I'm from the south. My grandmother use to make them with red skin potatoes and we can eat them throughout the day hot or cold.

Thanks for the recipe. I am from Rochester and love Salt Potatoes. I have thought about trying these little potatoes for them. I will give these a try.

Oh my gosh I just stumbled upon your channel and am in heaven! I grew up in VT and my Mom made salt potatoes, they were amazing. I have not had them in many years and watching your video has made me crave them now. I live in Scotland now and so I seldom have food I grew up eating. My hubby makes salt crusted potatoes occasionally where he uses big baking potatoes. He mixes a load of salt with an egg white that he has whisked until it begins to go frothy. He then mixes it all in well with the salt and you want the salt to be like wet sand at the beach. He grabs some parchment paper, lays a layer of the salt on the parchment, then adds the potato, if he is being fancy, he will add some fresh herbs like thyme, rosemary, or even some winter savory onto the potato before piling the wet Sandy salt over the potato, sealing it tightly, and he makes it quite thick. Then he bakes it in the oven for a good 70-90 minutes depending on how big each potato is. The salt crust will go dark in color as it cooks. People freak out when they see the amount of salt he uses, thinking the potato will be extremely salty but it is not. So he lets it sit resting for a little bit while he finishes whatever else he is cooking as the salt holds the heat as will the potato. You use a soon or fork and crack the salt crust and pull the potato from the crust, quickly peel it as baking potato skins are too thick to eat cooked this way. It is delicious but nowhere near as delicious as salt potatoes! Thank you for reminding me if my childhood! ❤️ wishing you and your loved ones a very Happy Thanksgiving! Recipe developed in the Syracuse NY area. All the salt mines there this made for an affordable dish. In fact this dish is often referred to as Syracuse salt potatoes.

Here in Syracuse we eat these with steamed clams so we dip the clams in the butter as well

You don’t have to rinse them after cooking? You are still getting all that salt taste by just draining and dipping them in butter as they are coated in all that salt!?

It's really not that much that ends up on it. I buy them with the bag of salt included but only use 1/ to 1/2 the amount of salt and it comes out great.

Salt does make the water boil sooner than without that's for anything boiled
