When I was a boy I used to sit with my mom and we would listen to Luther Vandross music. She was divorced from her second husband who abused her mentally and physically and when I was a teenager, she met a black bricklayer from Harvey, IL, and they fell in love. No one congratulated them, but I was the only witness at their wedding in Markham courthouse (I have to edit this, because I do remember he had two sisters that were there too). He asked me for my blessing to marry my mom the first time I met him and I saw he loved her dearly, she felt so safe with him and he could put up with her wild side, taming her just enough to settle down with him until her death in 2012. He died of heartbreak a year later in 2013. He got to hold our son John before that. I listen to this song now on Mother's day, missing my mom and Danny, a great man, both of them are in Heaven with Yeshua (Jesus), no pain, no tears, no sadness. Blessings, and Shalom, Stephen

I'm glad to hear that your Mom finally found a good man that treated her right. I spent my early Grade school years in the Harvey/Posen/Markham/Midlothian, Illinois area too. Those were the best years of my life back in the early Sixties (60's). I was there visiting family in September 2023. Things have changed a lot. Lots of new homes and growth.

This song came to my mind this morning after praying, and as I listened to it, the tears dropped like rain from my eyes just thinking about how much the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit love me! All the dangers that He saved me from, that could have come my way. All the bad things that did come my way, but He pulled me through them, all the while working them together for my good, be it to teach me, to grow me, to reshape me, to re-direct me at times when I strayed, so that I would return my focus to Him and His instructions as to what He wants me to achieve in this life. To strengthen me, or to prepare me for something greater. And then there’s the daily bread that He gives me. The people that He has put in my life who love me, and who I love back. All the times that He has forgiven me. Even when I mess up, He is still there with His loving arms open to me. Ready to hold me, listen to me, and receive my one millionth apology in repentance, without shaming me or shunning me. Like a parent watching a child learn to walk, He is encouraging, comforting and patient! And not to forget, the existence and availability of His unchanging word and His undying promises to guide me. What a lover God is! And what is so wonderful about Him, is that He loves us all just the same and just as much. This is the perfect devotional song. I listen to it removing all references to “girl”, and insert God. I’d follow Jesus Christ to the moon and the stars above! His love is SO AMAZING! 🥹❤️✝️

I saw Luther Vandross in 1988 when he opened for Anita Baker in Illinois. However, it was stated that Anita out sung Luther. Actually, Luther simply did his thing. That night I fell in love with Luther Vandross! I will never forget his beautiful blue jacket and how graceful he was on the stage while singing “A house is not a home”. I remember as a young boy listening to Luther Vandross vein played by my mother. I loved listening to his music the sense of peace and joy his music brought to my household was beyond amazing. I also remember being in Maryland at my aunt and uncles house hearing about him passing on the radio. I came inside and told my mother and she was shocked in disbelief like the rest of my family members. Fast forward 19 years later my father in law played this song on his saxophone at my wedding for my wife and I. This song brings tears to my eyes because of the amount of joy it brings to my heart.
