Thanks Bob! I’m always excited when these cold spells break but then that usually means more snow is in the way haha. Have a great day!

Thanks Bryan. Snow looks a lot better on KZbin! We are supposed to be 10 next couple of nights and then warm back up to the 20s for lows. Stay warm.

Sounds like you are getting the same cold front we are. Snows pretty to look at but it gets old after awhile. Hope you and your family are doing well!

Hope you keep ahead of the chores with all the cold weather coming. Your lost cows almost have to be in someone's heard or dead is there any chance they crossed over a saddle on the summer range and are mixed with a heard that winters a long way from you? NW Illinois has had normal temps but no accumulated snow ground is fairly dry frost goes very deep in these conditions. Calving in 3 weeks won't be much of that mud you don't like . Stay warm and safe hope you find those cattle.
@LuthiRanchWY3 күн бұрын
They could have wondered a long ways over into a different community but we haven’t heard anything about them. I don’t think we should have to worry about much mud calving this year, at least I hope not.

Good heavens, those temperatures you showed us sure puts my winter griping in perspective! Y'all's snow is so beautiful though. I really appreciate you telling us what hay is what. The only other rancher I watch who does that only feeds one type, so it's really interesting to hear about the different types and what they're for. Also (city girl question incoming) I've heard of a _flake_ of hay, is that what you were breaking off to toss down to the cows?
@LuthiRanchWY2 күн бұрын
Good question, yes a flake of hay is the pieces you see me separating off the bale and throwing to the cows. I’m glad to hear you find our videos interesting!

We have a Artic Blast coming tonight and supposed to freeze in a day or two so we will be feeding some good hay today. Good luck, and hope you have a great day.
@LuthiRanchWY3 күн бұрын
How often do you guys get a freeze down there, also how often do you have to feed hay?

@@LuthiRanchWY lately it seems like every year, when in the past once every 10-15 years. Things are changing for sure. Due to no rain or irrigation water we have been feeding weekly for several months. Grass isn't dead but not growing fast enough so we supplement some.
@LuthiRanchWY3 күн бұрын
Hopefully you start getting some moisture soon!

@@LuthiRanchWY We have had some. Not much but we will take it.

Don't know if I missed it! Any luck on the cows and calfs missing. No short of moisture for spring. Have you ever seen the elk pushing the cattle off their feed after you put bales out for them?
@LuthiRanchWY3 күн бұрын
No luck finding the cows yet. I should have updated everyone in this video. I’ve never had elk push the cows off the hay. We’ve only ever dealt with the elk that one year though luckily.

Had -20 this morning calling for -24 Tuesday morning here in Colby Wisconsin. Cows were pretty frosty looking this morning. Is it pretty easy to get scheduled at your butcher shop? Getting easier here, couple years ago there was a 6 month waiting list
@LuthiRanchWYКүн бұрын
It’s gotten easier but I still need to plan ahead at least 3-4 months. I have reoccurring spots every year I’ve signed up for. A couple years ago if you didn’t have spots beforehand it was almost a year wait. We are supposed to be a bit warmer tomorrow but we will see it already says it’s -14, we saw -39 this morning. I imagine you guys are pretty used to the cold temps in Wisconsin.
