Lure fishing for Bass in St Brides Pembrokeshire, Wales. Plagued by seals but some valuable tips for beginners.

Thing about bass is it doesnt matter about the tides state. Bass can be caught in a foot of water if their feeding, and thats the most challenging part of uk bass fishing, findinng out where the bass are feeding.

I agree. I think certain venues can be tide dependant due to accessibility but generally I agree.

Spin fished there myself this year both left and right of the bay, but blanked and lost a few lures. Mate has a few pollack by spear fishing there. I think the rubbish summer we had this year has had a lot to do with it. Had a few bass off Newgale sea fishing early on in the season then really struggled through the summer to catch anything was unusual as we normally pick up a few bass off newgale at night. County sports have done well out me this year. They need to stock up on their lures now. 😂

Good mark! It’s been an odd year for bass, feel the season started so early then ended, who knows! At least county sports doing good! 😂

@@bengriffithsseaangling2138 I’ve got a touring caravan in Newgale on a site by pebbles cafe where there are a lot of static caravans, been going for about 8yrs now but the season ended last weekend so have to wait now until Easter before the season starts again. Checked monks haven spear fishing as it’s less busy and my mate had a nice bass around 3lb. Normally dig lugworm then fish Newgale beach at night but started doing a lot more spinning this year.

Good wrasse mark in summer, but watch out for paddle boards, kayaks and divers!

Haven’t had wrasse here but plenty of pollack and bass! Divers love it here - was chatting with one a few weeks back who said we’d be surprised just how many big fish are in the area

Agree with you tried the swivel approach this weekend was annoying must admit when it went through the eyes so i slid a bead onto braid then tied swivel on so the bead acted as a stopper worked well.

Nice idea, definitely a good shout. I’ve found for me the modified Albright is the strongest over a swivel, but in all honestly it can depend on the size of the eyes. I’ll definitely give the method you said a go. Thank

@@bengriffithsseaangling2138 No worries I do intend to switch back to a double uni knot an just keep the 3ft flurocarbon leader on the spool convenient if anything. How did you find the 28g Savage gear panic prey v2 looks bloody huge I'm stuck as to go for the 16gor 28g what's your thoughts?

@@Kernow84 I found it’s a good lure, it’s more affordable than the other similar competitors, when I bought it it was anyhow! It has a nice top water action, especially when you use a walk the dog technique. That is the catch, it is a big lure! I have the 28g here and I do struggle to see a smaller bass taking it. On the other hand, are you looking to keep the fish or just for sport? As a starter, I’d perhaps say try the 16g, but you may lose casting distance. Note though, this lure does cast well for a top water lure!

@@bengriffithsseaangling2138 I'd be looking to target bass to take home to be honest but yes the 28g would allow me to cover more ground an considering I'm shore fishing like yourself might test both an see how it goes as I've never really done too much top water fishing.

Thanks Benjamin, nice video, I've subbed. I'm up the coast in Ceredigion, but have been down your way looking for marks I can fish when our water is too dirty. Any other marks?

Thanks for the comment. If you’re coming down from that way, I’d suggest trying Strumble head. Good ground for pollack, mackerel in summer and occasional mark. If you bottom fish there you can expect big conger, dogfish,bull Huss and bigger pollack and coal fish.
