Good suggestions. One other reason to decrease the PSI at the spray gun is to allow maximum air flow. You can move more air at high pressure than at low pressure. This would be important for an HVLP gun.

Thanks again for being a great resource Chris! I'm gonna get some tools and spray some Crystalac :)

One thing to mention is that there are several types of quick connectors. Industrial (M-style), ARO (A-style), Automotive (T-style), V-style and a weird one called a Lincoln style. Just be aware when ordering online that all your connectors are the same. I've ran into this issue before. I believe the industrial M-style is whats usually sold at the box stores but there can be automotive or T-style. My Dad was a mechanic for years and has automotive connectors and they wouldn't work on my set up because i have industrial.

That's a very good point. I thought about mentioning this, but I wanted to keep the video from getting too long and since most people will only have access to the industrial connector, I opted to keep it simple. Thanks!

yes, I got a set up based on the old videos on Highline and have a box of various connectors I may use someday but would not work with sprayer.

I tested and compared standard quick couplers to the newer high flow couplers. There was a huge difference between them. Some of the standard fittings choked the air down like a restrictor plate. The high flow couplers are like a straight piece of pipe.

It all depends what you're powering with the compressor. If you use auto tools, that makes a lot more sense. For the spray it shouldn't really matter.

For those interested, Lowes has a sale on some Kobalt High Flow Fittings. I purchased a few packs and they are pretty nice. Will see how they hold up.

Hey Chris. I think at one point you were using an Earlex 5500…. (Or did I dream that). Was it any good for wb finishes on a guitar (versus say a Fuji q3)

Just curious, do you use plumbers tape on the threads of all the couplers on your air hose or is it not worth the trouble?

Yes I do.

@@HighlineGuitars OK. Thanks for the response. I just bought a new compressor and all of the extras. I'll put some on my new air hose today. Thanks again!
