it is never too late to start. i started ballet last year (15) and it was hard because I was the oldest in the class and I recently came out of a broken ankle injury. it was extremely hard to make friends because all the girls my age have been dancing together since they were younger. i was also told I was overweight for the first studio I went to. so i changed studios and i have never been happier. I'm in the right classes for my skill level and everyone I've met there have been so kind. you just need to find the right studio! it is never too late to start something you love!

I started ballet when I had just turned 14, and I’m 15 now. It honestly was the best decision I’ve ever made. It does take lots of practice to be good. don’t be jealous of the other students, keep in mind that they have been doing this longer than you, so they will be more flexible and graceful. I practice a lot and I am very close to my splits. Keep your head up, and remember that when you stretch, it’ll hurt, but that’s good. Don’t push yourself too far, listen to your body! Good luck

I danced ballet for 7 years, did point for 4 and one day i just got fed up with it. The perfectionist mindset was toxic to me to the point where i was solely doing ballet for my teachers approval and that seeped into all aspects of my life. I constantly felt like my body was being run through a CT scan, every improper alignment on display for everyone to critique. I took a break and noticed this distructive mindset but also taking a break made me realize how much i miss it and why i loved it in the first place. I gained so many amazing qualities from ballet like discipline, work ethic, drive to always do my best, grace, etc. with the pandemic going on i haven’t been able to return but i have grown to realize what i loved about ballet from my time off after putting away the perfectionist mindset that blocked my relationship with ballet

I’ve been so invested in ballet classes lately (even if they’re at home ahaha) and honestly you’re one of my motivations! I started ballet at 8 and stopped at 9 and then restarted at 13 (September 2019) and now I’m 14 (since December) and honestly If you’re motivated and do you’re best in lessons everything will become so much easier :) Here are some tips that help me: -Learn your exercises: know them by heart. I’m sure there are KZbin videos of your exercises or tutorials. I usually search my grade+the name of the exercise or my grade+barre, etc. -Strech!: If you warm up and stretch well in the beginning of the lesson everything will become way easier, trust me! -Don’t forget to keep a good posture, straight knees, tighten stomach and glutes. This is important because it will help you with balance! -During exercises, don’t forget your head: foot to the front=head to the side, foot to the side=head to the front, foot to the back=head to the side. -Remember the comments your teacher makes! If you hear the same thing a lot, write it down and try to remember to not repeat the same mistake. Also, I’m in RAD so I don’t know if per example for the head positions it works like that for everyone so try to inform yourself. Hope I helped! :))

@leah82694 жыл бұрын
You don't have to be flexible to start ballet but if you wanna take it more seriously or just want to be flexible you can stretch and do some stretching often and you will see. Dance is not just about flexibility, it is about line, technique, coordination, body control and passion... Just have fun, while quarantine just take ballet lesson online but think about the technique more than about the flexibility. But I recommend to stretch, Anna mcnulty has awesome stretch routine... Good luck Btw: I started dance not a long ago and I love it so much 😍

Thank you so much for the help! I will try out everything you said and maybe I can make my ballet dream come true
@andromedaespejo79864 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think the most important concept it's the "turn out". Once you understand it you can really now if you're doing your exercises right because it helps you with every position. The "turn out" is when you "open" your legs so your knees don't see in front of you but in diagonal, the movement starts from the hips and your butt (you can feel it if you imagine there's a coin between your butt so you have to maintain it there, and I know it's sound funny but once you put strength in your butt the rest of the leg should follow the movement.) to your knees, ending with your foot. You can feel it if you lay down and let loose your legs. Some people have natural turn out, some don't, and that's okey, the important thing is not forcing it, and you can know that if your knees aren't straight. I hope this help you, :)

Go ahead and do it! I started ballet the year I turned 15 and I couldn’t even really touch my toes but if you work hard you can do it! nobody's judging you. it might seem intimidating and scary at first but everyone in that class is there to learn just like you. focus on the exercises and listen to corrections. if you want to become stronger, you can do some simple exercises to strengthen your feet and therabands are very good for exercising your feet. i hope all these comments have inspired you to start and just know that you'll be beautiful !

I started ballet last year when I was 14 (I did do ballet for 2 years when I was 4 and 5) and I went to my friend’s studio which I knew I would be able to be in with the girls my age rather than with the girls my skill level, and it was really good having my best friend to help me figure out what I was doing and help me outside of dance class. Im curvier than the other girls in the class but my friend has a VERY similar body shape to me so that has helped me not feel terrible about my body when so many of the others are so much slimmer (they’re all super nice though) and I had my first ballet performance since I was 5 a few weeks ago and I did super well and I LOVE ballet. The teacher tries so hard to make everyone feel accepted and happy and she worked with me to catch me up with the other girls when I first joined, giving me something to do to work up to it if things were too hard. I know lots of people that would be too scared to start something new at this age, but I’m super determined so nothing was stopping me even if I felt a bit discouraged sometimes 😂 but truly, ballet makes me really happy and I’m SO happy that I joined when I did, it’s never too late to start something new. Its so amazing that you are starting ballet and it can be really fun, but please don’t worry about your weight! you don’t need to be a certain weight or size to do ballet. The ballet industry can be very harsh about body image and that sort of thing, so especially at your age, don’t put that pressure on yourself. Doing ballet is so much fun and I really hope you enjoy it❤

Luna some persons will always have something negative to say no matter how good you are. But in my country, there is a saying that "Mango tree no get stoned for nothing" if the mango tree has mangoes it has to expect that someone is going to try picking them. that's my translation of it, girl you have a talent so just use negativity as stepping stone.

I've been wanting do ballet forever. I actually started when I was little and I fell in love with it. However, after a few months I had to drop out due to bullying. Now, I'm 23 and I started ballet in September. I was very scared to start doing it, but it is the best thing I've done. I feel so happy and encouraged. Thank you for this video, it was really useful

Started last year at 15 and switched studios from a not so great comp studio to an amazing vaganova based school and I’m in the pre-pro class level!!! Even though my peers are mostly younger than me (12-13) there are still a good amount of students that are my age! It’s all about finding the right place for you!

I love your new intro, and you were so pretty with your outfit and makeup ❤️ Btw I started ballet two years ago and I'm 25 yo , so It's never too late to start, if ballet is your passion then do it don't be afraid ❤️ of course at first I was very scared to be judged but now I don't care anymore, I'm just enjoying what I'm doing ❤️ And for those of you guys who want to be more flexible you should definitely do yoga (everyday is more effective) because I was pretty flexible but now it has been two years since I started yoga and I do it everyday now, and I have my splits, I can do high leg hold etc❤️ (sorry for my bad english)

I personally don't really like the new intro. it's just not my style. but hey most important is you like it and I'm happy with it😁 I guess I just "expected" since you said you've had the old one for so long, you wanna chance it to something more "mature" idk. so I was kinda surprised😅 much love ♡

My advice for begginer, get full sole ballet flat shoes... It's much harder and allows you to work on your feet and strengthen them. But for performance do split sole to make your feel look better

I've been doing dance since I was a little kid, but as of now I'm 15 and doing ballet and taking it much more seriously, its been a few months, I have for the most part my left split, working on my right split and my middle split is close. the biggest issue I probably have is spotting and turns for some odd reason, but I've been trying my best to fix that as well! Honestly I don't think theirs such a thing as starting too late, even adults in their 20's or 30's can start out and still do fantastic! never give up
