@Babyskitt11 жыл бұрын
westherie First of all. I did not call her ugly. I was agreeing with Sherri. The reason it was so funny to me was because Sherri was entranced by her. She was staring like she had to hurry up and put it out there that Lupita is beautiful. SO if you could keep the nasty comments to yourself I am very grateful. Second, BLACK PEOPLE LIKE ME are not steeped in shit. All Black people are beautiful in my eyes because we have been through so much shit that can top anything. Also thanks for the comment because I love my size, and color. Now keep your ignorance to yourself instead of posting as a blue colored face on my comment.

westherie ALSO. Before you assumed I was dissing Lupita, you could have looked me up on my tumblr: carsonsstorm.tumblr and saw that I love her and reblog things that shows off her gorgeousness. timmyreg Unfortunately not black women in general. I'm being honest here. This is the truth. Young Black America women need to take a long hard look at this young lady. No weave, no ebonic's, no kids, and she stayed in school. The world is her oyster now. Obviously not everyone has the talent or drive to be an actress, but we're all born with our own gifts. Being feminine has nothing to do with weight, it has all to do with attitude. She's a lady through and through and few women these days fit that description. A woman does something, whatever it is, and we are compelled to comment on her physical appearance. In addition to that, it's fascinating how many times people comment on beautiful she is. Having to bring attention to it reflects the fact that we don't normally consider a woman who looks like her to be beautiful and we're surprised by it. However lovely it is to express the truth of her beauty, we should still question why we have to keep pointing it out.
@hazeddon11 жыл бұрын
I think you're over thinking it a little. The same thing happened with Henry Cavill when he was promoting man of steel because he's a very attractive guy. People constantly comment on how beautiful she is because she's exceptionally beauty. Least people keep commenting on how good of a performance she gave, Henry pretty much only ever gets complimented on how he looks.
@msv36511 жыл бұрын
hazeddon You're absolutely right. Her work was stellar in the movie, and no one's refuting that she's talented. However, her beauty is exceptional. It'd be impossible to look at her and not comment on her beauty.

***** You haven't seen the movie. Make a statement like "no white man can tell me about the history of my people, for one" THE DIRECTOR IS A BLACK MAN!!!!!. So ignorant, wake up!
@peoplebeforeprofit11 жыл бұрын
***** Lincoln, Django, the Help. Yes, white men directed those works. But have you seen Fruitville, Mother of George, Restless City, or Pariah. Clearly not. Or you wouldn't be talking such myopic nonsense. This is a great time for Black Directors, Actors. Do your research, and enjoy some of it. Google the above mentioned. Far from picking a fight, In simply annoyed at black people directly or inadvertently spouting negativity towards what is clearly a Master work from a Black Master filmmaker,
@kambibolongo753011 жыл бұрын
***** Well, if you think Hollywood will give blacks some movie roles on a silver plate then you will wait for a long long time! You better start telling your own stories instead of waiting for Hollywood to do it for you. Twelve Years A Slave is not even a Hollywood movie, otherwise director Steve McQueen would not have had the freedom to narrate this true story the way he did it in the movie. Hollywood would have tremendously diluted it if not drastically changed the narrative to create heroes out of the slave masters! And by the way the fact that Steve McQueen and all the lead actors in this movie nominated for Oscar (Chiwetel, Lupita and Michael) are non Americans, speaks volumes in contrast with what comes out of Hollywood! Only a non American is capable of unearthing this important piece of history and making it into a realistic movie.

And since she was born in Mexico, her father (whose name is Peter) did a nice play on the word "Lupita" for Mexico and "lu" which in Kenyan means "follow" and a play on his name "Peter", so to also mean "follow Peter". She never claims to be Mexican, always Kenyan and proud. She only spent 6 months of her infance in mexico because moving back to Kenya and growing up there until 16. Stop trying to claim her because you have nothing else to be proud of. Dipshit. Bet you can't even pronounce her last name! Lol

My brother, for example, was born in Venezuela but my mkm and his dad are Dominican. My mom just happened to be in Venezuela when she gave birth to him and he has grown up in the Dominican Republic his entire life and never went back to Venezuela... so if he represents what he has know his entire life, it would be the Dominican Republic and not Venezuela altho he always mentions where he was born. The way she formulated the question was different than their answers.
@SunyiSideUp11 жыл бұрын
She was asking if they were aware of the nature of American slavery, because while the slave trade was international, slavery was different in different parts of the world. American slavery was particularly brutal, although the idea that you can own another human being is brutal and violent in itself. But, yes, Whoopi's question was relevant. Because even within the Americas, slavery was different. For instance, in the Caribbean, or in South America, the nature of slavery was different than in the US. As was the nature of slavery in the UK. What we learned in textbooks in elementary, middle, and high school was the very cleaned-up, sugar-coated version, and doesn't even really explain that slavery wasn't One Size Fits All around the world.
@RichTake11 жыл бұрын
Robert Kekuna Exactly! I'm from the West Indies/Caribbean and there was a sense of slavery in my country, but it wasn't to the extent of American racism. It was just simply more of segregation than cruelty

TF is 'Africans in America', do you mean black Americans? Because if so, I'd hate to break it to you that black Americans are not in fact 'Africans in America', they are no more that than whites are 'Europeans in America'. All are simply Americans! True Africans in America are those born in or are nationals of African countries who have recently voluntarily migrated there for residence or work such as LN. Thus, using your words, LN is both an African from another country and and African in America - they are not mutually exclusive.
@BuffyunaTV10 жыл бұрын

She was born rich, why can't people be smart enough. That's the reason of the difference.
When I was in the theater watching this movie and Lupita's character Patsy first came on screen. The first thing I thought was she is so pretty and she wasnt' wearing any makeup. I could so see why her Slave master would be smitten with her. But during those times it would be more like lusting after her. Now I know that the real Patsy probably didn't look like Lupita but she could have been just as pretty.
