I imagine the spiral crew cabin design not only maximizes space, but also could allow a detcord haul ejection system, so if you have parachutes in the cabins, you could eject while at subsonic speeds or close to it. The detcord could unzip the haul and allow the cabins to eject outward.

It is just incredible how much space there is inside the Starship nosecone. Some people permanently live in a smaller volume than that! People can walk (float) around and not be hitting their elbows everywhere. Heck they could even jog around the inside perimeter like in 2001 A Space Odyssey.
@LiquorandCheeseburgers2 күн бұрын
It's definitely roomy. My wife and I lived in less than 225 square feet for almost 8 years aboard a sailboat. But unlike an astronaut, we could spend time on deck, stretch the legs, poke our head out whenever we wanted, they won't be able to do that. It's going to take some special people to be able to cope with that type of confinement. I used to think that I could be the type of person to journey to and live on Mars but after years of living aboard, I've decided it's not for me (not that I'd have a chance to be an astronaut anyway). My bet is that some submariners could be trained, they've already proven their mental abilities to be able to confine themselves for extended periods of time. Exciting times we live in, I can't wait for the delayed- live feeds during these missions!

Thank you again, Marcus! I still wonder why SpaceX doesn’t perform a short re-entry burn on the super heavy booster similar to the falcon nine process. I know this would reduce payload capacity, but it was scary watching the yellow-hot engine section of the booster before the catch on the last flight. There was clearly some damage and this certainly would affect the quick turnaround they are looking for. I haven’t heard anybody discuss this possibility. What do you think?
@zhentaaКүн бұрын
When SpaceX decided on full reuse, they gave up the option of simply taking the easy route at the cost of payload. If they tackled all their problems like that, payload would hit zero very quickly. They won't be able to make all of their optimizations work in the end, but that just means they have to try a lot of them to find enough of the ones that do work.
