It's fun to compare different preferences and values in apartment hunting. When I saw the square footage of the apartment you picked, it became "not for me" instantly but for you it fit what you value. Glad you found what you want!
@MeaganIsHere Жыл бұрын
It’s so funny you say that! When my broker told me about the apartment, he said it was a studio. Because I had seen so many excellent one bedrooms, I immediately told him no and that I didn’t think it was worth viewing. He convinced me to check it out anyway. The moment I walked in and saw the city views, amenities, and location, I knew I had to take it! I shocked myself because I’m usually not one to change my mind once I make a decision. Thanks so much for watching and commenting! ❤️

I feel sorry for the older units in west New York and Weehawken because when they were built it was considered very modern and luxury years ago. Unfortunately new buildings started popping up left and right and they can no longer complete as far as luxury. But being some of the first buildings they do have the perfect locations.
@MeaganIsHere2 жыл бұрын
You’re ABSOLUTELY right. The original buildings were landmarks in the area and were definitely considered modern and luxurious when they were built. I witnessed a lot of those buildings being built when I first moved to the east coast. I still think those buildings are nice and many of them are meticulously maintained. To your point, it’s impossible for those buildings to compete with the MANY new developments (Riverhouse 9 and 11, RiverTrace, the Capstone, Estuary, etc.) in the area. I noticed that 2 of the older buildings in Port Imperial have recently been demolished to make way for new developments…yikes! It’ll be interesting to see how that whole area (and Edgewater once the superfund site(s) gets developed) in the years to come. Thanks for watching and providing feedback! ❤️

@MeaganIsHere Жыл бұрын
I’m so glad you liked the video! I absolutely LOVED living in Edgewater. This was actually my 2nd time living in Edgewater. The neighborhood is upscale and there are so many great restaurants and shops nearby. I’m not sure if you have a car or not, but the neighborhood is very walkable. Honestly, Jersey City is hit or miss. I prefer the Grove Street and Newport areas of Jersey City. There’s a good amount of things to do there and the proximity to Manhattan via the PATH train is A++. Exchange Place area is really nice visually, but you might find it boring. The Journal Square neighborhood (just my opinion) still has a long way to go. I didn’t find the surrounding area pleasant or particularly safe. The commute is easy from the Journal Square PATH train, but honestly, that’s the only positive. I don’t care for the Bergen-Lafayette section and Greenville is a 100% no for me. So yea! Try to see if you can snag a place in Newport or Grove Street areas. Exchange Place is good too. All other areas of Jersey City are still in transition…which may or may not work for you. Thanks for watching!! ❤️

I tried to be somewhat discreet but I guess if you know you know 😉! The commute via the NJ transit bus (159R, 158, 156R) has been averaging me about 23-24 minutes to/from Port Authority Bus Terminal on 42nd St and 8th Ave. The fastest I’ve made the trip was 18 minutes. I hate Port Authority (it’s old, dirty, sketchy, and falling apart 😭) but the commute is extremely reasonable. Thanks so much for watching!
@jtzimm2332 жыл бұрын
@@MeaganIsHere Yeah that Port Authority life is not for me, haha, but that same apartment close to the ferry or the Path would have set you back at least another grand a month. @@jtzimm233 that Port Authority life isn’t for the weak 😂! You’re spot on! A better commute would have set me back at least $1000, and it just wasn’t worth it to me. We visited a lot of the same places, but looking for a 2 bedroom. The Modern was CRAZY small…my current couch wouldn’t even come close to fitting in the living room and basically your kitchen, LR and dining room all part of one teeny tiny room plus zero closet space. Plus, have to pay $250/mo for parking + amenities fee of about $75/mo. Hard PASS for me. I am assuming you decided on the place that starts with an “O” (dont want to give away your location). Very nice but also very tiny 2 bedroom w limited closet space. But great views. In the end, we decided on a duplex which has a ton of room, but no real views.

Between NYC and NJ where do you think is the better place for me and my roommate to live? (financially and opportunity wise) I’d really appreciate your advice 🥹🥹
@MeaganIsHere Жыл бұрын
Hey Victoria, did you end up finding a place? I think it ultimately depends on where you work and where you will spend most of your time. NJ is overall a much better deal. You can get a nice apartment with amenities for a fraction of what NYC would cost. You need to factor in the commute. If you can find a nice place in NJ that's close to the PATH train, you should highly consider it. If the NJ apartment is near the bus, keep in mind that you will need to catch the bus at Port Authority on 42nd and 8th. I'm not gonna even lie, that commute can get old REALLY fast. The bus ride is quick but the process of going through Port Authority can be annoying. If you can't find a place in NJ by a PATH stop, try looking for a place in Weehawken, Union City, or West New York. All of those towns offer very quick commutes to NYC.

Excellent location----across from Manhattan-------. The apartments are noticeably less than Manhattan and quite nice with some luxury.
@MeaganIsHere2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom! Yes, the location is amazing! Every single apartment I viewed in NJ had at least an amenity or 2 and many had great views. This is my 3rd apartment in NJ and honestly, I can’t imagine going back to NYC living. I’m saving $600/month on rent, plus I’m no longer getting the NY city tax deducted from my paycheck. For me, the move across the River was a no brainer! Thanks so much for watching, Tom! 💙

Very interesting video and I truly loved many of the apartments you visited. We moved from NYC over 25 years ago (before 9/11 happened) and I don't regret it. We're on the cliffs right above Hoboken and have a long Terrence with a panoramic view of the Hudson River and NYC - right across from the Empire State Building. The only pet-peeve I have is that it's an older building with none of the amenities you mentioned but it's rent controlled. I have three BR's, 2 baths and indoor parking 15 minutes from Manhattan, so I guess what I pay is worth it because in Manhattan my same apartment would easily rent for over $3,500, I pay much less and with the influx of New Yorkers coming over, what I pay is a bargain, Lol
@MeaganIsHere Жыл бұрын
Excuse me?!?!? You live in a rent controlled building?!? WOW!!! I looked at a few places on the hill in West New York, but I quickly decided I wanted a building with amenities. You’re in an amazing location and what a great deal $$$!!!

Why having a doorman is important? Is it about safety?
@MeaganIsHere Жыл бұрын
Great question! Yes, it’s about safety and also doorman can usually sign for your packages and deliveries while you’re away.

Hey Dennis! Very true but NYC is out of control right now. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever experienced and I’ve been in NYC since 2005. Where I’m living now in Bergen County is not having anywhere near the same issues that NYC is having. Statistically, I am better off outside of the city… at least for now. Nonetheless, thanks for watching and leaving feedback!

Hello. My sincere advice to you is to demonstrate more of the content (apartments in this case) and less of yourself, if you want to get a popularity as a youtuber. There are so many videos on KZbin and the audience is becoming more and more selective when it comes to quality content.
