Given Israel had been caught up in idolatry for hundreds of years that would have left her rather superstitious. Therefore, Israel could easily have thought the Moabite god directed great wrath toward them. A child sacrifice was the last ditch to get a god’s help! "Great wrath" is typically used for the wrath of any god. The text does not indicate that the source of the wrath came from God, as in the ONE true God. This was Israel's battle, and with them leaving, the other two kings had no reason to stay. Israel never got herself straightened up regarding idol worship, and refused to repent so eventually she got carried away by the Assyrian’s. Law breaking always carries consequences.
