GH6 looks impressive. However I had made the decision to move to full frame a year ago with the S5. Not compelling enough to move back to MFT, but clearly validates the platform and extends the life of the MFT platform.

Same, there are a few things inherit in the ff format that matter to me. Lets's just say that for stills i'd rather use a 5d mk1 than any mft camera.
@artistjoh2 жыл бұрын
@@fredriksvard2603 As a Canon shooter in process of going MFT, I have to admit that your 5D M1 and my 1Dx cannot match the lower noise levels of the GH6 at 12800 ISO. I have the G9, but looking at buying the GH6. The G9 can get sharp photographs at night that my 1Dx cannot get, and the GH6 is even better. Good stabilization knocks the socks off those older Canon cameras. The Gh6 is an incredible camera.
@fredriksvard26032 жыл бұрын
@@artistjoh Yes it looks good. If it was cheaper i'd go for it, and if the gh5ii had the low light quality of the gh6 i'd go for that. I love the small mft primes, especially the close focusing distance (42.5mm 1,7 30cm or so) and i strongly dislike the 0,5-0,9m focusing distances of most full frame equivalents (50-85mm). So if i could use them and get good stills and good low light video, that would be ideal. There's more to it than noise levels though, i still haven't seen an mft camera that renders full frame obsolete for stills in low light. Stabilization has nothing to do with outright iq, and there's also the matter of subject movement blur. 5d, i'm not saying it can't be improved but the images have that magical "pro" feel and there's a reason people kept using it (the mk2 at least) as a super cheap option used long after it was discontinued.
@artistjoh2 жыл бұрын
@@fredriksvard2603 If the MFT camera has flaws, but still gets a sharp picture at night hand held with over a one second exposure, and my Sony, at the same location and time, and exposure just produces streaks, it doesn't matter how good its image quality is, it doesn't matter how much less noise it has. I have tested this quite a bit, and my G9 gets usable hand held photographs at night where no Sony camera is able to get a usable photograph without using a tripod.
@fredriksvard26032 жыл бұрын
@@artistjoh That's your use case, for others it could be that they just don't take those shots at all, ie tripod or nothing, or they use gimbals. It's a bit of a consumer mindset to "need" both function and convenience (small + ibis etc, get the shot at expense of quality) and consumers don't "need" to get the shot the way pros do. On the other hand, consumers can be less fussy with absolute image quality. There are other brands than sony too, fuji and pana have good ibis.

Great music choice! GH6 looks very good but I think the S5 low light photos looked way better than the GH6 and whilst I'm sure the GH6 has better AF (smaller sensor, newer camera) I think in this test it was just faster. I'm planning to buy my first proper camera at the end of the year. I've been debating between getting the GH6 or an a7s3, but honestly, I've been leaning towards the GH6 for a while and your low light section really helped consolidate that. It doesn't need to 'be the best' at everything a full frame would, it just needs to hold its own. and it does that bloody well. The only reason I'd consider changing my mind now is if they announced a successor to the S1H which has all of the functionality of the GH6 (which is a major selling point and is very unlikely). Great video, I think I'll finally cave in and hit that subscribe button haha xD (also 1000th like. yeet)

(The GH6 is about 2.6, and the 1.7 aperture zoom lens combo are about 2.4 each). An S5 costs less than 2 million (absolute bloody bargain) and I could buy only 1 lens. The Panasonic S pro 24 - 70 f2.8. Costs about 2.5 million. Total cost 4.5. A panasonic S1H costs about 4.5 - 6 million. Lets assume a new camera is around the same figure. Trade in the S5, and you can probably knock a million off. Total cost of the full frame system including the upgrade is now 8 million. Thats only a 500,000 ($500 or so) difference in the end. So assuming both systems including are a compable price (because with the GH6 I'd buy 2 lenses instead of 1) wouldn't you then encourage me to go for the full frame system?

