Cal, your vids are top notch. For my money, you are the go to guy for straight up fishing that I like to watch from your part of the world. All of you Guernsey guys do things well but for fishing that I like, you da man! Hope your hand is well! All that fish have been there.

Hi love your vlogs I'm new to using Brad do you ever suffer with wind knots as today ever cast sick of them .😢
@FISHINGWITHCAL Жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. Yeah wind knots can happen but 90% of the time it’s to do with how you’ve spooled your reel. It could be under filled or over filled.

Another nice video Cal, you must be weeks ahead of Wales, we're still nine degrees and murky. If you don't mind me saying your reel looks like it would take another 50m of braid, no problem. I fill my Shimanos right up to the lip, no windknots and you can cast the lighter lures much farther. Just don't try it with a Penn.
@FISHINGWITHCAL2 жыл бұрын
Cheers. It’s hit and miss here. One week it’s warm and sunny and the next week it’s freezing cold again. Water temp is roughly the same. Yeah I’m a bit short on the braid. It was a 150m spool, I had roughly half a spool left so that’s all that went on. Saved me having to buy a whole new spool this time. 👍🏼
@davidmackeown67732 жыл бұрын
Great video . You were lucky that treble didn't go into your thumb. Last year I had my treble go into my thumb. My own fault as didn't use pliers to take hook out- only time. Spent over 1 hour in hospital getting it out. Lesson learnt . I have pliers available in front pocket at all times and this year I'm using savage gear fishing gloves to avoid hooks etc. That was only hook I didn't crush my barbs also - typical. Great video as always cal.
@FISHINGWITHCAL2 жыл бұрын
That's unfortunate! Nearly all the time, i wear gloves too. Sods law, i take them off and that happens. It's how it goes sometimes, lessons learnt yeah. Cheers 👍🏼

That first bass was chaos 😂. Beautiful fish, stunning weather and location. Spiked myself with a treble a while back. Bass on one hook the other hook went down the side of my finger nail up past the barb. I'm at the bottom of a 10 minute cliff scramble and atleast 45 minutes from a hospital. Unhooked the fish first then myself. Very sore indeed 😂😂 Brilliant session there mate 👍

Awesome 👌 I'm just starting out with lure fishing for bass, really looking forward to getting out there 😀 I'm starting out with using some quality mono for the time being until I learn my way, once I do decide to use braid, do you tend to use a barrel swivel to tie the leader to braid or knots? Thanks 😊
@FISHINGWITHCAL2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. If I was you, I'd go with braid straight away. It's no different casting etc with braid than it is with mono. You will feel everything through the braid also, therefore giving you a lot more feedback on how the lures working. I use a size 8 barrel swivel most of the time to attach my leader. I use knots for leaders on my beach rods but swivels work for me for lure fishing. I also carry half a dozen pre tied leaders with me.
@samlomer99882 жыл бұрын
@@FISHINGWITHCAL thanks for the advice, what braid would you recommend using?
@FISHINGWITHCAL2 жыл бұрын
@@samlomer9988 That's a tough one haha. There are so many. I use Daiwa J Braid 8 strand in 26lb. I really like that braid but it is a little pricey. Something like Spiderwire is a bit cheaper and not bad though. Maybe see whats in your local tackle shop and go from there. You want something with a thin diameter too 👍🏼

Great stuff Cal as usual,might be worth investing in a Penn Slammer,I've had lots of drama with dunking non-sealed reels especially Daiwa's so I went straight in for a Spinfisher VI but going to get a Slammer now. I couldn't trust a Shimano after a dunking like that.
@FISHINGWITHCAL2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I rinsed the reel pretty well and have used it since and it’s been fine. It’s taken a bit of a bettering that reel, I’ve been using it for a good two and a half years now. I don’t do much surf fishing so I’ll probably stick to Shimano reels for now. I find Penn reels quite heavy, they’re tough as hell but for lure fishing I prefer a lighter reel. If I do end up doing some surf fishing I’d get a slammer 👍🏼

Ouch! The reason I use soft plastics 99% of the time now! One hook and not 3 flapping trebles Lol
@FISHINGWITHCAL2 жыл бұрын
Trebles can be a nightmare for a few reasons. Singles are far easier to unhook etc
@barlow29762 жыл бұрын
Me too, especially at night. I can unhook a fish and be into another in the time it takes to deal with trebles. Singles hook up and stay hooked for me too.

Do you ware gloves to stop being spiked

The funny thing is, yeah i do. 95% of the time i wear gloves for that exact reason, however, i got quite warm so took them off and that happened.
