I've done the sleeper a few times and I've done it seated, in a standard cabin and in an en-suite cabin and I've got to say that the seats aren't the comfiest but I once paid only £20 from London to Glasgow and for that it's an absolute steal! That said though, if you can afford a cabin then absolutely it's the way to go. The beds are really comfy, even if you don't go for the crazy expensive double room option. Just beware that getting to the top bunk if traveling with someone else can be fun on a moving train 😅

The comparison was of the most and least expensive accommodations on that train, and there are a couple of other options in between. I would not do the trip in a seat, but unless I had plenty of money I'd probably pick a cheaper cabin. Having the private toilet and shower was nice, though. If you sleep well, you save the cost of one night in a hotel, so maybe the bedroom isn't such a bad deal! (London hotels aren't cheap.)

Caledonian Sleeper website is great now. Must have upgraded it. I've been on the sleeper to Penzance, which wasn't a patch on Caledonian. For example, the Penzance sleeper doesn't offer en-suite sleeping cabins. You have to use the toilet in the corridor. There are showers at Paddington and Penzance I think, but that's nowhere as good as the Caledonian offering.

Correct. Slàinte means "cheers". Don't hear it very often in the lowlands (where I live) mostly just at Christmas and new year dinners but the further north you go, the more common Gaelic becomes. Unfortunately, it is a dying language though. It isn't taught in schools very much so unless you learn from growing up surrounded by it or choose to learn via Duolingo or something then you won't hear it. I started learning about a year ago as I'm marrying a highlander and wanted to be able to say our vows in Gaelic at the handfasting.
