Hey Rob on the great lakes and the lakes around it you gotta go deeper for bigger. Dock fishing will only get you small fish.

ChaseTrill I fished Erie as a kid a lot during summer going up to my grandparents boat. Everything big I ever cought was definitely was out in the open water.

Zachary aka sYRes True I fish up in Maine and have never caught anything over 2 pounds under a dock. But open water I’ve caught 10 pound +.
@codkue51426 жыл бұрын
agree, fishing around dropoffs and the deeper edge of the weedbeds gets them in weedy northern bowl type lakes
@bryanlammers3844 жыл бұрын
Completely false. All depends on the lake. I've got 5# bass off docks in Minnesota. Chances of smaller fish are definitely increased, but there are big fish on docks.
@migesfishing77366 жыл бұрын
I read a book called Hannons big bass magic many years ago as a kid .. he talked about bass only growing during a certain warmer temperature range ... so the longer a body of water was in that range the longer fish in that body of water would grow each year ... the range was on the warmer end so a bass let’s say in Mexico can reach 5lbs in a few year where a Wisconsin bass may take a life time to reach that size .. that was his explanation of why bass up north tend to be smaller 😬👍🏼

I have to admit I'm not much of a fisherman but Iv lived in NW Minnesota for the majority of my life and know a lot of people who fish Leech Lake and have great things to say about it! Cool to see you coming to Minnesota!
@jggravy6 жыл бұрын
As a Minnesota guy I LOVE watching you fishing in my state! If you still have a few days, try moving out from the shallow water and fish weed edges or weed lines. I find mostly smaller fish in the shallows this time of year with an occasional larger one like the 4 lbs on the dock.

Btw walleye is really easy to over spice because it’s such a gentle flavour so just remember when cooking it hold back on a lot of spices and only use a small amount. 👍 🔥👌🔥

I miss fishing Wisconsin and Minnesota every summer while visiting my family out there. live in the mountains now, so I typically only fish rivers and streams. do yourself a favor and go old school up there. head up to the boundary waters for a week. canoe, tent, rifle. that's where the big ones are. better yet, northern Wisconsin chippewa and chequamegon flowage. truly amazing boat fishing up there. keep em coming, some of my favorite content on the tube
@shred56 жыл бұрын
Hey Rob, I can tell you aren't from up north from your fishing tactics. No worries... the Ned rig is equally effective with largemouth bass as it is with smallmouth bass up north, but in the warmer weather with a boat and a decent size lake, I'd be more inclined to go with the drop shot anyway and just look for rocks by drop offs where the water starts getting deeper for smallies. Also you should definitely target some Walleye. I live in Massachusetts and have to go out of state to target Walleye since none of our lakes have them. Plus you might get a few good smallies while you're at it.

Rob, 2 suggestions for you. Fish the wild rice in steamboat bay on the east side of the island it’s the old river channel, I’ve seen massive Largemouth pulled out of there. Also if you want to see one of the clearest bluest water lakes while your near Leach you’ll have to go into the backwoods to the Northeast of Steamboat Bay and look on the Map for Lake Thirteen some really great Largemouth there. Hope that helps! Spent many summers on Leech Lake as a kid.

the problem with MN lakes is that theres such a difference between them. soil types are way different so vegetation vaies so much and then the topography can vary so much too. Plus winter can be pretty hard on the fish. Musky and Pike fishing is where its at here in MN

Just letting you know I live in Maine and the lakes are pretty opposite of what you think northern lakes are. I can fish rocky shorelines that drop off 25 feet right next to the shore, tree stumps, pads, reeds, sunken trees, and many other types of cover. The lakes are not all bowl shaped at all take a look on google maps. Yes the fish are smaller than down south but the state record is over 11 pounds and you can catch a few 4-6 pounders often and many over 3 pounds daily. I guess it must vary a lot between states
