After competing in the Pembrokeshire Bass Fishing Tournament, I spent another 3 days spinning for bass. It was an exhausting but exciting trip eventually covering 1600 miles and spending 5 nights sleeping (when in could) in my car. UK bass fishing at its best! This is a video from the last day where we fished an open beach before breakfast, deep water mark during the day and mixed ground mark in the evening.
I even managed to capture a bass hitting a topwater lure, that is still in development, with my drone. It's the first time I've seen such footage.

Fantastic vid Slippy ! I have family by Newgale beach in Pembroke and I tow my boat there every year and launch from Solva Harbour , stay a week or two keeping the boat on wet moorings in the harbour, never had a Bass but had some Stonking Mackerel , Pollock are small but fun, Gurnard to 1 lb only and some big Launce up to 8 oz ! great vid Slippy .

Ha, loved the comment "it would be nice to get it from the shore and not JUST the kayak" :) I was towed by a good bass on my Prowler earlier this year, not a million miles from Amble. Rare to find them but nothing scraps like a bass, and it's always nice to slip them back given how slow-growing they are. Great video !

@@SlippyLimpets you definitely need to spend a few days a bit further south around the quiet areas around whitby (before & after) there's some pretty big bass this way on and I know of one particular fish @15lbs caught literally 10 feet out on a miss cast and fluff up on a pearl white sasukes a few years back but over the course of a season it seems to produce bigger bass that a stones throw north 👍

Nice, I used to fish to exhaustion. Daiwa SP Minnows are the newer staple here, but a smaller Cotton Cordell or Gibbs pencil popper would be fun. If you know your bottom contours and have ample current, smaller darters would be interesting, as would bucktails. To target bigger fish, the calculation of mouth size to bait diameter seems to be a useful one for smaller striped bass. Darters are a fairly unique, fat bodied design, different in action, NOT the Yo-Zuri Mag Darter, which is a swimmer.

I'll have to check the darters out. You guys are normally a bit further ahead of us in terms of lures. Bucktails are only just gaining some traction here. RE lure size, some of my biggest fish have been landed on my smaller lures, could be luck I guess!!

@@SlippyLimpets Here is it the baitfish variety, profile and size that makes lure choice an issue sometimes. At beach lips, where sand fleas on the curl of the wave are always present, I have noticed that a darter has never been taken tail first by a striper for me. Even a small fish that will inhale an SP minnow tail first hasn't been as careless with darters, choking can happen for reptiles and fish. Militaries issue survival kits with bucktails in them. You can tie with marabou, Mylar, hackle feathers, essentially elaborate fly patterns on a lead head, great fun if you're feeling snobbish.

It's a weird sentimentality to a lure that you know has landed a good fish and shows the scars, but just have to tell my self a new version of the same lure will be the same great fish catcher!

Brilliant quality as per usual and I'm not sure where you were but I bet on its day the latter area could probably produce a stunning day's fishing👍 You know the 1st beach where you fished? What was the depth you were fishing into when you waded out?

All 3 marks have produced good catches over the years, but on the right tides. The beach I was fishing is really shallow, the fish I caught was probably about 3ft deep. 2nd hit, I waded out to about 4ft and cast as far as I could, maybe into about 10ft of water.

@@SlippyLimpets just shows that they are right under our noses and many people are casting right over them when using bait! At least when using lures you can cover much more ground and even if you have over cast you will eventually hit the feeding zone 👍

I absolutely love it. I initially wanted the SSD but couldn't wait for it to arrive in the UK so splashed the extra cash out on the TZ. I'm sure the SSD will be just as good
