This would also be especially useful for when we get sick and need more insulin. When I got covid, I needed to bolus every 2 hours, 24/7, for about a week.

I appreciate the idea of simple! As an older adult with TD 1 I really don't want a complex pump. The fatigue comes from the complex stuff. Keep up the good work

The omnipod pump which lasts for 3 days is not complicated at all.

Did I miss the discussion about how it actually works? Like what is the target? Which CGM does it work with? How often does it give you corrections?

I’m going to ask all about this when the pump is cleared and coming out.
@eastonguy622 ай бұрын
When I go on MDI, I use my insulin pump with a specific setting to control my blood sugar at night so I take advantage of having an automated delivery system. It allows me to take my pump off in the morning and then I put it back on at night, so I don’t feel obligated to wear the pump all day long. This device would be perfect to help deal with the dawn phenomenon but I guess we have to find out exactly how it works first.

For us as parents of a child with t1d, this would be great. We have great control with mdi and if we get to have this only for night, it’s really a game changer.

I would totally consider Luna. Diagnosed with T1.5D 2 years ago and have been MDI ever since. This would be great for me as I seem to go high after dinner more than other meals of the day. Would allow me to go to be slightly earlier rather than waiting up to attend to the highs.

This is a game-changer for people who do well with MDI and just need a little zhujj overnight. Pumps are amazing but overwhelming on several levels. Agree with John that not all of us want to be computer scientists. Let the devices do that for us.

@@lunadiabetes Thank you for your work on this. Grateful for the work of John S and the many others behind this product. So inspired by the commitment and innovation of others living with T1D. VERY EXCITED about this product.

Really looking forward to this as a nearly 50 years insulin by pen user. I’ve resisted a pump, considered a patch but ultimately remain happy with daytime pen delivery. My problem however is remaining in range overnight and waking constantly to check and deliver insulin. This appears to be my solution. I’m in UK and my kit is NHS funded

I love the idea of an OmniPod-like device that uses just a needle... or a Dexcom that doesn't need an applicator. Just push it on. An OmniPod would be so much smaller without the cannula mechanism. I'm hoping that in the next few years we'll see these innovations more and more. I'm also hoping that in the next few years we still have a semi-functioning health care system.

I have a fear of needles and taking injections is crazy stressful. I would love to back on the pump but if cheap enough would love to try it i am a uncontrollable type 1. Since mdi I'm back to an a1c of 10 the pump got me down to an a1c 8.

Apart from parents... I still don't see how this improves over a well adjusted basal... if you're going low during the night, you've either over done it for supper, or your basal needs adjusting... what am I missing?
@dwightl58632 ай бұрын
Mentioned they were concentrating their efforts on not waking up with high glucose numbers (hyperglycemia) in the morning.
@johnsjolund2 ай бұрын
If you have a well-adjusted basal - then Luna isn't for you. However, on average, a person with T1D spends 40% of each night above 180mg/dl and 4% below 70 mg/dl. Luna is for those of us who could benefit from some additional support while they sleep.
@ForceFreeTrainergirl062 ай бұрын
So, if the company can make a tubeless pump for just overnight why can't they make one like the Omnipod and it be usable for 3 days or longer? It's the same technology surely? Its even the same shape as Omnipod. This is very weird.
@dwightl58632 ай бұрын
Maximum capacity is 10 units. To go 3 days it would need to be considerably larger. Also mentioned only a 2 day wear time before the battery runs out.
@johnsjolund2 ай бұрын
Luna is for people who want flexibility to choose when to wear it - when to get the extra support since you use it at night, and only those nights when you need it. If you are willing to wear a traditional insulin pump 24/7, there are great options already. Luna is for the ~65% of T1D in the US that do not wear a pump.
@alexandermilligan9782 ай бұрын
How does this prevent night time lows if your still injecting 24 hour basal insulin also? Surely a 12 hour daytime injected basal insulin then this luna device for night time basal makes more sense...or am i missing something?Spliting basal insulin morning and night prevents nightime highs.
@lunadiabetes2 ай бұрын
Hi Alex, Luna isn' t intended to replace basal insulin. What it is intended to do, once cleared, is to reduce hyperglycemia (which is on average 40% of the night) without causing more hypo. It delivers extra rapid-acting insulin, to reduce highs if/when needed.

I sleep next to a T1D… way better in range and no alarms? Game changer! …like all this tech, the only downsides is time to market.
@Mis-kn3fi2 ай бұрын
As a type 1, I don’t really see a use for this….if there is it’s very limited. 1-10 units? And only overnight? Seems like another headache and cost to deal with along with MDI, and CGM.
@AlystyrXАй бұрын
Did you watch the video? Most diabetics use MDI, not pumps; 83% of the benefit of a pump is in overnight control. You only need 1-2 units on average for bringing a high into range when you take into account basal insulin. This is a device that gives MDI users more control over their overnight levels, since they aren't awake to manage them.

It’s a really smart idea! I am on mdi and can’t use a pump because of scar tissue. Funnily padding the injected basal insulin is something I do during the day: I inject Tresiba for the night (where I require less basal) and pad the day with the semi-long acting Levemir. Sad to see Novo discontinuing it btw… If Luna needs help testing it or any other IT/development related things here in Europe (Germany), please reach out

i really want this bu i use more then 10 units for long acting so this would not work
@lunadiabetesАй бұрын
Hi Shelly - this works in addition to long acting insulin. The average person with T1D will need 1.6 units per night, so 10 units should cover the additional overnight need for insulin you may have.

Why can’t my pump better regulate
@dwightl58632 ай бұрын
My personal opinion: If the human body were a machine the pump could regulate it perfectly. But being human there are a bunch of factors that play with glucose levels.
