@@LydiainLyonafter how much time of treatment a baby can cure. Is any difficulty in running or dancing Please reply Sorry for my poor english
@LydiainLyon3 жыл бұрын
Hi @@ruchijha6422, it depends on the case, but with the Ponseti method usually the casts part lasts about two months (each set of casts progressively stretches the feet into position, they stay on for a week at a time and the last one a bit longer). Then, they wear a brace, the boots and bar, at first all day, then progressively less, pretty soon it's just for when they sleep until they are around 4 years old. But it depends on the case of course.

Thank you so much for posting this lovely video of your son's clubfeet journey. Our 6yr old adopted son who joined us only 2 months ago was born with spina bifida and bilateral clubfeet. He had to undergo quite a few corrective surgeries before we even knew him. To the untrained eye he comes across as a typically active boy who always seems to be jumping and running around now. So grateful to all the medical staff and the caretakers who looked after him well all these years. Your video gave me a glimpse of what his journey was probably like while we weren't with him. Thanks again❤️.

My son and DIL have always been serious about making sure their son was in his braces and they followed the Dr's instructions to the letter. Grandson will be four in a month, and he is doing EXCELLENT! He is still in the braces overnight, but during the day he walks, runs, jumps and shows no signs that he ever had club feet! In a few weeks they will make their next visit to Dr. Dobbs in St Louis and, if all looks good, he will be out of the braces for good!

I was born in 1962 with bilateral ‘club feet’. My feet were manually repositioned at birth. My mother always said she was glad they took me out of the delivery room for this because she didn’t think she would have survived watching the doctors do that to me. Then from time I went home till 2 years I wore a straightening brace that held my two feet parallel to each other. I also wore orthopedic shoes for the next 15 years. I never wore sneakers or flip flops till I was in Junior high school. Thank goodness medical intervention has come a long way in 60 years! Hi, so very happy to see Jonas making a full recovery and leading a happy healthy life, What a Sweet little fella. ❤😊 So I had breech delivery and my son was born with unilateral club foot, we started the Ponseti method as early as he was 2 weeks old( He'll be turning 2 months this month end) everything was going great but on his 3rd casting, we noticed mild bruises on his foot after we removed the previous cast. Did this happen with anyone out there?? I understand he's a newborn his skin is sensitive and loose but this just broke my heart. The Dr's and the technicians always take great care and wrap his foot in cotton before casting, yet this happened. Nonetheless we are continuing the casting method each week but every week I go through extreme anxiety before his cast is removed hoping there are no new skin injuries inside. If any parent out there experienced this please ping back and share your thoughts on the same, it would help us.

(I can't exactly remember) And he pulls up to standing all the time now at 10 months, he's been totally on track so far with milestones. Our doctor likes to say if a child takes a little longer to do something, they were going to arrive there at that time regardless of the clubfoot. @LydiainLyon3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I'm not sure about exact weight of the casts, (I have kept a few of them in storage so I should check sometime!) but they are a bit heavy for a baby. He was able to lift his legs though and move them around, he developed some good core strength by the end. Each set of casts is kept on for a week, and the final set after the tenotomy procedure is on for three weeks. So considering we had five sets (if I remember correctly), that would be a total of about 7 weeks in casts.

I was born with both club feet in Australia, and I can safely say that it is a journey. I’m 20 now with about 8 or so surgeries on my right foot and 10 on my left to my name, probably more to come. Unfortunately at the time, as my doctor says, the ponseti method wasn’t generally used so instead I went straight into surgeries. The reason the ponseti method is so heavily used now is because the aftermath of surgery is avoided with the same results, if not better. My feet are still not straight, and i cannot participate in physical activity that involves any form of strain on the feet, because they are just too weak. Yes it’s annoying and I’m petty much always in pain when I walk after 10 mins but it doesn’t really affect me; I don’t let it affect me. Do I think surgery was the best option? Absolutely not. Will my feet ever be straight? Definitely not. Do I care? Hahahaha nope.
@LydiainLyon6 жыл бұрын
Wow that is quite a journey, I'm sorry to hear that you still have so much pain. I don't mean to pretend like it's all roses and butterflies, I hope that's not what people get from this video -- but I'm so grateful we have much wider access to the Ponseti method nowadays, I'm hopeful for a better outcome for my son in the future and from what I'm told and what we've experienced so far, as you mention, not having to do surgery means he has a chance at relatively normal feet with significantly less pain. Thank you so much for sharing your story, it's one reason I hope to share the word far and wide about the Ponseti method! That is awesome that you don't let the pain get you down!

