These little difference actually shows us that the twins have different personality and habits. for example, Lumine moves much more gracefully and soft while Aether has strong and big movements. not only that, Aether seems to be much more expressive? Lumine seems like she is calmer than Aether. I guess it's not wrong to say Lumine is the moon while Aether is the sun. ofc this is just what I noticed haha, don't need to take it so seriously. Edit : Since many people keep misunderstanding my comment, I will make myself clear that this refers to the old belief from the fandom that the twins are the same person with same personality. Many believed this because the traveler doesn't show much expression and this video was released before the "we will be reunited" quest so we didn't really know much about them at that point. but I'm glad that many people now can realize that they are two separate person with their own personality and habits. i hope you keep loving them as their own character, have a good day!

I think something interesting is their personalities and how their body language reflects it, at 20:30 (meeting xiao) Aether’s body language reflects being confused or perplexed on why no one is there. Lumine’s body language on the hold tells us that she is an analytical thinker. She processes the situation and then is analyzing it (likely going “why wouldn’t he be up here” “this is strange) and trying to figure out where Xiao is, as we can see with her hand in her chin. Then in Tartaglia’s fight scene at 22:44 Aether is seen swiping his mouth, this can be a sign of being unsure, taking a moment to recollect himself. While Lumine is standing ready to fight again, a sign of confidence in her fighting abilities. Seconds later at 22:47 we see the twin’s reaction to Tartaglia trying to steal the Gnoses, Aether looks angry, possibly realizing he has been tricked. While Lumine looks puzzled as to why Childe is not in the spot where she “beat” him. This can be tied to the fact that Lumine is the offensive twin while Aether plays defense. Lumine is likely less used to being tricked as she has Aether to look out for her blind spots. Aether on the hand seems to easily read when tricks are played as he is the defensive twin who usually covers for Lumine. More evidence of this theory is shown at 23:05 where Aether already has is hands up to brace for impact whereas Lumine takes longer to put her hands up and open her eyes since she is not used to playing defense. This is the exact opposite of the previous scene where we see Lumine being confident in her actions and Aether not being as confident. At 23:28 we see Lumine getting ready to fight again (her hand not fully placed on the ground) and Aether grounding himself. This shows that Lumine is ready to fight and Aether is ready to defend. At 23:41 Aether’s knees are firm in their stance to lessen the chance of falling, Lumine’s knees buckle. Osial’s scene is essentially mirrors of each other with subtle differences I have already pointed out. Beisht’s scene (Osial’s wife) has a small difference at 29:45, Lumine has a slight skip in her step, drawing back to her analytical, curious nature. At 29:53 we hear Lumine going “hm?” and Aether going “ngh/ugh” again, this has to do with Lumine being inquisitive and Aether being grounded/ on edge. At 34:36, we some growth from the two of them. Lumine looks over at Dainsleif or make sure he is okay but Aether has his focus on the opponent. At 34:49 the abyss twin’s have different expressions. Aether appears angry and Lumine appears aloof/distant. After analyzing 34:56 the (main player) twins seem to have the same expression, initially it appears different but if you inspect it they both appear worried/shocked. The reason for the “different” looking expressions is that the start of Lumine’s eyebrows are covered by her fringe/bangs. At 35:02 when the abyss twin(s) say “though you need not rush bother/sister. I have more than enough time to wait for you,” abyssal Lumine looks sure/secure, abyssal Aether looks determined. This difference here is that Lumine’s body language essentially says “I know we have enough time” whereas Aether’s body language says “I’ll make sure we have enough time”. This is a stark contrast to the beginning of the game where protagonist Lumine looks determined and protagonist Aether looks secure. At 35:05, both Lumine and Aether have the same reaction to seeing their sibling. This makes sense as the shock and disbelief of seeing their sibling is abrupt and makes intense feelings such as happiness, doubt, shock, confusion, and betrayal (due to the abyssal twin’s words). You can actually see this in detective interviews with a criminal where the detective will lead the suspected criminal into a sense of security and then once the criminal feels safe and believes they will get away with the crime, the detective takes away the security and confidence of the criminal by notifying them of evidence against the criminal. Thus the criminal is left dumbfounded because of all the emotions and thoughts that come very abruptly. At 35:13 Abyssal Lumine takes longer to turn around, likely because they don’t want to leave Aether or, because she is reminiscing on their past together. Abyssal Aether turns away more fast, reinforcing that he is determined. (End of We Will be Reunited quest) At 36:25 Aether is taking in Ritou all at once, looking around rather quickly. Lumine is taking in Ritou slowly, calling back to her analytical/inquisitive nature. At 40:44 the twins have different sitting positions, Lumine has a more dainty postion and Aether has a more gruff position. At 41:36 Lumine has a hand over her chest while Aether does not. These are both signs of shock but I thought it was interesting to point out because this causes Lumine to appear more taken aback. Lumine also brings the vision to her chest after grabbing it, almost as if she is saying “I challenge you to a fight” and Aether’s body language gives off the impression that he is ready to fight. I believe this adds to the offense, defense theory. 45:47 their movements and poses are different from each other but this does not mean much since both or reasonable reactions to try to fight off the purple fog. Past this point in the video they have the same animations other than Lumine occasionally bringing her hand to her chest or tucking her hair.

