The base narrative is concurent with Lupes career, from Mumble rap Amy becomes a battle rapper but also is Lupes genesis as a MC, this song speaks to both artists performance anxiety, Amy's character being the No1 Battle rapper (No1 HeadBand Afro Samurai reference) but worrying about no appreciation and having to compromise her art (battle raps) to be accepted in the HipHop world but also speaks to Lupes career facing having to sacrifice his skill for commercial success. On my fifth listen and its becoming a bit more clearer 😂

I'm pretty sure the "Mask like I'm daft" line is a Daft punk reference too. They didn't get popular and find their groove and overcome early performance difficulties until they took on the robot personas and started wearing their helmets (masks) .
