riot at Jamalpur, Mymensingh (now in Bangladesh) in 1907 had brought "Anushilan Samiti" to public sphere in 1907..and that was the legacy of a millennium-old struggle.. Now, why East Bengal in spite of spite of having several Hindu-majority areas went to Pakistan.. It's due to betrayal of (then) Delhi leadership. Now, go through documents of partition of India in 1947 and educate all... including you and other ignorant souls..

Then how come Rajasthan, UP, Bihar never became Muslim majority but Bengal in the far Eastern corner was a Muslim majority by 1947? And how come Firangis lived in Calcutta for so long (till 1911), even 10,000 Bengalis with just swords could have finished them off.
