I bought a set of these after seeing this review. This head is devastating to deer. I touched up the edge on mine out of the box and I really struggle with hand sharpening but was able to get a shaving sharp edge on the main blade and bleeders. In October I harvested a doe with one. The hit was lower 1/3 right behind the shoulder and went through the tip of the heart. She jogged off for 20 yds after being hit and just walked another 20 before collapsing and acted like she didn't even realize she was hit. I touched up the edge back to shaving sharp. Last week I hit a buck behind the shoulder just above the heart but double lung hit. He also took off in more of a jog for about 50-60 yds and came to a complete stop. He tried taking off again before collapsing. Same head for both deer after sharpening and no damage whatsoever. Full pass through on both with an excellent blood trail. I cannot recommend this broadhead enough and thank you as always for an excellent review.

@sheyanderson43715 ай бұрын
Lusk tests are the most comprehensive and best on KZbin. It would be interesting to add or even replace another medium in the durability portions with a box of compacted dirt. The mdf is decent in replicating penetration into something hard like bone, the steel is fun and great to see what solid holes they make, but I think shooting into compacted dirt would be a better real world durability test to broadheads. I have Annihilators and they performed very well in your testing, but me putting them into dirt and earth has eaten them up over the years. They could’ve been resharpened early on, but I just kept them as practice heads). Just an idea and appreciate all the time and effort. This VPA sure does look mean!
@LuskArcheryAdventures5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the thought. I’ve considered that, and sand, but one of the challenges is the lack of visibility with mechs, to see if they’ve opened or not. I wish I could find a medium that is more liquid based, to simulate an animal more than the friction based mediums I use.
@sheyanderson43715 ай бұрын
@@LuskArcheryAdventures DIdn't think of the visibility factor with dirt/sand, good point! I understand these tests take time and aren't cheap. I have always thought ballistics gel would be a good base for making organs with (lungs, liver, heart,) then having them setup in more of a jello base. Wooden dowels to simulate ribs, if testing deflection, or your mdf and mat layer would still be good for the outer box to hold it in. Just ideas, but we all appreciate the time and effort put into the testing. The current testing model isn't perfect, but it doesn't need to be. It's rare any of us get "perfect" hunting and shooting situations anyways.

Very cool head design. I might point out in your sharpness test it seems odd a head gets a 10 plus a bonus for being less than 200 on initial sharpness but gets a deduction on score for reduced sharpness even if it’s still under 200. Seems like the sharper an edge is the greater margin it will dull by initially so it’s kind of unfair to very sharp heads. Maybe there should be no deduction if the head is still under 200 after the edge retention test. Just food for thought. Keep up the good work!
@LuskArcheryAdventures5 ай бұрын
Not sure I follow you. When a head gets a 200 on initial sharpness, it gets a 10. If it takes 300 grams of force to cut, then it gets a 9. If it’s under 200, it gets a proportional bonus. For edge retention, if it takes an extra 50 grams to cut the wire, it gets a 9. 100 gets a 10. The grading of edge retention is proportional to the initial sharpness.
@benjamins77995 ай бұрын
How about an example. Let’s say we have a head with an initial sharpness of 150 and a post test sharpness of 200. The head gets a 10+bonus (9.5pts) for initial sharpness and a 9.5/10 (8.1pts) for edge retention for a total of 17.6pts. Then we take the same head and shoot it again. This time it goes from 200 down to 220. It gets a 10 with no bonus (9pts) for initial sharpness and a 9.6/10 (8.64pts) for edge retention for a total of 17.64pts. So the same head would score better the second time because it dulled less, despite being sharper initially on the first test.
@frankbrowning3285 ай бұрын
@@LuskArcheryAdventures Maybe what he's alluding to is that if a broadhead tests far under 200 at say 120 and then after the shot is still at under 200 it would then still be a 10 because it is still under 200, In other words if after shooting it is still under 200 then no penalty can be assessed for it becoming less sharp as it is still under the less than 200 standard. I can understand this, but I believe you made the test to show how well the edge is retained and resistance and this would violate your intention. What do you think?
@benjamins77995 ай бұрын
@@frankbrowning328 That is essentially what I’m getting at. Under 200 is still plenty sharp but the penalty a head gets for loosing its initial edge seems too high if it’s still a 10/10 on sharpness. But hey, it’s his channel and he can do what he wants. I certainly enjoy watching these videos and will continue to do so! I appreciate the response and all of your effort😊

@LuskArcheryAdventures2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the encouragement and the question, Mitchell. These are absolutely cut on contact heads. In addition to draw weight and bow/cam type, and broadhead design, your total arrow weight and draw length can also increase your momentum and penetration. But these heads penetrate quite well. With any lighter set up, shot placement becomes all the more crucial.
