I spent 7 years as a delivery driver for Gordon Food Service in Canada and we endured some harsh winters doing this. I'm showing this to people to try to explain the daily grind. Good job! My top advice to newer drivers: always plan how to utilize the space in your trailer. Never lift a box twice, unless you have to! If you lift things twice, you essentially double your workload.
@LuthiRanchWY2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and sharing! I always hated delivering in winter. Having to deal with the roads but mostly for having to try drag your hand truck through the snow and ice. And customers that wouldn’t shovel to their delivery entrances. What do you do now for work?

Good video man. Hats off to you for bustin out the stops. This will be my 20th year a Sysco of Central Pa. I think in my 20 years I've gone out 9 times with over 20 stops. Your average stops per day is crazy. I'm not in drop yard so I'm usually in 42' trailer. I avg 15 stops 900 cs/day, usually 45 hrs a week. We r rivals but doing the same hard job. Good luck to u my brother. Never stop learning tips from other drivers to make ur day easier. My tip...get rid of those handcart brakes. My cart is as light as possible. Be safe
@LuthiRanchWY3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Ya we have a lot of stops up here, I mostly deliver to a town called Jackson Hole and it’s a tourist trap so there’s restaurants and hotels all over the place no chain accounts so almost everything is mom and pop. So lots of stops and I don’t usually have more than 900 cases. I run into Sysco all the time up here and know all the drivers by name and have their phone numbers haha we all help each other out. Thanks for the tip! I’m already a head of you on that though because that is one of the first things I do if I get a new handcart is take the brakes off, I feel the same way I just like it being as light as possible and those brakes are kind of sketchy anyway haha. Congrats for doing 20 years! Thats impressive! I don’t know if I want to do this for 20 years. You stay safe also.

At Sysco we have pallet Jack's and lift gates so the dry and cool is separate since we can move pallets to one side of the trailer to access our freezer. This is probably the best video on food service I’ve seen! I used to work for Reinhart(now Performance) but I was a box truck driver(trying to get my CDL) and those fuckers had me in a 20 ft box truck having to move 250-500 cases a day. Needless to say, the word nightmare was a delicate way to describe how my loads were…. I had NO room in the back of that truck to do anything and my pallets were fucked…. I started as a van driver for 6 months then moved into a box truck for 2 years. That job and company was BY FAR the worst 2 1/2 years of my life! All just trying to get my CDL man…. After all that time, they still wouldn’t give me a shot so I left. I went into beer delivery and it’s been almost 6 months. I got my Class A finally with this company! But… I’m on the fence whether I want to stay or go elsewhere… the money isn’t bad, but man, having to not only merchandise the product but also deal with 150-180 lbs kegs going into basements and TINY ass coolers fucking SUCKS! And some places have traps you have to use…. Requires two peoples and you basically have to catch the barrels when the other person sends them down…. It’s fucking crazy! Then… if you’re not careful… smashing your fingers in-between those barrels while moving them is HORRIBLY painful! I will say if there’s ONE thing I miss about food service… it was just dropping the shit and leaving. I have Kwik Trips on some of my routes with beer and sometimes they get over a 100 cases and I have to merchandise all of it… I need 6-12 months of experience to get into no-touch freight and I’m debating on getting back into food service for that experience and then moving on….
@LuthiRanchWY2 жыл бұрын
That was nice about food was just dropping your loads in the walk in or dry room. I’m not with US Foods anymore. I’m with Old Dominion doing LTL freight now a lot easier on your body and pretty much everything comes off on pallets

@@LuthiRanchWY would you recommend US Foods? How often were your loads bad? I applied to US Foods local to me yesterday. They’re currently paying more than I’m making with beer and they have a $15k signing bonus right now… which tells me that they’re probably desperate for help and it’s not the most fun place to work right now… but if it’s between merchandising(really kissing ass) accounts or breaking down pallets of food, I think I’d rather break down pallets of food… considering with beer, we still have to break down the pallets at the accounts to take them in, have them checked in, and then merch them…🤦🏻♂️

@LuthiRanchWY2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I’m pretty sure you can take hands free phone calls but I’m pretty sure they have a no tolerance policy when it comes to texting and driving. The driver facing cameras only save the recording if you set the camera off by slamming on the breaks too hard, hitting bumps, running stop lights etc. I’m not too sure on the policy for eating and drinking I know they don’t approve of it but I’m not sure on how hard they come down on you If you get caught. I’m sure they will tell you about all this when you go through orientation.
