Great video. I wish I had watched this when I first started bass fishing in January. It’s been so tough - 24 trips on the South coast of England, and only one bass landed - but now things are warming up I’ve had 3 bites in a week. I love it. My days of sitting behind a rod pod waiting for a carp to find my bait are gone……….

When it comes to bass I think you are right about colours, I mostly go trolling for bass and its more about the vibration and the movement of the lure that intices the bass to hit the lure the more shaking vibrating of the top of the rod the better the lure, rapala has some great bass lures like husky jerk, x rap, max rap.

@@Fox7466 As a general rule Rougher overcast weather is good. However Marks are very specific and here our cloudy water isnt as productive so clearer calm Northerlies is preferred. Bass as you know will swim in the rand hunt in the rough stuff. Local knowledge is key. I think an exception might be HUGE fish. They seem to be caught in rough weather.

Please add in your video unhooking techniques and tools and maybe closing two of the barbs on treble hooks or changing to singles, I've lure fished for bass for 25 years and I've seen some heart breaking treatment of these wonderful fish ,and if the newbies to this incredible sport start with the right mindset it's great for all of us, love the channel and your obvious passion👍

It's actually heartening to see so many newer generation anglers with a more solid attitude towards conservation than when I was younger. The average Joe had a more rough n' ready approach and didn't have a wealth of information at their fingertips. Much better to use a good single barbless, than a mini grappling hook from hell.

Yeah, I’ve fished for bass specifically since my childhood, mostly ledgered bait, but sometimes free lining with live sandeel when I could get them. I’m in my sixties now and want to get into lure fishing. I was shocked when I learned that these beautiful fish can live to 20 or even 30 years and don’t reach breeding maturity until they are about 40cm (slightly less for males). It upset me that fish I was keeping for the pan were probably immature. That was many years ago before I knew anything about size limits (not even sure they were a thing back then). Anyway since I found this out by far the majority of my bass have been returned to the sea. I sincerely hope people stick to the size and number limits these days. Important that new anglers learn about the fish they catch.

I used to fish all the time with bait, and then got my m8 into sea fishing. He was introduced to spinning by another friend, and so he taught me about it. Never looked back. My first season was 2019 and had a good run of fish averaging 4lb that year, with 1 going close to 8lb. Unfortunately lockdowns meant no fishing at all for me in 2020, so hopefully can get back out this year. Can't beat that adrenaline rush of seeing a big fish smash a surface lure

Another great video. I have noticed on all of the bass lure fishing videos that I’ve watched, from so many different channels, is that nobody seems to use buck tail lures. I guess everybody knows what works for them, & with their marks. I know we can’t compare Florida to England but I’ve had a lot of success with the “flair hawk” type lures. A predatory fish, is a predatory fish, where ever you fish. I’m very interested to hear your thoughts. Thanks again. I’m just about to watch part two.

I got my first Bass on an LRF about October time last year. Was about 2-3lbs but it was a massive fight compared to pollack/coleys. It felt like a dog pulling on the end of a bit of rope. There’s some marks in the channel if your in the south in our mark guide videos - you will definitely catch bass this time of year BUT it’s wether the conditions allow you to actually get out in some clearer water. In other words the bass will be there feeding but the water conditions are rarely good for lure fishing - especially this year

Hey there I’m new to fishing and really enjoy your videos, really informative and enjoyable. I want to try some bass fishing off the rocks and was wondering, I’ve got a 18lb braided line, should the fluorocarbon leader be a stronger or weaker strength. There’s so much conflicting info out there it’s hard to know what’s best, obviously it’s probably a matter of opinion too haha. Thanks.

Perfect timing for me as I've just got my first lure rod. I have a few questions for you. I'm a little along the coast from you just into W Sussex, so when is a good time to start bass fishing? And can you give more detail on what to look out for when you're looking for bass marks? Do you always need rocks/rough ground or will you find bass around groins, breakwaters or harbour walls? Thanks!
@SaltwaterAngler
@SaltwaterAngler 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave the answer is usually when the water temp gets up during early summer it should encourage Bass to feed. I’m not sure of the figure but definitely over 10 degrees. I’ve caught them In March on lures but realistically they are better sort on crab and other baits early spring. I know by July lures are worth a try and this will carry on right in to November . You should be looking for all those features but Bass will still chase baitfish up featureless shingle at times. Gull activity inshore a good sign especially when the gulls are high- lower down indicates mackerel

Colour choice makes a massive difference in my opinion.. last season i use the launceR for 80% of my surface fishing the Mullet Bora colour slayed them where as the mackerel..white and ayu colours didn’t do so well..As the years go bye my lure collection is becoming smaller and smaller With each season that passes as you will learn what the bass are after..If I had to fish with two lures for a whole season it would be a feed shallow 128 mullet n a patchinko 125 500g.. don’t be fooled like I was by all the tackle companies selling shiny new lures in sexy looking colours because 90% of the time they won’t work🤙🏼
@SaltwaterAngler

Well where’s the fun in that ! It’s really hard to incorporate all the variables in to why a bass takes. For instance I have a bias towards the lures that caught the one off bigger fish, but it may of been the way I retrieved or the any number of other reasons. I think as with most things the more experienced one gets the more refined and minimal our choices. I also don’t do well with white overall but had an awesome session once where they only took white ! I’ll be trialing some more theory’s this year about colour , I’m not sure at night if small changes matter just dark, light and middle of spectrum maybe ? Thanks for your input 👏

Hi Joyce , yes part 2 addresses a lot of these points so I hope you watch it. Mono will be fine , yes I do keep the odd bass and will do during July when they have spawned, 4lb fish are usually my taking size. Maybe I’ll keep one in 5 but in many ways I view fishing more like hunting than a sport.

Hi Tom yea ill put a list on the website Generally 2/0 VMC 7266 Specimen Inline Inline Single I like www.lurefishingforBass.co.uk . Remember though the Thickness and profile of the Lure will dictate Hook size So Watch that they don't catch . 3/0 needed on Some Lures. Ill be honest although Singles are Easier to Unhook they can come out of the Fish and on occasion rip the Mouth so some Compromises to be had.

For my own disbelief I caught my first bass today and I wasn't even going to do fishing in the first place. 🤣 I went kayaking for a round trip from Hythe to Folkestone. I have ordered a 5ft rod from temu for my 9 year old for £7 with reel(He is very unpatient so fishing isn't for him, but wanted to try) . I had all my gears in the car, so grabbed the small tackle box and his cheap rod, 5 feathers rig was on the top of the box so it was my first choice. I was like what ever happens happens. The rod on the holder, line above my head and I was padding straight without bothering about fishing really. After an hour into the journey I caught a small 45cm bass. I could not beleive that I could land that fish with the £7 toy rod.
