Picard was stone cold here. He basically told the ladies "I know you're getting support from the Romulans" without saying it outright, sowing paranoia in the hearts of the sisters, all while being extremely polite and gentlemanly about it. What a class act.

TNG always had plenty of moments where its musical cues were just perfect for the moment on screen. 3:05, Picard gets up, verbally slaps and eviscerates the Sisters before departing. Then at 3:23 after Picard has departed, you're left with only the music and the facial expressions of the Sisters. Their final gambit at manipulation has failed - they now have no choice but to launch a war against Gowron for control of the Empire. The way the music dominates scene, with Lursa's clear consternation - you can tell at 3:28 when it came to scheming and making the decisions, Lursa was the more dominant, the leader! The music just captures the mood of the moment so perfectly, its something today so many shows completely overlook!!

Real Earl Gray Tea must be insanely expensive if you are tying to actually get real Earth-grown tea. Probably very little gets exported off Earth within the Federation, let alone to neighboring empires. I wonder if that from the replicator is really comparable to the real thing or whether for those who did not grow up on Earth, they would even know if there was a difference as it might be so rare, most have never even seen real tea leaves from Earth. They may have seen tea leaves raised on a plantation on a colony or in a greenhouse on some orbital station, but do those even have the same taste or are just approximate.

This is one of those scenes that took the idea of Klingons away from just being warrior brutes and into something far more subtle. Lursa and B'Etor were manipulators and political operatives of the first water. They knew that overt threats were NOT going to work here, and Picard was both intelligent and dangerous. They used reason, compromise, suggestion and the occasional distraction to try to influence and slightly unbalance Picard, all things that can work on him. At no time did they try to intimidate him, use threat of violence or behave in anything less than a civilized matter. They went as far as to discover his favorite drink and provide one he found acceptable. With all the causal threats, chest pounding, frat boy behavior, talk of "honor", drinking and acting like barely civilized grunts that we usually see with Klingons, here we get a completely different view of them...and that makes these two look all the more dangerous because of it.

A shame he wasn’t wearing the “Picard jacket” for this scene.

The tea is a straightforwardly good move. Klingons care deeply about honor. By making a decent cup of Earl Grey, they demonstrate respect for Picard. Very honorable.

Those 2 actresses had so much Charisma in this scene.

You've got to try a hell of a lot harder than that in order to slip one past Captain Jean-Luc Picard 😄
@askthepizzaguy Жыл бұрын
Mmm. And I thought it was a relatively good attempt. It's just that Jean Luc is incorruptible, so this wasn't ever going to work on him no matter how skillfully they played this move. A good try, I will say.

Since it's been on for decades, I'm sure The Simpsons has had at least one SciFi convention...I'd hope Patty and Selma would show up in Lursa and B'Etor cosplay!

It still ticks me off that of all the dangers this crew faced, these two Klingon sisters managed to destroy the Enterprise-D.

That movie sucked in a lot of ways lol.

In a ratty old bird of prey too. Especially criminal when you consider that at about the same time another galaxy class with ineffective shields was holding off 3 jem'hadar attack ships that were far more advanced then a bird of prey and it took one ramming the warp core to destroy it. Their ship should have been obliterated even with the shield advantage.
@TTony-tu6dm4 жыл бұрын
A completely ridiculous scene to serve the plot. If the Enterprise had cut lose with all phasers and torpedoes the BOP would have disintegrated no matter the shield situation. Riker suddenly forgetting the power of a galaxy class ship was just silly

@jdslyman they reused sets to save time and money. Only had 11 months to make the film. Studio has to Studio....
