Okay so I have probably seen a good 6-8 videos about this subject and your basically the only one who helped the most. Most only focus on cfm, which I learned about for the first time in one of those videos, but you actually explain and give tips on how it works. I hadn't thought about the hose length either. I just want to be able to fix a car scratch. It's too bad air tools req so much, would be fun to use those. Anyway, thank you.

Hi Brad. Another option I have found for guys wanting to do small projects ie painting guitar bodies is to use an lvlp spray gun instead of hvlp. I have an 8 gallon compressor and it works great

That’s a good suggestion to save some money, but Lvlp guns certainly don’t perform like hvlp guns if you want to be able to lay down a few nice smooth coats of clear for example.

Another cheat is to pressurize your tank at say 100psi and then regulate back down at your gun. That 100 psi in the tank compresses much more volume than the 25 psi you are using. This effectively makes your tank 4X larger.

That depends on the horsepower and cfm ratings, not just the tank size. 8 gallons is a moderate/small tank size.

I recently begun to build my first bass, and I was looking for videos about clear coating, and your videos came up. All of your videos are so good and informative that I have gladly subscribed and your content is always helpful. I was going to use SprayMax 2K, but I found out that it contains isocyanates, and since they can't be filtered out and I don't have a supplied air mask, I decided that it wasn't worth it. Instead I went with a product called Maxx Clear that was pretty awesome, but it came out way too heavily from my airless gun. Now I am looking to see what kind of compressor that I can find to run an HVLP gun in my shed-converted-to-a-wood-shop so that I don't have to bring out my bigger compressor from my garage. And look whose video came up when I searched? Once again, I feel like I am better informed. Thanks again and keep up the good work, because I'll keep watching!

I got an issue I'm looking for help with. I have an Iwata LPH-80 1.2mm (E4 cap) Hvlp mini gun spraying at the Iwata recommended 14 PSI. I'm running off a small 1HP compressor that says its rated for 4cfm @40PSI. When I test spray some water through it I get the full 5.5inch fan pattern but when I put paint in it (properly reduced to paint manufactured specs) my fan pattern shrinks significantly to about 3.5 - 4 inches (wide open fluid and fan). Any ideas why this is happening? Is my compressor not supplying enough CFM to push the paint out properly?

Can you please clarify something at the 3:30 mark ? Assuming my compressor lacks the cfm BUT I have a 5 gallon tank. Can I use a spray gun to 2K coat a helmet or guitar sized object with just the air in the tank ? (Time between coats the compressor would refill the tank). Thank you :)
@BradAngove
@BradAngove 4 жыл бұрын
Probably. The compressor will continue to run to try to keep up, and the tank will hold some air in reserve to assist it of course. I haven’t done the math specifically though.

What spray gun do you recommend that is cheap?
@BradAngove
@BradAngove 6 жыл бұрын
Spray gun preferences are largely subjective. As you may have seen, I’m now a big fan of the Warwick guns. The 904 is their cheaper full sized gun, and my demo for the 878 (mini gun) comes out Wednesday. If you have a look at one of my recent paint gun demo videos, I include a website in the description for purchasing them, as well as a discount code to get you 10% off.

with the gravity guns of now a days u can get away with a small air compressor, but with the old school guns, like the siphon guns most likely you would need a big compressor, so there u have it in a nut shell.
@BradAngove
@BradAngove 6 жыл бұрын
That depends on the gun. The modern hvlp guns run at lower pressures, but still require large volumes of air. Hence the acronym. Large volumes generally require relatively large compressors, so I’m going to have to disagree with your summary. Lvlp guns can run on small compressors. They aren’t very good for things like clear coating though.

It depends on the size of the motor and it’s ability to keep up with the demands of the gun. 10 gallons isn’t all that big, but if the compressor puts out a ton of air then you don’t need too much air storage.
