Hi Roy! I missed Kathryn’s talk because I was AT Lurie Garden on Saturday. How’s that for irony? My wife and I drove up from Cincinnati to visit the garden and Art Institute. On Sunday we drove up to Northwind. So much better in person than on KZbin! Truly an amazing pIace you have there. I picked up my Dutch push-pull hoe and about a dozen perennials (all that would fit in the trunk). Thanks so much for all you do.

This is a presentation I wanted to see in person, but couldn't make it. Thank you so much for always sharing these events on KZbin! So much useful information, plus I love visiting the Lurie Garden.

Was Laurie Garden designed to be one that is always being redesigned in differing areas, as this presentation discusses? If yes, isn’t it a very high maintenance and high cost garden, both in labor and money? Also, there are very few nurseries for the lay person where the plants used, are available. Roy, your selection of plants is certainly not the usual nursery offering anyplace within driving distance for me here in zone 5 in NY. Is the Lobelia siphilitica that Kathrine is using, not a plant that requires much more moisture than the other plants in that area? Does the garden have drip irrigation? I started Eringium planum from seed 2 1/2 years ago in January. This year it threw huge numbers of flowers which weighed the plant over and required staking. They are dotted around the garden and are about 5- 6 feet tall. Today is the day to pull most of them out. I hate their reality. Much better in theory for this garden. The hazy color is not enough for visual interest until you are right up to the plant. A waste of space in my garden. I enjoy listening to every presentation by a knowledgeable gardener even though everything said is basic common sense.