@@ashithat2979 hello! I am almost 18 now and I still have a lot of problems. Mobility in my feet is very limited and I still walk on the sides. I am currently in the process of receiving custom orthotics to keep my feet in the right place as I walk. I am also in physical therapy for this as well a genetic condition that I was recently diagnosed with called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. While it’s not often seen in my type of the condition many forms cause clubfoot so it is likely the cause of mine considering my sister was also born with clubfoot. Ehlers Danlos Syndromes can cause a LOT of problems which includes joint hyper mobility and pain so clubfoot is most likely not the only reasons for the pain in my feet. I was born with club foot on both feet and I wasn't so lucky unfortunately haha. I'm nearly 16 and I've had 7 operations (one more next year)

Ashlee Dolan I’m sorry, that is really tough! Did you have a bad doctor to start off or was your case just more complex? I know it’s not always smooth sailing, I just share our story because a lot of people worry when they first hear their child has clubfoot and they panic because they see scary stories. But it doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom, many cases are simple and straightforward too! And of course, some are not. Good luck with your upcoming surgery, I hope it goes well for you!

Thank you for sharing your story. You have a beautiful family.. how soon do you have to start with the casting? My baby is 18 days born. And has one club foot only.. and barely going to take him to a orthopedic
@LydiainLyon6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it :) There's some great information here www.clubfoothub.com/about-casting.html with more details on treatment procedures. But don't stress about only now getting started: some children (like in international adoptions, for example) start treatment after they're several years old! Not to mention not everyone knows before the baby is born that they have clubfeet. I would highly, highly recommend finding an orthopedist who is trained in the Ponseti method however -- most orthopedists don't specialize in clubfoot treatment and don't have the skill or experience. This page has a good list of questions to ask an orthopedist: www.clubfoothub.com/im-expecting.html and you can find Ponseti doctors by location here: www.ponseti.info/ponseti-doctors-by-location.html

My daughter was born with a club foot (right foot only) however her case is really mild. Did your little one have a hard time with the BNB? We are currently going through bracing, as the doctors are trying to avoid surgery. It’s been really rough. Any tips/pointers?
@LydiainLyon4 жыл бұрын
I've found some great advice on the Clubfoot Connection Facebook page, as well as www.clubfoothub.com/ -- it is a little tough the first little bit but it got much easier for us once we were all used to it -- and definitely easier once he was only wearing the boots for night and naps! One thing I would say is make sure the boots fit properly, I've seen a lot of families in that Facebook group posting about the boots not staying on, etc. when the boots are HUGE on their kids! I think some doctors are trying to avoid having to make them buy multiple pairs so they size them up, but that makes it a huge pain to try to fit them! We started in size 000 and worked our way up one size at a time. Otherwise I have a few tips on fit and socks, etc here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5CWm3l7lrh_Y80 Good luck!

Hoping there's someone out here who's done with boots and bar that's willing to donate. I'm from the Philippines and it's a struggle finding used mitchell boots in here. We cannot afford to buy brandnew mitchell boots 🥺🙏

Yes, it's so tough to see them go through it! Luckily little ones adapt so fast -- hopefully in no time this will get a little easier, and before you know it casts will be over!

Hai. May I know whether do the baby do have any pains due to clubfoot? And is now your baby fully recovered recovered? Really in pain of seeing my baby clubfoot.
@LydiainLyon6 жыл бұрын
Hi, as far as I can tell he doesn't seem to deal with pain. He walks and runs now, climbs furniture, etc. and seems rather content. He doesn't seem to be bothered by the boots and bar (brace) he wears at night. But I do see his walking doesn't seem quite as strong and assured as other children his age -- he does just fine but he looks like a walker of a few months younger, if that makes sense.

Hi at my 20wk scan the Dr told me that baby is in breech and has bilateral clubfoot. What are the chances that this is a positional clubfoot due to the way baby is lying which will rectify itself once baby is born?

This is my granddaughters picture, but this is a happy grandma writting my comment, my grandson & his sister (twins) born February 20, 2018 has his first Shriners appointment tomorrow for his feet, your happy family just assured all of us to a happy outcome, we were told his right foot was mild to moderate, his left foot just looks alittle pigeon toed but will get same treatment, again THANK YOU for putting our minds, and hearts at ease. OH! and luckily we don't live to far either just in Layton, to SLC
@LydiainLyon6 жыл бұрын
Oh I'm so glad to hear this! It certainly is scary to hear your perfect (grand)baby has something not quite "perfect," but it's so treatable and while there are tough times, it's not nearly as bad as I feared! One day at a time and soon it's like a bad dream! And it sounds like your grandson has a pretty mild diagnosis, that's great!

How is your baby now ? My baby is using Boots and bar for 14 hrs . Sometimes she refused to use , it's really tough time for me
@LydiainLyon3 жыл бұрын
yes it's a little hard to get used to at first but if the fit is good (I'd check with your doctor if you think they don't fit correctly) then they usually are able to get used to them after a little bit, my son did great with them after the initial adjustment period. He's now four years old and just wears them at night, we're approaching the end of bracing. Good luck, hang in there!
