When it comes to bass I think you are right about colours, I mostly go trolling for bass and its more about the vibration and the movement of the lure that intices the bass to hit the lure the more shaking vibrating of the top of the rod the better the lure, rapala has some great bass lures like husky jerk, x rap, max rap.

Please add in your video unhooking techniques and tools and maybe closing two of the barbs on treble hooks or changing to singles, I've lure fished for bass for 25 years and I've seen some heart breaking treatment of these wonderful fish ,and if the newbies to this incredible sport start with the right mindset it's great for all of us, love the channel and your obvious passion👍

Thanks Keith yes that should be covered in round two ! One thing we were talking about the other day was it would help if lure manufacturers offered a single hooked or de barbed version of their lures.
@skateboardingjesus40063 жыл бұрын
It's actually heartening to see so many newer generation anglers with a more solid attitude towards conservation than when I was younger. The average Joe had a more rough n' ready approach and didn't have a wealth of information at their fingertips. Much better to use a good single barbless, than a mini grappling hook from hell.

Yeah, I’ve fished for bass specifically since my childhood, mostly ledgered bait, but sometimes free lining with live sandeel when I could get them. I’m in my sixties now and want to get into lure fishing. I was shocked when I learned that these beautiful fish can live to 20 or even 30 years and don’t reach breeding maturity until they are about 40cm (slightly less for males). It upset me that fish I was keeping for the pan were probably immature. That was many years ago before I knew anything about size limits (not even sure they were a thing back then). Anyway since I found this out by far the majority of my bass have been returned to the sea. I sincerely hope people stick to the size and number limits these days. Important that new anglers learn about the fish they catch.

Some of those treble hook combinations are brutal, a deep hooked or multi hooked fish has no chance of surviving after release. I would appeal to all anglers to change these hooks to inline singles.

Colour choice makes a massive difference in my opinion.. last season i use the launceR for 80% of my surface fishing the Mullet Bora colour slayed them where as the mackerel..white and ayu colours didn’t do so well..As the years go bye my lure collection is becoming smaller and smaller With each season that passes as you will learn what the bass are after..If I had to fish with two lures for a whole season it would be a feed shallow 128 mullet n a patchinko 125 500g.. don’t be fooled like I was by all the tackle companies selling shiny new lures in sexy looking colours because 90% of the time they won’t work🤙🏼
@SaltwaterAngler3 жыл бұрын
Well where’s the fun in that ! It’s really hard to incorporate all the variables in to why a bass takes. For instance I have a bias towards the lures that caught the one off bigger fish, but it may of been the way I retrieved or the any number of other reasons. I think as with most things the more experienced one gets the more refined and minimal our choices. I also don’t do well with white overall but had an awesome session once where they only took white ! I’ll be trialing some more theory’s this year about colour , I’m not sure at night if small changes matter just dark, light and middle of spectrum maybe ? Thanks for your input 👏

Never fished lures off a beach before, but it looks like my 10-40g rod, 16lb braid, 2500 reel and flouro leader should do OK I assume ? Ill be honest although Singles are Easier to Unhook they can come out of the Fish and on occasion rip the Mouth so some Compromises to be had.

Good one thanks Matt! Useful info as always. Those spool line clips make my poop itch! Not found one yet that the line stays in - put your reel away in a case and the next time you use it, it has created its own mini bird's nest! Stay safe & well - Dave. 👍👍

@@SaltwaterAngler I can't get on with Braid at all. 25Lb mono + 60Lb leader for F/S beach reels. I got hold of a motorcycle inner tube and cut some 20mm wide bands from it - ideal to put over reel spools! 👍👍

hi there, greaat video thanks. what is a sealed reel? and what maintenance does a reel need? Cheers
@SaltwaterAngler2 жыл бұрын
Gi George. A sealed reel - real top end stuff can be dunked in saltwater and it doesn't get in to the gearing part. Some reels are so good though they can survive some dunks .Lossen off the drag, Wash with fresh water after every trip. This is more of a reminder for myself though.

