Police and Villains are two teams cheerfully playing a game they understand well and have played for a long time. They respect each other’s tactics and know the rules inside out. The public however, especially victims, are an unwelcome intrusion into their game, a disruptive annoyance.

It's important that watch people understand the risks, particularly in the UK where the combination of degradation of policing standards and pathetic laws that favour the rights of criminals over victims, means this country is a land of opportunity for criminals - sadly. Healing from such ordeals take time albeit the scars will not completely disappear. Stay positive! Thanks again for sharing.

Over 20 yrs ago I left my work in London, sold my house. I don't know how many times I was mugged and burgled there, I was a nervous wreck at the end. The worst time was when I was getting in a lift in a block of flats, they jumped in+ I thought they were going to strangle me as one man pulled my scarf over my face (to stop me shouting). It was my bag they stole. I must say the locals were kind as I sank to the floor on the balcony, sobbing my heart out + they took me into their flat, phoned the police. In my case, the force was better because some time after I had a phonecall asking me to pick them out in a lineup. They had found my handbag with my N.Ireland driving licence which in those days was a booklet with a photo. However, I was terrified of picking out the wrong person in a lineup, especially as being naive from N.Ireland back then, I couldn't distinguish others' features well enough. - Time we all learned self defense but then in the shock, we might not use it.

I thought the UK was bad in terms of crime, but I was still considering visiting my wife's ancestral town in Wales with the family. This was an important public service announcement. It was also a brave act to share this, further putting you in the police crosshairs, or perhaps the path of their aimed baton in the UK. Thank you for sharing this. I have traveled to many countries of varying degrees of civility, but now realize the precautions that need to be made before and during a visit to the UK. It is basically the same for a country like Morocco. Not third world, but not exactly a place to wear a gold wedding ring. This isn't meant to talk down on the UK in general or its people, only the criminal aspect and selective enforcement of law. God be with you Mr. Thorpe. It is very possible your message will save a few from a similar fate, if only to avoid the locale and better prepare themselves when going out in the UK.

Moving story and really hope things have stabilized and you are more at ease with life. A long time ago I was friends with David Duggan ( now a very well established watch dealer) and he often travelled from his home in Lytham down to London and the Police informed him that they had viable evidence that he would be attacked & robbed whilst on one of these journeys but they were not sure where or when he would be done. Thankfully the police got the gang before they got to David but it stuck in my mind how much it troubled him prior to the arrests. Anyway good luck with whatever you are doing now.

@JamesandRibble
@JamesandRibble 3 жыл бұрын
@@Row2nd I think my logic has escaped you. Living in a better house gives you greater amenity, it's warmer, there is more space, it's a more pleasant place to live. These things can be objectively measured and subjectively felt. A £3,000 Tudor, when measured for its actual function, i.e. telling you what time of day it is, is every bit as capable as a £50,000 AP. You may prefer the look of the AP, and you may like the thoughts about what it says about you as a person (successful with good taste etc), but this is entirely subjective. Other people may quite legitimately think the Tudor scores better on both points. Anyway, that's my opinion, I just don't accept the house analogy.
@JamesandRibble
@JamesandRibble 3 жыл бұрын
Thinking about it, you are correct to an extent of course. Otherwise I would wear a Casio F-91 which I don't. However I do acknowledge that my watches, although costing considerably more than the Casio, don't do any better job of actually telling the time than the Casio. I guess it's all a question of degree. If you are wandering around London wearing a Rolex Sub, you just have to be aware that it makes you a target, sad though that is.
@bobby9741
@bobby9741 3 жыл бұрын
Think we need to remember the primary reason most people buy expensive watches, is to flash. Not all, but the majority of Rolex owners for example. If posing is the objective then you have no option and you take the risk of being mugged. If you're interested in and appreciate nice watches, you can get really great ones from brands no one has heard of to wear when you go somewhere where you might get targeted. I've got a GTM Master ii and an Explorer, and I won't wear them if I'm going somewhere, where I might be at risk. It's just not worth it and personally I think a Casio looks way cooler these days!

I've recently seen a case when someone attacked a teen boy..stabbed him in the head..and the punishment? The attacker had to write an apology letter and pay £50...I keep saying the UK is finished, it's not safe here at all...that's why I'm leaving in a few months for good

Such powerful, moving and maddening stories. I am glad you have your life yet feel for you deeply for having gone through so much. The stress of not knowing if you were going to be charged must have been like absolute torture. I try to train myself to give up a watch I am wearing but even though they are insured, there remains a chance if I don't guage the robber or robbers correctly and think I can defend myself or escape, I worry I might have a sad end. As a result of stories like yours and so many more in my big city, I rotate my collection more often and wear lower key models whenever i feel it's higher risk. That being said, since I won't stop wearing high end watches, a robbery can happen most anywhere. Sorry for your loss of feelings of any pride. Truth is you are stronger than ever and gained insight into your own strength, which is side by side in realizing how vulnerable we all actually are. God bless.

