Hard knock start, to a life of entrepreneurship, luxury items, and rubbing shoulders with gangsters, footballers, and some of the most famous people in the world.
Paul Thorpe is a man who knows a thing or two about life. He shares his experiences of his school days with violent predatory teachers, his time in the boxing game, being Mohamed Al-Fayed's friend and confidante at Fulham F.C., attempts on his life, run-ins with the police.....

I grew up in rosehill back in the 70s and know Paul very well. We used to go drinking and clubbing together in the day. He’s a very genuine gezza and there’s no bullshit from him. He’s done really well and he always was going to. Remember his parents and they were a lovely couple. Well done Paul and a great interview Liam. Tony W

I grew up in Carshalton back in the 70s, got great childhood memories. I went to Rose Hill boxing club for a few years back in the day. I left school at nearly 15 with no qualifications made my own business become a millionaire by the time I was 40 and retired, then left the UK 5 years later and never looked back, I've had a great life , may it continue. 😊

"Had to do everything for them" - that was also the experience of a small and elderly woman I knew who had to seek treatment at a hospital after being assaulted and robbed. The police told her that the cameras on a large building outside where the crime was committed were all dummy cameras, so there was no footage of her attack. Knowing that many police personnel are lazy and inept, she asked a security staff member at the building, who informed her that all the cameras were operational and filmed everything around the entire perimeter of the building and the full length of the road. He then checked the footage and confirmed that it was available. She returned to the police to complain about their failings and to request a copy of the footage. She also informed them who the perpetrator was and where he lived, as he resided near her and had been shopping at the local Sainsbury's store. She had seen him as he entered the store and she exited it, and later saw him again as they both made their way to their homes, which is how she learned where he lived. When she aired her complaint to a police officer, he threatened to arrest her for stalking. She stood her ground and put him in his place. Her assailant was later convicted for the crime, thanks to her efforts in doing the work that the police were too lazy to do.

What a thoroughly, thoroughly, nice genuine down to earth man Paul is. I could sit and listen/watch him talk for twice as long as I just did. He speaks such sense and it's clear to see why people like Mr Al-Fayed wanted him around. Such a great straight talker, the sort I'd love to end up chatting to one afternoon in the pub. Good luck to you and your family wherever you end up Paul. And Liam, your new podcast is brilliant mate. I first saw you on James English's and loved listening to you, not so much some of your story due to the nature of it, but as soon as I saw you were doing one of your own I knew I'd definitely be a fan. Top interview guys, very interesting indeed.

Great podcast Liam, I grew up in Orpington but later moved down to Eastbourne. I couldn't agree more with last segment of the episode the downfall of England as a country and society has led me to move away and start a new life abroad. I feel sorry for those less fortunate then myself that have to grind it out in the UK with young families and have no way out, it frightens me what sort of life my God son of 6 and niece of 5 are going to have the way the England and frankly the world is headed.

What’s happening in in South Africa is going to be attempted in every white Christian country. So unless you’re outside that, you’re not going to be able to avoid it. It’s my strong belief we are all in this together because the other side has made it about race. And the middle of everything has been pushed aside so you’re either with them or against them. They’ve taken the fence away, so there’s nowhere for me to sit. I hate that. I can not be on the side of those who see TR as an enemy. Who are pro what he is against.

A couple of great blokes! Enjoyed the chat and agree wholeheartedly with the last comments. This country is doomed. Our own politicians have sold us down the river. Even a large majority of this country cannot see the impending catastrophe. Your Gary Linekers and Lily Allens of this world are so blind! As a working class boy from the NW, i grew up in a terraced house in the 70's. It makes me so mad i want to cry at the way our own people would call you racist or a bigot for voicing concern at the current state of this country. We need to wake up soon! Thanks for the video boys, it makes me feel like i am not alone! All the best!

Liam you're doing fantastic. Keep it going!! You're an excellent interviewer who listens to his guests and unlike other KZbinrs picks up on what they are saying and has the intelligence to continue the conversation, even when it may not be flowing in the direction that you had initially anticipated. Most KZbinrs have a series of questions that they rigidly stick to and even if a guest drops a bombshell they don't have the ability or confidence to change their line of questioning accordingly. The art of interviewing is being able to continue pressing for answers even when you're least expecting them and unprepared for them. You're fantastic at picking up on this which makes your interviews a real joy to listen to. You get so much more value with this open technique and i'm sure the guests feel far more at ease that the conversations are flowing naturally, rather than a regimented and concocted series of questions that only divulge a fraction of what could be revealed.

Interesting scenario in that first robbery, if it was not a double barrel shotgun but a blank firing pistol that was discharged, what would the police done then? Would it still be a problem? I have tried to find out about that but no clear answer has been presented to me. I know it’s of course not nearly as serious as a normal gun but I guess the police still would not like it and would try to charge?

I can sympathise with everything you talked about. Being a small business in retail you are a sitting duck for everyone to have a pop, with no help from anyone.
