The S5 also shoots open gate. It's the 6k photo mode, and yes, you can use V-log with it 😊 it does have limited FPS options.

I definitely prefer the color science of the original S5. And as what I do to the 99.9% is the landscape photography the choice is obvious in my case!… But I’m looking forward for the S5 mark III which hopefully will overperform the S5 in picture quality!

I can definately see a difference between the colour science of each - but I don't have a preference haha. I often use both cameras at the same time, and about 50% of the time, I prefer the S5's image, and the other 50% I prefer the Mk II's image haha

What will blow your mind is that with S5 you get with ninja V 6K opengate propress RAW. A gimbal with lidar AF. At the price of S5II.... And with proress RAW S5 has better high light roll off, better colors out of the box, sharper image cos no low pass filter. There are a lot of plusses with S5.

Absolutely true - however much more setup. Sometimes you might want the AF for a lightweight setup, and suddenly the gimbal, electronic follow focus, lidar combo ain't gonna work. I strongly considered it before upgrading to the ii.

I want to film concerts, mostly in low-light conditions. Additionally, I might also create cooking videos and drum videosin a studio. I found the Lumix S5 (Mark I) with the 20-60mm lens for €800, while the S5 Mark II with the same lens costs €1,400. Since I’m just starting out with filming, I’m wondering-is the extra €600 really worth it? After all, it’s almost double the price.

If you want to film concerts in Low Light, the 20-60mm is not the lens to do it. It's a good lens, but for concerts you'll usually be shooting with it around the 60mm mark - which has an aperture of 5.6 (So you ain't gonna see shit lol) S5 is great for starting out, but getting the right lens is more important for your applications

@ ok thanks, which lens should I get for that, which isn’t that expensive.
@jackcpmadden4 күн бұрын
@ A lens that's good for that and inexpensive would be lovely - but unfortunately isn't often the case. The best bet for getting started would be a prime lens. They have a low aperture (But you cant zoom in or out. You're stuck with one focal length). Lumix has a series of prime lenses for the S series cameras that are all great. And they cost about 1/3 of the price of a comparable zoom lens. That's where I started. Otherwise, older, off-brand, or vintage lenses are great and often cheap. But they're manual. So no autofocus, etc.

I really feel like you exaggerate on the AF. Especially @1:15. The AF is more than usable if you know what you're doing with it and use it to it's strengths. Try using the focus locker on the joystick, play around with the settings and you'll be fine. Have been using the S5 for 5 years now and the AF never was a dealbreaker in any kind of video I made. Sure, the phase detect autofocus on the s5ii is better and more reliable. But to put it like you did with the 'iT DoEsnT ReAlLy MatTeR iF YoUr ShoT LoOks LiKe tHiS', seems unfair.

It sucks the II and the IIx devour the S5 in auto focus. The point is why screw with it when they have fixed it in the new ones? This is why you can get the OG S5 for $700-$800 bucks and why Panasonic doesn't even acknowledge this pre S5II cameras anymore...

That part is moreso to prove a point that the Autofocus Is a big weakness. And in my opinion outweighs the benefits of picture quality. I've had instances where the S5 has performed just as I demonstrated and has completely lost focus of the subject. So I'm replicating that. The fair test of the S5's autofocus is later in the video.

@ yes I agree there are times when it’s ok but there are also time where it acts just like Jack showed. Again that’s why you can buy one for dirt cheap and why lumix no longer supports them!