I’m so ready I’ve just stocked up and have got some of the gravity sticks to give a whirl.. I think I’ve watched all of your bassing videos at least 10 times so I’m ready for what’s to come.. quite possibly a season of disappointment and stress but hoping for a few decent lure caught bass... tight lines 🎣🎣

Hi, new to the lure element of fishing but what are your thoughts on the new type of powered lures for more realistic movements? Love the channel you’re got back interested in sea fishing again, thanks👍
@SaltwaterAngler3 жыл бұрын
Ah that’s good to know - powered lure sound bonkers ! Using your own skill to adjust the movement of the lure is a great thing and more in tune to hunting - that’s what I love about it

Nice tutorial and it helped answer some questions that I had as a beginner to lure fishing for bass, especially what reel sizes to use, but I was left confused as to why, having covered reels, you said nothing about what length/action of rod to use? Otherwise great and have liked and subscribed. Thanks for posting your videos!

Hi Kevin , this is a two part series and we cover rods in part two. Also check out the rods and reel video on the channel too it might help as we look at budgets for lure rods

Great video 😎, would you say you prefer rubber/ jelly lures or plastic? I've been using the savage gear rubber white sand eels and the yo zuri crystal minnow plastic not got anything yet ha! Mind you I've not been out much with lockdown!
@SaltwaterAngler3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rich , you ask a good question, it all depends it’s slightly more fun using the plastics on or near the surface but ... realistically soft plastics and jelly’s can be more effective when the bass are deep and lazy. Bouncing the soft plastics off the bottom has saved many a blank

Perfect timing for me as I've just got my first lure rod. I have a few questions for you. I'm a little along the coast from you just into W Sussex, so when is a good time to start bass fishing? And can you give more detail on what to look out for when you're looking for bass marks? Do you always need rocks/rough ground or will you find bass around groins, breakwaters or harbour walls? Thanks!
@SaltwaterAngler3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave the answer is usually when the water temp gets up during early summer it should encourage Bass to feed. I’m not sure of the figure but definitely over 10 degrees. I’ve caught them In March on lures but realistically they are better sort on crab and other baits early spring. I know by July lures are worth a try and this will carry on right in to November . You should be looking for all those features but Bass will still chase baitfish up featureless shingle at times. Gull activity inshore a good sign especially when the gulls are high- lower down indicates mackerel

Great video I’ve just bought the shimano sedona and saw you had one in this video. I have the 3000 but not sure where to fill the line up to on the spool? Any chance you could tell me how much to fill it up please?

The spool has a little offset lip fill just below that.

Another great video, well done. I agree with your comments regarding the different colour/patterns catching more anglers than fish 😂 however, I’ve caught good Bass in complete darkness so the Bass are obviously using other senses to locate their pray. Interesting subject.
@SaltwaterAngler3 жыл бұрын
The other piece to the puzzle at night is the moon providing enough light for the silhouette maybe. Night fishing definitely less crucial on colour
@andrewnewby19183 жыл бұрын
@@SaltwaterAngler first time I fished at night I used a needle fish lure, caught a 4lb and a 5lb, also the Albie Snax at night this time 4lb no moon on both occasions. I'm trying to surf fish in southwest Cornwall. Never fished before. Do you need a weight with a lure and how do you cast? I noticed you use a fairly gentle sideways cast. I've been throwing my rod overhead and often cast badly. A video on how to cast would be really appreciated.
@SaltwaterAngler3 жыл бұрын
Ok I will do that - you can get a punchier cast from over head but I’m being lazy

@@SaltwaterAngler brilliant. I know to leave the reel on slack and pinch the line to the rod with index finger but 9 times out of 10 the line goes sideways or up in the air only to land at my feet lol. I tried a lure with a 20lb line but the line snapped.

I want to try some bass fishing off the rocks and was wondering, I’ve got a 18lb braided line, should the fluorocarbon leader be a stronger or weaker strength. Hi! Thanks for posting. How often would you suggest replacing braid or monofilament on a reel, whether for lure fishing or regular beach fishing? Also, what kind of knot do you use to join the braid and mono? Thanks again.

The fg knot for braid to mono and change the end 2m of braaid after every lure trip. I leave the braid on my beach reels all season ! Probably shouldn’t 😂