This is pretty good, but I think you might have overlooked one thing. The reason some Lumine's movements are slower/more dainty is likely because they wanted to make the girl twin look more graceful and feminine. It's not a big deal, but it's still a relevant detail to keep in mind.

I think it's interesting at first in the beginning it shows how Lumine is less observant and looks directly at the people/enemy (offense) while Aether scans his surroundings and makes note of the doing of the people/enemy (defense) I think they're both use to playing the same role, it becomes difficult to do both because they're so use to relying on eachother

Also when they turn his head he’s more likely to turn his whole body while Lumine just turns her head. Pretty sure where one twin falls short the other twin is there to pick them up lol.

It is hinted that Lumine is a little bit physically stronger than Aether, as he has the tendency to use two hands instead of one on some of his animations. Lumine also have slightly stronger charged attacks. While they both wear feathers in their hair, Lumine wears flowers that resemble the ones we see in Travail. Lumine’s outfit is also leagues less practical than Aethers, if not because of the heels alone.

It still amazes me how similar the twins are yet how a single reaction, like when they reunited, can show you just how different they are. Lumine is the moon, the cold twin, and Aether is the sun, the loving twin, when they reunited Aether was sad whilst Lumine was determined. It will always be this way it doesn't matter which twin has taken the role of the abyss ruler, Lumine shall stay cold and determined as Aether will stay emotionally driven and warm.

@Malakoi True, it’s infuriating how people like to destroy and mischaracterise. Special mention to Xiao, Diluc, and especially Venti. In terms of the twins, it looks like they really want to push the Lumine cold and ruthless, Aether, innocent cinamon roll agenda so god damn much. Lumine’s name in all languages means light/star, whereas Aether is sky. It’s pretty much confirmed that while fighting together, Lumine took the offencive, and Aether pretty much made sure she didn’t get them killed in the process. Just like stars shine (Lumine) on the sky (Aether). In their expressions in-game, and even emotes, it seems like, ironically what people say, Lumine seems to be more expressive, and Aether is the quiet one, would risk the word lazy. One of the best things to be added to the game (because at this point it’s obvious the twins aren’t self-inserts), would be if they had different dialogues, expanding their personalities (but the lack we experience now could be because there is a high chance that the traveler twin lost their memories after being put to the slumber). If HoYo wants the story to reach the same point in the end, they could do it the way Lumine and Aether reach the same point eith different reasoning/dialogues/conclusions. Really wish that happens in the future

Yeah I get why people would come to the conclusion that Lumine makes the better abyssal twin, based upon her facial expressions and her abyss voice lines nailing the villain vibe, but I love Lumine as the protagonist so much. During my early days in Genshin I originally chose Aether, but eventually I started a whole new account just to get Lumine instead. Also I like the idea of Lumine as the younger sister (they refer to her as this in the CN and JP dubs apparently) on a journey to try to 'save' her older brother more compelling since we see the older brother saving his younger sister all the time.

I headcanon that despite using the sword with her right hand, lumine is actually left handed (or ambidextrous). Beacuse in her every cutscene that is different from aethers, she prioritizes her left hand. She waves with her left hand, looks left first, and in all her elemental skill animations (+her electro burst) she uses her left hand (as opposed to aether always using his right for everything).

Aether fits the style of the abyss prince while Lumine kinda fits the personality, In Thoma's hangout in one of the endings, Lumine looks determined while Aether looks confused or a bit frustrated. But then Aether has dark clothing fitting the atmosphere of the abyss, and Lumine has more lighter clothing which doesn't really fit. So if I had to choose who I more fit as the protagonist I will pick lumine, why? It's because I love the concept of a younger sibling trying and fighting to reunite with their older sibling, she also seems really calm in cutscenes which fits a swordsman in my opinion. In the Royal of Abyss cutscenes, Aether seems more evil-ish type judging by his expression, making him a fit for the antagonist. But at the same time, they have traits making them fit the opposite role. Aether and Lumine are fit for both roles.

