I live in the northeast US and moved to Portugal last year. It really surprised me that people used lures for wrasse as in NY we only use bait. I will have to try using soft plastics when I get back!

Wrasse central out there lad. Not fished it but have plans to. Don't go in too light if after the Ballan they are big out there.

Wasin Anglesey yesterday on rock mark. No joy for 30 minutes chucking in straight out. Moved round the corner corner where there was a vertical rock face into the water. Reeled in and just before i lifted out, bang, a wrasse snapped at the lure but not enough to hook it. Tried again, and sure enough, same fish, same thing. The water was crystal clear so i could see it. The lure was a 5" wagtail, suspected it was maybe too big so i downsized to smaller spiners, plugs, basically anything I had that was smaller. No takers, swapped back the wagtail and first cast, same fish. How i catch it????

Must have resembled what it was feeding on. This happens quite often. I just dangle it over the side and very gently lift up and down until I feel the weight of the fish and set the hook. You could try dropshotting and a smaller bait.

Kastking Superpower in 20lb is what I use. It’s strong, knots well, very abrasion resistant and cheap.
