I'm not a big potato eater (unless they're sweet potatoes), but I literally just bought my 1st ever bag of small, mixed colored potatoes from Costco the other day without a plan for them. I am really excited to make these, they look delicious thanks!

I live about 90 minutes from Syracuse and these Salt Potatoes are a summer time staple here!! You can buy potatoes with a huge salt packet together in the bag of potatoes. When served,.each person gets a little dish of butter or a ladle of butter poured over them. 🤤🤤

I hope I get to go to Syracuse someday to try the authentic ones!!! Sounds amazing!

Excited to try these! I wonder how it would be if you replaced half (or all) the water with white vinegar, to make salt and vinegar potatoes.

This recipe is similar to a traditional recipe from the Canary Islands called papas arrugadas (con mojo). Simple deliciousness.

If I use less potatoes, should I use less salt?
@sallygreenfield69916 ай бұрын
The amount of salt is more dependent on how much water you need. I'm sure if you google it, you can find a ratio.

Real salt potatoes are their own special variety. You can cook new potatoes in salt, but they won't taste quite the same and be as creamy as authentic salt potatoes

“What kind of potatoes are salt potatoes?** Salt potatoes are typically made using small, round, waxy potatoes known as New Potatoes. These potatoes have a thin skin and a high moisture content, which allows them to absorb the salt and retain their shape during cooking. New Potatoes are harvested early in the season, before they have fully matured. These young potatoes have a creamy texture, making them an excellent choice for boiling. While the specific variety of New Potato used can vary, the most common ones for salt potatoes are usually varieties like Yukon Gold, Red Bliss, or Kennebec.”

Actually sounds quite good - doc just asked me to cut my sodium intake, so not a recipe I can try. But wishing those who have no restrictions a great tasty treat!

I love Dr. Berg on KZbin. He has a lot of great videos on high blood pressure (if that’s the issue) and says the issue isn’t salt intake but potassium deficiency. I just mention this because my mother in law is going through the same thing and since she cut out salt she’s getting terrible leg and foot cramps. ❤

Good lord lady. You don’t have one single clue. The single most important factor for salt potatos is the ratio of salt to water. NO you don’t just fill it up to cover the potatoes. That’s a huge variable depending on how many potatoes you are using. It’s one cup of salt to 6 CUPS OF WATER. This is the biggest flaw with KZbin. Anyone can make a video and say anything no matter how wrong and ridiculous it is and others will blindly go along with it. Also to use one of those dumb Instapots is just beyond lame. If you can’t put potatoes, salt and water in a simple pot on your stove then you have no business setting foot in a kitchen. This is just ridiculous.

Good lord…it’s KZbin, not a gourmet cooking school. I, for one, do not have a stovetop in my current home so yes, I use an instant pot for many things that could be done the “traditional” way. Some comments on KZbin continue to be ridiculous.