Since the beginning, the twins are only affectionate towards each other but that's normal considering they've been all by themselves all this time before that god show up. Aether tends to move first when there's no dangers nearby while Lumine is calm and tends to thinks a lot by her own before making a move. It would be interesting to see her open up to other people as the story went on if we have her as protagonist. Aether is your stereotypical protagonist but if you watch closer , he is much more colder than Lumine as an antagonist. His character changes hugely depends on the situation while Lumine is not. Because she's good at hiding her emotions from others since the beginning. Don't be fooled by Abyss prince's affectionate eyes towards his sister. It's because she is the only one he care about. I’ve always thought of Lumine as the more curious twin while Aether is the one that keeps them out of trouble. He’s easier to talk to while Lumine is more shy. Lumine is more reckless because she’s used to Aether being on the defense. Lumine is more emotional, while Aether is more emotionally mature. Lumine is more naive while Aether is used to reading cues. I’ve honestly never considered they’re the “someone will die… of fun!” twin; rather “Let’s have fun! (Lumine)” “But not too much fun! (Aether)” twin. I’ve also believed that their abyss personalities are made to alarm the other twin. Lumine being cold and calculating would alarm Aether because he’s not used to her not being her carefree and curious self; and would probably make him feel sad because he knows she must have been an emotional wreck at some point to reach this conclusion. Aether being more hardened and angry than his usual soft smiles and laughter would alarm Lumine, she’s probably not used to seeing him with a look so full of negative emotion espescially when he accused her with Dain.

That's one of the hints that she's really the main Antagonist/Abyss Royalty. The theory says that Lumine, as the antagonist, already knows all the gods and goddesses from her travels, so her asking the Sustainer, "Who are you?" means that she genuinely do not know her. It's just a theory here on youtube. We just don't know yet whether or not Lumine traveled Teyvat before they met the Sustainer, or after. We just know that Lumine was awoke the whole time Khaenriah was being destroyed, while Aether only has tiny memories of it after being awoken by Lumine to move on to the next world.

In Kazuha Cutscene, we see that for Lumine its not storming yet but for Aether it is. During the quest before we go to Inazuma, they said the heavy rain and thundering happens during the middle of your travelers to Inazuma because of the seal Ei made. When you try swimming to Inazuma (or when we got Kokomi and using the walk on water glitch), we see that storm happens when you are kind of close to Inauma but get teleported back. I wonder why Aether gets the rain but Lumine doesn’t, sometimes both travelers have to experience some bad weather on the way yk? Especially when the dialogues (where we just need to choose one to proceed) do give you a chance to follow your own headcanon of the twin’s personality. Like you could easily portray Traveller Aether to be the cold twin instead of what ppl believe him to be as the puppy twin. Or make your Traveller Lumine be the puppy twin instead of the classy twin. As a lumine user. see aether more as the protagonist, maybe because he is originally based of lore but also, lumine's English VA is so good at playing the bad guy. For lumine, she fits both equally perfect, her as the protagonist looks worried and just realistic, very emotional. As the antagonist, she looks very serious, sassy, it also gives that feeling of scary and someone who wouldn't mess with. Aether in the other hand, him as the protagonist is as expected, good and I didn't choose him so I couldn't give full detail but I can say from the videos he is good at being the good guy. As for the antagonist, he looks and sounds more emotional. He also gives me the feeling of that misunderstood character and that all he wants if for the best though it looks bad. One thing I noticed is that the twins speech pattern is also slightly different. In the prologue, Lumine says, "whilst, we used to cross world after world" which is more fit for storytelling while Aether says, "we used to travel from world to world" which is better fitted in more casual talk. Another thing I noticed is that Lumine widens her eyebrows go up or stays still when she's shocked or surprised while Aether always furrows his eyebrows when he's shocked or surprised. In the Raiden Shogun Cutscene where she appears behind the traveler, Lumine seems like she doesn't know what's going on before turning while Aether has his eyebrows furrowed like he's sensing something's going on then turns around. This makes me think that Aether is more alert than Lumine which is probably his brother instinct to protect his younger sister. One final thing, Lumine has more closed movements while Aether has more wide movements, when falling in the Tartaglia fight, Lumine has her body very tight and closed, while Aether is straight up doing a star fish impersonation.

What I've noticed is aether is more expensive with his emotions while lumine is less as the abyss sibling lumine sounds cold but not that intemidating while aether sounds kind but more intimidating Lumine is abit stronger than aether but aether is more observant than lumine is they have alot of differences say like aether grunts but has few words while lumine has more words and hardly grunts I guess that's it

Looking back at the story so far... it has changed a lot since the game was released close to two years ago. Mainly the uniforms on some of the characters like Jean, Amber, Rosaria, and Mona. Other than that... well... I'm still AR 35 just grinding to 350k or 340,250 EXP. It's a long process and still trying to level up my characters to Lvl. 70... So yeah... so much has happen these two years

2 yrs later comment: one thing I noticed is that Paimon has separation anxiety. And based off Lumine’s tone in the beginning cutscenes, I bet she has separation anxiety too. This could explain why she uses offense instead of defense, willing to get her brother back and charging straight forward.

I think it does hint at their experiences, who really has more knowledge of this field. It looks like Lumine has also seen everything before which is why she seems so confident in contrast to most situations. It's predictable and she holds herself to a high standard. Aether has the appearence of still figuring things out like it really is his first time. This is my personal perspective.
