Very nice Lustre-Creme spot from the early 1960s starring future "Partridge Family" actress Shirley Jones.

I love the hair stylist being in a suit. Any any studio he would be in a smock. Shirley Jones had a meteoric rise in film which she did not anticipate. But she was ready for it. Disciplined, focused, classic, a fine actress, a notable singer. Always on time, always knew her lines. What the public did not see was her great sense of humor and fun.

These are two 1961 Lustre-Creme spots {one :60, one :30), at the time Shirley was filming "The Music Man" (1962). The Lustre-Creme ads were famous for dozens of Hollywood stars [and starlets] endorsing the product- today, Colgate-Palmolive no longer manfactures it...

The women in the commercials were a lot prettier than today, generally speaking. They were feminine, didn't need to have tattoos, and other bodily mutilations. They weren't attracted to clothes with dirt and holes manufactured into them.

@reneecalling that's funny cause I saw some Breck shampoo at our dollar tree not long ago. Was Breck as good as Lustre Creme? I personally use Suave or Pantene Pro-V.

BRECK® Shampoo predates Lustre Créme and was invented by John H. Breck in 1930 it was the first Shampoo that was formulated for 'Types' of hair (Normal, Oily, Dry) and was a favorite of hairdressers at the time through the 1960's because it was non-drying to the hair and scalp. Lustre Créme, Halo, Prell , White Rain, Pamper, VO5 and Richard Hudnut slugged it out on the grocery store and drugstore shelves - Today only VO5 and White Rain are still around although Prell is still made it has become a "Bottom Shelf" item.

Thank you copernicus633 and slj27597 for your comments - I agree wholeheartedly. Women used to be feminine back in the day. Now many of them are as vulgar and rough as a lot of men. Of course nowadays if you make these type of comments many feminists will get their knickers in a twist. Just because a woman is feminine doesn't make them a pushover. I deeply love and respect women who are feminine and wish there were more women like this around today. Sad, very sad.

@@chrisn7259 I'm not saying everything was peaches and cream, but now we've gone the opposite extreme. The feminist movement started off with some laudable goals but then it got hijacked by extremists . These are the type of people who denigrate women who want to be housewives. These are the type of people who believe women MUST enter high pressure "macho" fields like business, politics, law, and the military to prove they can compete with men as opposed to entering "softer" fields like nursing and teaching. This is what I can't stand about the third wave feminists. It's turned today's women into a bunch of entitled, belligerent, strident individuals. And no I'm not against women (or men) speaking their minds or being assertive, but there's a HUGE difference between being assertive and aggressive and in my opinion too many people nowadays don't know the difference, especially today's feminists. These people want to turn the world into some nightmarish Harrison Bergeron socialist dystopia where all differences are swept under the rug or quashed entirely. This is another thing I can't stand about the far Left in general and the new feminists in particular. They also feel that traditional notions of femininity are something to be disparaged. What these banal, insipid imbeciles don't realize (or seem to have forgotten) is that this is a Yin Yang thing. You need the feminine and the masculine to balance each other. To give a concrete example - if you have a SEAL having a tea party with his 5 year old daughter and her teddy bears you want him to exhibit a tender side not being macho. Thats what being a self-actualized person is all about - exhibiting the appropriate balance of psychological characteristics under the appropriate circumstances. Today's feminists don't do that - it's all macho all the time. They're cardboard cut outs - caricatures which will hopefully go extinct at some point but I'm not holding my breath.

"Right now I'm going into studio hairdressing for my daily shampoo with Lustre-Creme." Well, no, not really. You might well be at the Warner Bros. studio, but you're actually on a set with a parked car and a fake facade.
