In real life that’s in very bad taste. Negotiate for sure, but unless you want it

@@jenniferbee1500 True, its a shit move to negotiate the price down and then not taking it
@sketchyhoe7796
@sketchyhoe7796 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it’s a shit move. She negotiated, it still wasn’t where she wanted it to be, so she backed out. It’s called knowing your worth. She knew something was better out there for her, and for probably way less money, and she was right.... right? She absolutely did the right thing. Plus, I don’t think the people who’re renting it out care. Apartments go real quick. Real real which. Someone probably rented that very apartment she backed out that same exact day. Kudos to her!
@jenniferbee1500
@jenniferbee1500 3 жыл бұрын
@@sketchyhoe7796 It's considered tacky if you negotiate to a fair price point that you're happy with and then back out. For example, I'm selling a tv for $200. You want it for $150. If I agree to $150 and then you back out, that is in bad taste. If you don't really want it, don't waste anyone's time. This is basically universal law adults follow.
@sketchyhoe7796
@sketchyhoe7796 3 жыл бұрын
@@jenniferbee1500 to an extent, I agree. Never waste anyone’s time. But you never know what someone’s going through. What if something occurred to where she absolutely had to back out? You never know. Also, a home or an apartment is a huge purchase. Not something anyone should buy irrationally of speedy.

Apartment hunting in NY was one of the most stressful times in my life. My husband and I just moved from Miami, and although we wanted to initially be living in NY as we are both chefs and will be working in the city anyway, thus making it more convenient, it just wasn’t going to work out. We have a car and we’re also used to having laundry in-unit, and with the amount of laundry we do (uniforms), it’s a must. The prices (we also were in the $2-2.5k range but lower is always better!) were semi-doable but obviously not with all what we need. The last thing I want to do after a 10-12hr shift is walk-up five flights of stairs. And open the door to a shoebox. And then walk back down to do 2 loads of laundry. And move our car because it’s street sweeping day. Then again tomorrow. We ended up moving to West New York, NJ as our non-negotiables were all met (laundry in-unit, dedicated parking, rent below $2k) and it’s only 20 minutes by bus.

Finding a place in any large American city is horrible now days.Seattle and San Francisco are torture tests. You think you have appointments with psychotic managers and no one shows up. That is standard. You pay $3 a square foot, first and last rents, and a damage deposit that you will never get back. Once you are in you can expect 7% rent increases every year which is the most that can be without 6 month notice. You won’t get 6 month notice because then you can prepare to move out. No one cares about any of your concerns because there is always right behind you trying to get a place. The tech industries have destroyed these once beautiful places. Paul Allen was a monster.

This was my thought too. I don’t live in nyc but I live in Hong Kong which buildings are quite close to each other and although my place has a decent view and good light people living in the building across can see straight into my room. In that case I would much prefer a wall with light than a decent view with neighbors looking in.

hey ive been binging these videos recently and ive got to say yours is one of my favourites because you go through everything you need to know. ive been looking at similar things to you on streateasy 1 bed/studio max 2500 bucks in downtown manhattan but all of these apartments you toured seemed so much nicer than the ones i could find!! the first apartment for example the view was just outstanding but i cant find anything like that in the price range! could you give me some tips? thanks!

Pretty similar circumstances to what is happening here in southern california. I was one of the lucky one’s whose lease was up when the rates dropped during covid and was able to move into a 2 bed 2 bath unit in my same complex for only $100 more a month than my 1 bedroom was going to be. I am currently paying $2319 before utilities and when I looked at prices a couple weeks ago, they want over $3700 for my same floor plan!

Wow. That was a lot of work. I can't get over how tiny all of the refrigerators and stoves were. Looks like they are camper size. Only unique thing about the apartment you choose was the location of the sink. Must be awkward to wash dishes. Good luck.

i’m not sure if you are American, i’m assuming you are, because the size of those stoves and fridges are the same size of stoves and fridges everywhere else in the world, except for America. Only in America will you find massive fridges. These are regular sized, and quite reasonable seeing as she’s only one person. What Americans consider “small” is actually just normal sized everywhere else lol. Big Fridges and big stoves lead to overconsumption and over consumerism. Bigger storage leads to buying even more food and crap you don’t need. Which is a problem America already has, we shouldn’t encourage even bigger storage for even MORE food, nor normalize huge fridges as normal and healthy. Not to mention a lot of that goes to waste. she doesn’t need that much. It looks like plenty, and like i said, she’s one person.

@@michelerodrigez6735 in Canada those would go in campers. And new York is in America so what’s your point? They use the camper one because there’s no space for a NORMAL sized appliance.

Lol as a New Yorker I 10/10 recommend moving out of the city, unless you make A LOT of money, it is not worth it or practical. The apartments are expensive, traveling is expensive, if you want a car; it’s so hard to find parking and your insurance is super high. To each their own but I couldn’t do the city anymore. 🤣💕

So you don’t have to read the article, they have showers in the kitchen because at one point there was no water. And when an act was passed that required them to have running water all the landlords thought it would basically be easier for them to have the showers/baths close to sinks (cuz then they’d only have to put in one piping system).

I'm amazed that NY apartments are actually shown mid-renovation, with old tenants still living in them or even dirty. How you feel about the laundry situation is how I feel about the amenities I thought were standard. Like not having central air and heating or a dishwasher would be a deal breaker for me. I also need a full kitchen, I don't know where they get those miniature stoves and refrigerators from lol.
