Thanks for this. Ive been using Retros on a couple guitars, I'm going to try these out and see how they compare. Also great touch, playing. So many interesting trills, bends, vibratos, dynamics, very nice!

I echo your comment, as my biggest question is how do these differ from the Retro (Monel) string set. I'll have to get a set for comparison. I've noticed they are significantly more expensive. It would also be interesting to compare these to the D'addario Nickel Bronze set.

I would like to hear a side-by-side with these new strings compared to say Martin phosphor strings

I am taking the Luxe strings off my J-45 after one week. The low tone is great, however, they are noticeably more abrasive than the Elixer Nanoweb or D'Addario XS strings. I also found them more difficult to install as they are very stiff.

Good review and info. While I use Martin Life Lite PBs on most of my guitars, I do Use Martin Retros on my 1969 D18, so after your review, I will try the Kovar strings next. While the Retros are nice, warm, easy to play, it looks like the Kovar will add a tad of brightness. Thank you.

@@roloah27 I thought that the Kovar strings were too bright sounding for my taste. Their playability is much like the Retro Monel strings - easy on the fingers.
