This is criminally underrated and I'm lowkey mad I haven't seen this sooner! Better late than never though, I suppose. Eda and Luz's mother-daughter relationship is one of my favourite relationships in the show. Thank you for this! Beautiful.

Who else thinks the “Hunger Games” song “safe and sound” would be a perfect amv song for Eda and Luz.

You know why I find Eda and Luz's relationship even more special? Unlike most characters who are from different worlds and come across each other in one of their worlds where one has to adjust to that world. The characters are forced to get to know one another which is predictably difficult for the first few episodes due to their surroundings, believes, and opposite feelings towards life, morality, etc. Which causes them to detest one another and only gets better during usually the middle of the first season where she strange past secrets causes them to open up to each other, which leads to them becoming true companions by the second season. Where here with Luz and Eda of The Owl House is Different. What separates their character growth from all the others is that even at the start of the series, they had no problems toward each other and were willing to give each other a chance. This is, in my opinion, a refreshing way to start a series, especially with Eda as she willingly looked out for Luz and held no prejudice or disgust towards the girl despite Luz being a human. Even if Eda needed Luz to help get King's crown back, it was not the only reason why she kept Luz unharmed, as she sent Luz to safety when Warden Wrath attacked them when she could've just as easily abandoned Luz. And when Luz decided to stay with Eda on the Boiling Isles, Eda was interest by the idea, rather than hesitant or disgusted you'd expect to see in these kinds of series. This in my opinion shows that even in the beginning, Eda was far from heartless, and how much of an open book she was and still is, even from all the scorn she received from the other inhabitants of the Boiling Isles. True she had some secrets she'd rather not have Luz find out, but hey even if wasn't as curse, its understandable I mean don't we wall have secrets we'd rather not tell anyone even our own friends. As for Luz, well she was always an open book, but a bit too open. She was never afraid to let her fun side out but her weird strange antics caused a lot of trouble at her school, not to far from the trouble Eda causes on the boiling isles. Upon meeting Eda, Luz was understandably frightened but upon realizing Eda had no intention of eating her, she too wasn't afraid to open up to Eda, as Eda did with her. During Luz's time living with her in the Owl House, Eda was never abusive towards Luz, nor did she ever consider Luz useless and disposable, like thinking of selling her sure sometimes Eda would take advantage of Luz, having her sell packages and potions, and does tease her from time to time, to was all in mischievous fun and never in a cruel manner. As with Luz, her excitement and impatience to learn magic were extremely understandable, I mean a chance to learn how to do something beyond any human standards imaginable but have very limited time to do so you can understand her frustration and eagerness at the same time especially when it seems Eda isn't really trying to teach Luz any magic. But like Eda, Luz was already a caring person and the mistakes she made were not from selfishness, but from her excitement and wondrous imagination (such as the quest from the evil puppeteer) or willing desire to help others around her, stand up for her new friends or make amends with the people she wronged, even when it wasn't her fault (such as defending King from Amity at the convention by challenging her to a duel, apologizing to Amity after being tricked by Amity's siblings into reading her diary, or taking Amity's place for From despite Luz's lack of experience) Also she rarely ever puts her own wants and needs before others, especially when she feels responsible such as helping Eda to her nest after constantly nagging her to teach her a spell.

This what I find Eda and Luz's bond special. Eda was always an open book and was never afraid to let her caring side show, just her emotional one. And Luz was a caring girl whose excitement and wondrous imagination would often get the better of her and cause her to jump into things without thinking or talking it over with Eda. All theses flaws are something we all have and what's more extraordinary about it for Eda and Luz's characters is that they could've easily let them and all the shunning they've received overshadow their judgment and outlook of life and cause them to be distant and untrustworthy toward each other initially. But surprisingly they didn't. Both Luz and Eda were more than willing to give each other a chance and just as willingly to put their lives on the line for each other, despite only just meeting each other. All these positive aspects are only a small part of what caused Eda and Luz's already acceptance toward each to continue to grow into the strong mother-daughter bond we've grown with during our time watching The Owl House.

OW…MAJOR OW😓😓 Okay, so this video got me thinking about season 2 of the owl house. Does anyone else feel like Luz and Eda’s relationship really isn’t the core of the show, anymore? I guess that’s not a bad thing, the world is getting more complicated, Eda and Luz are both in very nice relationships, and there’s so many other plot threads to deal with in a somewhat short period of time. But I think the reason season 2 hasn’t made me cry yet, and Agony of a Witch made me like bawl is because the mother and daughter thing between Eda and Luz hasn’t had a second season 1 finale moment: at least, not in the same way. Not saying season 2 isn’t emotional, I’m not even saying season 1 is better, but I’m just saying I really hope we get another episode that focuses on them in the same kind of nostalgic/beautiful way that late season 1 did. Again, there have been moments here and there throughout season 2, and the closet the season got me to crying was in episode 207 when Raine asked, “Eda do you have kids?” But I still just feel like they can be doing more, and Amity and Raine might be distracting them from the heart of the show, which is Luz and Eda’s bond, imo- Feel free to disagree, I especially feel like disagreements may be present after the most recent episode, considering how amazing the scene about Luz’s dad was…but like, for example: Luz told Amity about that on screen. Luz also told Amity about her mom on screen. Meanwhile, Luz told Eda about her mom off screen, and it was purely mentioned through passive dialogue. Do y’all think the same thing will happen with Luz’s dad? Luz did say she doesn’t talk about it much, so of course they shouldn’t force it, in any way. And it certainly wasn’t forced in Reaching Out, the whole thing felt very natural. But still, some of these moments and some of these emotional breakthroughs, I feel can be given to the parental relationship that makes up the shows heart. Although, I do understand, lumity for life