Hello, I would like to ask your opinion since you have tried both the Gh6 and the S5. I have a Lumix G80 and was considering swapping it for one of these two machines to improve the quality. I am a freelance graphic designer and every now and then it happens that some client asks me to take photos to insert them in website flyers or for an event. I also like making videos, in fact I opened my own channel on youtube. Soon I will finally have my honeymoon which will be divided into two parts; in a few weeks in the Caribbean and in August in California. A friend of mine asked me to take pictures of her at her uncle's civil wedding which will be in 2 weeks and I said yes ... 😅 HELP !!!! Which camera do I choose? I don't know whether to stay with the M43 and take the GH6 because I already have a nice set of lenses (12-60mm lumix, 25mm 1.2 olympus, 45mm 1.8 olympus, 75mm 1.8 olympus) or buy a full frame of which I don't have lenses to mount and I should buy at least a 50mm or 85mm 1.8 to take portraits at a wedding. For me, lightness is also essential for traveling and vlogging. Can you give me an advice? Sorry my english i translated with google translator.
@MicroFourNerds2 жыл бұрын
Hi! If you have already invested the lenses I’d say stay with your g80 - it’s a brilliant camera for photo and video 😁 if you were to upgrade you could possibly sell all m43 gear and invest in the s5, but it would be easier to upgrade to the gh6 eventually. But your existing camera is brilliant I think you’ll do great with what you have 😁
@Patty_BeGood2 жыл бұрын
@@MicroFourNerds Hi, thank you for answer. The G80 is good but not enough. I can take good photos up to 1600 iso after the noise gets heavy. Other than that it worries me that there is no double memory slot. To take pictures at a wedding it would be best to have it in case something goes wrong. I will be paid for this photo shoot and I would not go wrong. Both the Gh6 and the S5 I saw in your video that they play well with high ISOs. For burst shooting in good lighting conditions is Gh6 or S5 better? If I took Gh6 I could use the lenses I have now but I would always have a small bokeh and I have seen that to use the double memory slot the Gh6 uses a memory card which costs a lot. For the S5 here in Switzerland there is a cash back so I would pay the 20-60 lens kit much less than the Gh6 body. I hate to decide! 😅

I am looking for a good reason to buy a GH6 to replace my Sony gear (that company seems to really drop the ball on their cameras, giving up on firmware, etc.) Could you help me out finding a reason? Looking to possibly get back into MFT because it seems so great for travel and run and gun.
@MicroFourNerds2 жыл бұрын
That’s my exact setup for paid work - s5 and gh6 as a combo. All my bases are covered with those cameras combined! And they match perfectly in terms of colour and quality. More video-centric project? I lean on gh6 more for better slow mo, better ibis, fits on my gimbal better, etc More photo-centric project? I lean on my S5 for shallower depth of field and low light stuff. although the gh6 is a great photo camera too and performs great in low light. They even share the same batteries. So handy!
@Alexrocks12532 жыл бұрын
@@MicroFourNerds That sounds nice! The video low light on the GH6 honestly doesn't look half bad either so for more mobile projects it seems to be an amazing camera. For more locked off set type shoots (and pretty low light), the S5 will shine with its primes. With the GH6 I could actually potentially run and gun for real (as in full sprint to catch up with action). If I did documentaries, I would definitely pick up the GH6 more than the S5 but I have a feeling I will use them equally, with the right tool for the job. Moved out of MFT a few weeks ago. Ended up disappointed with lack of innovation. I also think the system is doomed since the death of Olympus and Panasonic opening up to full frame. Who knows, but id rather not be the one holding the bag (equipment) in the end. The S5 is one of my top candidates for my next camera. Either that or the the Nikon Z6 ii.

Did you decide on which camera you want? I have a Nikon Z7ii and I love it for photos. I wanted to find a camera for video and was tempted to get the Z6ii cause of all the Z glass I own. For hybrid use the S5. The AF continuous test looks like the S5 was shot at default, not optimal speed and sensitivity for the tennis ball. Nonetheless, the GH6 is a video beast.
@MicroFourNerds2 жыл бұрын
I had it set to Set 4 “suggested for situations where the speed of the subject changes significantly”, which is +1 for af area switching sensitivity. I usually leave it in Set 1 for my own uses, so there was an effort at least to tailor the af to the situation. I have my video af set to High. But as I say in the video, this definitely isn’t a strength of the s5 I think it was always going to struggle with the faster moving tracking 😊 I think it more than makes up for it with low light performance. I think the s5 colours looked the best in low light.

To be fair, I think the objects were very close to camera. During this test (I only had the GH6 for 2 weeks at this time, I’ve bought one since) the Uk was hit by a really bad storm and forced me to “get creative” with indoor alternatives for most of these comparisons.
