This was an incredible match. I was at Anfield a few days earlier to watch a dramatic 4-3 victory against Nottingham Forest. I didn't think that this one would top the excitement of that game but it did. Luton had three goalies during the game, only one of whom was a proper keeper. To get a draw in those circumstances against a Liverpool team who swept all before them that season was incredible. By the end, many of us didn't want to win because it would have been really unfair on Luton. The point they gained was vital and kept them up at the end of the season.

Luton were just pure all out attack on those days, you just didn't know what to expect from them at times. Fully deserved their league cup win though

I was in the Anfield road end with my dad for this season, because Dad and Lad joint tickets were a fiver for both of us! This was one of those early season pantomime games when everything went crazy and defending went out of the window! I remember being impressed with Paul Walsh and Brian Stein.

I was taken by my auntie's boyfriend at the time to Liverpool to visit his Auntie, or so I thought. It wasn't until we got right outside the stadium and he handed me a scarf did I know I was going to watch my heroes.

This was one of them totally oddball games that occasionally occurred at Anfield back in the day jjust like Liverpool v Ipswich Town in 1985. At that game both sets of fans cheered each others teams and booed their own with Ipswich fans chanting Liverpool and Liverpool fans chanting Ipswich and Ipswich fans celebrating Liverpool goals whilst Liverpool fans remained quietly subdued. Sadly there is no footage of that game due to a strike going on at that time with tv broadcasters that left the UK with no football on tv either live or pre-recorded. If any footage exists/existed it would be footage recorded by the club themselves which wasn't unknown at that time but which is not so common today with all of the video available from mainstream tv.

Luton's goalie Findlay was injured, Kirk stephens conceded the second goal and another player conceded the third one. Only one substitution was allowed in those times. Great show by Luton though.

Findlay went off injured in the first half and full back Kirk Stephens went in goal and as the previous poster states, he also conceded. At the start of the second half Mal Donaghy came out in goal and conceded one. I seem to remember something similar with 3 keepers occurred in a more recent Bundesliga match. #COYH

Didnt the Luton goalkeeper go off injured in this game? Took a goal kick and collapsed holding his side if I remember.

Good stuff from Luton getting a draw at Anfield, and with 3 different keepers.

Not many teams took anything away from Anfield back then so to score 3 was a good away day
