Got to do a full resto mod, give it a modern turn on it, if you sell it on it could be lost to a gunner... Gunner get it done, gunner get it done, so on so on until it's beyond recovery

For $600 you came up huge. It's always rebuildable regardless of condition. You can also replace the magnesium water pump and outer clutch assembly with a 91+, they are all aluminum and require an upgrade to the basket due to the extra 8th plate. You can run CR250 steel plates as well, I've always preferred them over the 500s aluminum.

Love your videos. Your underdressed for 22 degrees out in the moving air. A baseball cap, and jacket are fine if your just passing through the cold from your house to car, but if your going to work in the cold get a one piece insulated Carhartt (or the like) work suit and a heavy hat and cloth gloves. Then you won't even notice the cold. I wear that get up when the temperatures start to drop into the 50s and colder here in the Northeast.. Your videos are inspirational, I have a 1986 CR250 that I bought for $600 in 1992 that that I want to restore one day, I remember when I bought it, the kid I got it from also had in his barn a 1985 KX 500. I don't remember if that was for sale or not. Even though I wish I had the 500, I didn't have much money, and even today if given the choice I would go for the 86 CR250. It's a beautiful bike. Before that I had an 1881 or 82 Water cooled RM 125 that I wish I had never sold. I fell in love with the water cooled motor cross bikes when my friends father bought him a 1985 KX 60. The 85 KXs and 86s are my favorites, my first dirt bike crushes. Same goes for my 86CR 250, I just love those years, and how those bikes looked. Thanks again for your videos, I'll keep watching. Thanks again for

I was able to come up on a 1986 CR500R for only $400. I put about $1500 into it and it is wicked. So with not a lot of money you can rebuild your 500 with upgrades and definitely get your moneys worth by keeping it or get your money back and more if you sell it. Nice find!!

I recently fixed up a WR that arrived with painted plastics. I figured I had nothing to lose trying some paint stripper on them. It worked perfectly and did not damage the plastics at all. Give it a shot! Personally, I would clean up the plastics, get it looking as good as I could with the parts that are there, and then I'd dump it for a nice profit. However, it would probably make good content to do a full restomod.

Great find and great fix on the no spark! I think that you should sell one of the other bikes, sell the kids bike, sell those two little Honda Mini bikes that you don't ride, sell your pickup...(you're picking up what I'm puttin' down) and resto-mod that 500. By the way, you don't need to bake Cerakote as hot as the factory says in the instructions, so if your doing small parts, a little thrift store toaster oven turned on it side with a hanging hook will do the job. I got tougher (chip resistant) finishes baking for 2.5 hours at 180 degrees than I did at their higher recommended heat. The air cure isn't nearly as tough as the oven cure. In my gun store, I painted firearms with Cerakote for years with great success. I wouldn't get all caught up in buying an expensive oven.