Poor Paul and Alfy, the police are not interested. It is the same in The Netherlands. When my Mother's most expensive rings were robbed and money., the police said there was nothing they could do I said to one of them, the robber, that I would get my gangster Friends from the UK to sort him out. I was so angry. Hope your robbers get their Karma and I am a firm believer in Karma, Paul. Thank you very much for sharing this sad happening with us. I think you and Alfy were very courageous. It was sad that there weren't many people about, they would not have been that brazen Thanks again, Paul, just enjoy the times you share with your Wife, Children, Family and Friends and the Public. Take care, Paul. ❤❤❤

I have watched Paul’s robbery videos here in Canada and I am shocked at the UK’s lack of police follow up in these matters. Here in Canada we have adopted British common law. The police and courts here are modelled after the several hundred year old British system. This destroys my view of the UK as a civilized first world society based on rule of law. I have never heard of such police disinterest in a violent crime here in Canada. As a citizen I have a direct and personal connection with my MP and I thought such avenues are open to you in the UK as well. We also have police ombudsman services, and the Provincial Justice Minister. I would be camping out on their doorsteps to get action if I was Paul. I am sad for Paul, and I am sad for the UK.

Paul, so sorry to learn of your horrendous experience. Truly heartbreaking. I live near Los Angeles. Virtually no one I know carries a good handbag or wears a special watch when venturing into the city. It's not wise given the amount of watch and handbag thieves there, even in tony Beverly Hills. More than likely, you were attacked by "youths", namely "foreigners", if you know what I mean. Police in the UK seemingly have little desire nor courage to effectively deal with violent thugs. As a former American cop while attending university decades ago, I do not observe many police patrolling anywhere in Southern California except to hand out traffic tickets. Otherwise, it seems they only respond to radio calls, long after the crime has been committed. My solution is simple; laws need to be changes allowing average people to be sufficiently trained and armed to deter such attacks. In the UK, "cat burglars" those who enter occupied homes at night are common. Not here in America. If a criminal enters into a home here, more than likely they will not walk out of their own power. Criminals need to be fearful not only the police, courts and average people who simply want to go on with their lives. Kicking out so-called "migrants" from certain countries would be a wonderful way to minimize crime and hopefully return GB to its former greatness.

And here’s the thing. One can accept the notion that the Police may not have the resources or budget to pursue every crime. But surely as criminals are allowed to walk free and continue to commit crimes unchecked, whatever resources and budget is available is under even more pressure. Absolutely astonished how short sighted the met are.

Hi I have watched all three parts and can not believe it the pain for you and your family must of been enough just from the first time but for the lack of help and support from the police to top it off must of been frustrating to say the least ,beyond heartbreaking . Sorry that you have had to give you job and passion up for it but I can also understand why . This could be a film it’s just so unreal ,keep strong

Is it worth it? I mean SERIOUSLY is it worth it? Putting yourself at risk for a lousy watch? I love watches, anyone who remembers my channel or who knows me will know this, but seriously, is the risk of being robbed and possibly injured or killed still not a reason to just find some other passion or interest? We all know watches are overpriced. As much as I love Rolex and other high end brands, I’m not that naive to believe that they are worth what they are. A steel Rolex is probably at most worst no more than £1000 in value to produce. And yet time and time again we are lining up to purchase ridiculously priced models, even more so on the used market due to the lack of availability, and then wonder why these things are targeted. The best thing the watch community could ever do to correct this is to simply stop buying. Stop buying these things and I promise that prices would tumble. We have to accept responsibility for this kind of shit happening. We’ve created this bubble. We’ve created this demand and exorbitant rise in value. We’ve allowed the values to grow to a point where criminals, as a profession, have to target them. Rolex is to blame for not reintroducing the lost and found resister. We are to blame for the inflation of value. No one has held a gun to our heads and forced us to buy a luxury watch. We have chosen to do so, and have chosen to perpetuate the ridiculous increase in not only retail price but also value.

High value watches today, but such audacious criminality will always be motivated to pursue a vulnerable mark if they want what you have. Police ineptitude has legitimised crime.

Hi paul, My wife and i have followed many of your stories over the past few months and were unaware that you had been robbed, we both watched your three videos last night and to say we were shocked is an understatement, we can imagine what you are going through , a few years ago we were also robbed, the safe taken with the shop takings, a hell of a lot of jewelry which had been handed down to anne from elderly members of our family, along with passports and other valuables, And again the police were not interested and were very rude and unhelpful and were contacting us at stupid times like 01.30 in the morning when it suited them and came on shifts, Once i told them my insurance had lapsed their attitude changed completely, I got the impression they thought we had done it and wanted to make a claim, Would be a pleasure to make contact with you in the near future and hopefully have a chat, Best regards Kev and Anne

Only just came across your videos, it’s a shame there’s not more brave & honest men like you out there. I personally had mixed dealings with the police, we had nightmare neighbours partying all night, blocking us in & ripping out plants. It all came to a head one night when at 3am with the party still going one of them threw a bottle at our window the police said they were too busy to come out but after I confronted him & then he & his mates made threats to me the operator told my wife that I should go indoors which i refused & told them to get someone here as one of them was going to hospital pretty soon that eventually 10 minutes later someone turned up & told them to go inside but wouldn’t actually go in & shut the party down as he was on his own H&S wouldn’t allow it 🙄 Then came up with some nonsense about a temporary order being put on them & the safer neighbourhood paw patrol would come round 🤬 Party still carried on till 9am & had another clash with them eventually leading some cops with balls to stop it give them some home truths & nick someone. Interestingly me & the wife both have had dealings with Sussex police after the wife’s car had the plates cloned & received 10 parking fines we reported it & even gave a description of the vehicle which had blacked out windows ours hasn’t, weeks later the missus was driving down the A21 & was stopped & the cop was extremely aggressive towards my wife who’s 5ft nothing then a week later I got stopped in Gatwick airport car park, so it would seem their cameras do work when they want. Anyway health & happiness to you & your family, good luck for the future.
