Lovely video mate, what Penn rod is that?

hello cal, could u tell me what time of the year that is atm of the video? just curious about bass hitting top water lures in that weather. In northwestern part of spain where i live is almost impossible to get them on top water lures

Is there a specific rod you prefer for bream fishing or light bait fishing in general, or does it mainly boil down to the casting weight? I’m considering getting myself the Samson Long Cast Todos Travel (30-100g) as I travel by bike, and hoping I can mix some heavy lures with some light ledgering and float fishing to save me bringing several rods. I’ve heard of people using the rod for that abroad, but I wonder if the action won’t be ideal for the job. Most other travel rods out there seem poorly designed. Any thoughts?

Finding those leads was very odd. It’s funny the encounters you have while out fishing. Last week I was fishing round Poole and out of nowhere, on a completely isolated patch of reef, a Robin came and sat by me on the rocks. I then proceeded to feed the Robin out of my hand with some biscuits and it must have stayed there for a good 45 mins! Unreal!

They died quickly , after being tortured for over an hour

They were top french agents as well and cal knew all of them

They put them there for a reason 😊

Thanks Cal, great video as always. It’s getting tricky catching bass here on the South Coast of the UK - my last bite was 3 weeks ago - but I’m going to keep going through the winter. I get my inspiration from watching your videos - they give me hope at times when it’s likely to be futile to even go fishing! I’m presenting at a conference on Jersey in March ‘25, so I’m going to ‘accidentally’ sneak a travel rod and some lures on the flight! MaS

Whitea color best for bass is

I have all of these, and have had the most success on the skerries eel. One lure I would never be without is the SG sandeel pencil. Had 12 bass back to back on that one day, they were feeding on the surface beyond the range of any of my other lures, maybe 100 yards out. Retrieved it near the surface and had a fish almost every cast. Though I wonder if they would’ve taken any lure that day. It just happened to be the only one I could reach them with in shallow water, so that cemented its place in my box.
