I haven't sea fished since I was a kid on family holidays off a pier. I live in the centre of England so sea fishing has not been easy or accessible for me as its a minimum of 70+ miles to get the the nearest coastline. I have course fished on & off most of my life but this year I aim to have a go at lures for bass on holiday in the IOW. I have no idea what to expect or where to go but I've got some travel spin rods , reels & a bunch of hard & soft lures to have a go with. After years of sitting inactive behind ledger or float rods I like the idea (& I need the exercise) of roaming about with a spinning rod. Even spinning on course waters for pike, chub & perch. I also like the idea of not having to take loads of clobber with me like those carp anglers you see with wheel barrows full of kit. Just a rod, a reel, some lures & a net & if I'm lucky perhaps keep 1 or 2 bass for tea. Love your video's. Subbed & liked.

Love it ! Thanks Colin and welcome- you’ll have to let us know how it goes, Bon church has held many bass over the years and there are 20lb bass swimming in IOW waters. Like you say travelling light is the way to go, lots of good marks on the island 👍

Just Subscribed> Nice series on Bass Lure fishing thanks very much. There is one thing that brand new Bass folk may not know about that you missed though in this video but may have covered in others and that's that Bass has build in Defences lol its gill plate is razor-sharp and The other danger area is the fan-like dorsal fin, which the fish raises in anger or when under threat is Armed with a row of spines like needles, the unwary hand can easily be punctured. I learnt this myself by getting spiked lol. So maybe a video on handling/ landing fish species that have spiky bits like weever fish etc etc.

Just a question, is it really so necessary to have 3 trebles on a lure ? I'd prefer to use big single barbless so if I lose a few fish at least iam never harming them
@SaltwaterAngler2 жыл бұрын
Much discussed here on the channel. Effective and I’ve had lost fish on singles snaring the fish leaving them possibly harmed. Also trebles can leave a trailing hook that damages bigger fish. Best results happen in strong tides. So the answers aren’t a simple as most people think. It’s not necessary to have trebles as you say but you may be harming them with singles also. I’ve landed hundreds of bass with no problems with trebles easy enough to unhook with occasional issues. You ask a good question

Hope you do not mind me asking? But is there any particular reason that you do not seem to use a swivel on the end of the line ? But seem to favour a straight connection to a plain clip line to lure. I was wondering why ? Is it more beneficial ? As I am old school @ ( 68 ) and have always used swivels. Looking to get a new lure rod 🤔 as my old faithful got shut in the car door, yep er' indoors shhhh. Been looking around, today's market seems to be a veritable minefield of choices. Looking to up 50 grm max though, and maybe a somewhat lighter one for the very light lures say 5 to 15 grm. Any suggestions or thoughts greatly appreciated 🙏if you have any spare time. Many thanks. Les.
@SaltwaterAngler3 жыл бұрын
Hi Les , the swivel will cause the lure to spin on the retrieve the weighting in the lure and the lip on sinking lures are designed (loosely) so they are in direct contact- I’ll do a video showing this As for rods it does depends where you fish but something close to 9- 30g takes cares of 90% of my lure fishing. 9ft is a good standard choice. But your in the right track with the weights you mention. Ofcourse budget dictates your choice.

When connecting braid to fluro is it best to tie line to line or tie to a swivel? Do you have less success tying braid direct to the lures?
@SaltwaterAngler3 жыл бұрын
Tie an fg knot not a swivel. Braid direct to lure is ok some anglers do this but for me braid>fg knot>fluorocarbon>mini link >lures
@hyeonjunkang20513 жыл бұрын
Can I use snap swivels for lures fishing for sea bass? IVe done a bit of research and some say its fine since its a fish and were overthinking it. And is only notciable visible in ultra crystal clear water. Whilst some say it disturbs the action and spooks the fish. Its a lot quicker to use snap swivels to change lures. Also would a 6 inch sidewinder skerries eel be too big for sure fishing for bass in an estuary and beach?
@SaltwaterAngler3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can use the snaps no problems. But i can recommend the breakaways mini lure clip for strength and ease of use. It does effect the action or rather the control you have over smaller lures but negligible. A 6” bass will attack 6”lures so I’d have no problem using side winders and I’m tempted to use giant lures sometimes

Excellent series and just what I was looking for. One question, please. I come from pike fishing. For pike, I'd typically use 12lb monofilament with a 12" wire trace, swivel at one end and clip at the other. What do you think with the same set up spinning for bass from the shore, please? I am off to Wales for two weeks shore fishing soon 😁. Thanks.
@SaltwaterAngler3 жыл бұрын
Interesting. Some Pike fishing tactics work well but id ditch the wire trace for 20lb plus flurocarbon . 20lb mainline. Dont use your swivel it adversely effects the lure control. Breakaway miniclips or tie lure direct to flouro using the rapala knot

@@SaltwaterAngler I thought as everyone was bored, in lockdown i though i would get back into angling my self so i was not so much stuck in. But it gave me the idea of my own channel as i get back into the sport! so sea fishing will be on my to do list this year! and watching your videos is an isperation as much as a lesson for me in both fishing and KZbin. as i am learning both in certain areas. as much as iv never really done any sea fishing so i think it wil make some very intresting videos. Thank you for your advice and ill be sure to tunning in to watch more of your vids thank you.

Thanks for the reply 👍. Will be looking forward to the pending video, it's still true, no matter how old you are there's still something new to learn. Will this be water based ? Or a dry run for want of better terminology. Waiting with baited breath for video. Will we get a heads up ?

What's the rules around catching Bass in the winter months? between November and March?
@SaltwaterAngler2 жыл бұрын
Officials this with a no take from December . Recreational bass fishing Recreational fisheries, including from shore, in ICES divisions 4b, 4c, 6a, 7a to 7k are limited to catch-and-release only during 01 January to 29 February and 1 December to 31 December. From 1 March to 30 November, not more than two seabass may be retained per fisherman per day. In recreational fisheries in ICES divisions 8a and 8b, a maximum of two seabass may be retained per recreational fisherman per day throughout the year. The minimum size of European seabass retained shall be 42 cm. I would consider only taking fish over 47cm in season anyway that extra few cm can be crucial as they are on the way to being strong spawning fish. The legislation isn’t updated regularly and it will change again I’d imagine one the ifca consolidation has finished

Very informative, thanks. When fishing water that isn’t very clear, would you recommend surface lures, or something like a savage sand eel ? The areas I like to fish in Devon are quite often pretty murky.......

can u fish at night in a lite up areas?
@SaltwaterAngler2 жыл бұрын
Yes indeed. Bass don’t spook as much as people think in areas where light is in situ. Places like harbours and piers that have lights shining in to the water can actually help fishing

Can you catch pther fish in the uk in the sea using lures? Ive just got all the gear and been three times using bait (worms mackeral and squid) - diddnt catch anything but i think its because im to impatient to just sit there and watch the rod. So i love the idea of lure fishing but dont want to be limited to just one fish, if i ever catch any 😂
