At 57:53; Gus Grissom becomes the world's first space pilot when he commands a maneuver changing the spacecraft's orbital altitude. This skill is used in all rendezvous flight profiles and Gus was the first to do it. This milestone is all but lost in the corned beef sandwich story.

Wish Gus would have lived, to be the first man on the Moon!

On matters closer to home... Did you know that the town of Orwell has a 5' tall x 6' wide Menorah greeting travelers as the pass through the village?! Well, by Jeezum... We do! Of course, it will be coming down on Thursday... as Chanukah will be over... and a creche - complete with life sized biblical critters (sans anything porcine - for obvious reasons) will be going up in its place. Who says Orwell isn't really religiously observant...? Check out my Facebook page for photos of same. Although, the might be viewed from Main Street, I doubt they can be seen from space.

At 59:26, Grissom reports the IVI's (incremental velocities) imparted by the burn and Chris Craft mishears them: Texas CapCom: Say again that last number. Flight: Three! Grissom: Two! Zero, zero, two. Flight: (silence) Whoops.

I was wondering, who is filming the capsule. ?
@EmilyCarneySpaceflight12 жыл бұрын
Neil wasn't on this one, but he was a total badass!

@ 33minutes, the film is dark on my screen. Is this actual footage? (dark side)
@keithfitzpatrick41392 жыл бұрын
Is this a simulated video of the capsule floating over the simulated earth, With the actual radio conversation. ?
@lunarmodule52 жыл бұрын
It's all visualised, except where film exists, with simulator footage. There's no other way to visually show what was going on. Even today they don't have remote cameras flying free taking video - all cameras in space, except some that were experimental on shuttle, are fixed to the spacecraft

What was filming the module ? How did they do that ?
@lunarmodule53 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael - that's a screen recording of the Gemini spacecraft from a simulator. I screen record the event and then add it to the audio. Hope that helps regards LM5
