in my opinion LXQT is the right choice for who want to use a desktop environment without talking much ram

Lxqt is really lightweight DE , is nice for someone that move just from windows also had nice file manager that is pcmanfm-qt But yeah we need little bit effort to make lxqt look nicer

I think it's prettier than LXDE and Xfce out of the box

Thanks Ermanno. Had it on my PC some days ago already (because I mainly use Openbox also). Lxqt is very small, but surprisingly complete. Many options to tweak and of course most KDE resources at your disposal also. I still prefer Openbox, but Lxqt really puts it all together in a comprehensive DE.

Excellent overview, thank you very much. I've been looking forward to LXQt for quite some time - I need to put it on something and test it :)

Nice little desktop system, if I was using DEs I would probably use this, thanks Master Ermanno.

A "retro look" for "old machines". 300Mo of memory, it looks like Rasbian isn't it ? So, thanks one mor time for the quality of your videos (specially for the preparation...).

Hi! I would be interested in a video exploring how viable it would be, now that there is a modular QT desktop, to use LXQT components to build a GTK-free desktop around a WM. Is that something you would be interested to do?
@mustafababdullah24853 жыл бұрын
It doesn't seem that long ago that it was switched from lxde to lxqt. Many use open box as the wm for lxqt

I really like the Qt toolkit.. Nevertheless, I love Qtile

if only LXQt had a window manager like DWM integrated, I would run this combo until my fingers and eyes become unusable ! It would be the most perfect thing created imo !

Hello Ermanno, great video and awesome news about LXQT 1.0 releasing, I was wondering if you'd ever have your own discord for this lovely community you've grown. Cheers and have a great day as always!

It's more than a light weight desktop environment. The OS requires not only less ram (349MB)!! but also less cpu cicles, that means you can run more apps and have more cpu power for software. I have done testing on high quality youtube videos running at 60fps on an old computer and it turns out LXQT performs better even than XFCE and ahead than gnome or kde. If you have an old PC or you simply want something very light weight. LXQT is the right choice. The goal is to crate a desktop environment that is ultra light weight and still looks good.

Hello Mr. Ermanno...kernel 5.15 came to the Arch stable kernel release...but there is some problems with udisk for ntfs. Would you like to make a video on these lines...and/or mention some temporary workarounds for NTFS3 driver?

An openbox-like experience with QT. Sounds interesting. I don't think I caught what compositor it uses, maybe latte dock could work well on it?

2:00 Ermanno can you make a video on how to download packages from git or other repositories AUR etc and then build and install them? (Also removal process) thank you!

Really loved the video. I am new to linux and I really enjoy these kind of videos where someone is tinkering with the DE. But I would like to hear a little more detail about the choices you are making as to improve my understanding of linux. For ex: Why didn't you download the complete xorg & if someone wants to install qt on debian based what should be done differently??? I know this is nitpicking but it would help a lot to viewers like me. Thanks...

Interesting video, Ermmano. I've been hearing about LXQt for some time now, but your the first (of course) who's done a rather thorough video about it. Truth is, I don't know how I feel about this DE. Guess it applies in situations with very old laptops with underpowered CPU's and little available RAM?

That too, but it fits the needs of someone who’s looking for a light de as well

Hi, I use LXQt de and it's very light on my dell e6410 model laptop "I know it's very old", but no matter what theme I choose; it will not apply on pcmanfm-qt file manager. So is there a way to change theme for pcmanfm-qt? side note: I like dark themes, but pcmanfm-qt is very eye blinding.

I love Lxqt. The problem I have is to have some kind of tiling windows. I am not an expert. So, it is difficult to me to have the windows I need open in the same workspace. I love Dwm because of this feature but I would like to use LXQT with tiling windows without being out of the Lxqt DE. If someone call help me I will appreciate. Thank you Ermmano for your good work.

I'm surprised that you didn't say anything about the new release of Rockie Linux to 8.5 and has a full signed shim and Microsoft signed off on it also.
@eflinux3 жыл бұрын
AlmaLinux had that already before Rocky. Being CentOS replacements, those are more geared to servers. I might cover both in the future in a server video series.
