Weirdly, Harford actually grew up a Sunderland fan, but still chose to play a part in getting them relegated. He also turned down the chance to join Man Utd a few months after this (seriously), preferring to rejoin Luton. Interesting career choice...

And the following season he equalized against Man Utd late in the season to make them drop more points and continue their slump that allowed Leeds to clinch the title.

He never turned united down, he was never told about utd, I'm watching him now on the under the cosh podcast, that's why I've searched this goal, and him stamping on Watford players celebrating a goal

The table at the start doesn't make sense. Sunderland had played Arsenal on 4th May and got a point. They were playing their last game of the season against Man City on 11th May whilst this match was taking place at Kennilworth road. Sunderland would have needed a win and Luton to lose... as Luton had scored more goals (LT: 40-61 -21 34pts SUN: 36-57 -21 33pts) going into the final weekend. Sunderland lost their game 2-3 to City...

It's a plastic pitch so this isn't a true representation of English football at this particular time.

Yeah, Luton got promoted with Watford in 1982. Whereas Watford could only stay 6 seasons and won nothing (as usual), Luton stayed 10 and won the League Cup/Littlewoods Cup). Of course, Watford have since returned to Wembley for an FA Cup Final, but they really would have been better taking up seats in the stand for all the good they did... joint record defeat in an FA Cup Final 0-6
