Hi Brent maybe do a video on all the specialty tools used in the engine assembly of an FE. Over the last year or so I have seen some great custom tools that you use and have replicated a few maybe you can shed some light on the vendors you get them from thanks as always great videos and details to help out for builders

I see on the heads next to the exhaust ports a hex plug. My 68 Torino 390 had what I called a "puck pump" that was plumbed to all those same port holes. Many times I see videos and pictures of heads that do not have those holes. Was that only on 68 and 69 models with FE motors?

@brantardrey73602 жыл бұрын
@@dannycalley7777 not on everything it just depends on how sunk sunk is? I've had them popped up above the chamber floor I've had them level with the chamber floor and I've seen them a teeny bit below but level with the chamber floor is as low as I have ever had them or seen them but it also depends on the valve if they're lightweight and tulip they look recessed?

Hi Brent,I’m in the process of coming up with my cylinder head component combination,1962 406 fe 6v, all modernized internals,solid flat tappet lightened valve train, t&d rocker kit,stock heads I like the idea of the l,s valves and 5/16” dia, nice and light My machinest only feels comfortable using 11/32’ stems when I asked him back in the day about 5/16’ watching from junky junk, What do you think about the 5/16’ L,s valves and is hardened seat only on the exhaust ok machinest says only exh has to be done,btw I’m ordering my custom cam from you when my component selection narrows down and gets final choosing,thanks brian from toronto Canada,your channel is much appreciated by me
@lykinsmotorsports3 жыл бұрын
I use 5/16" and even 7mm in a lot of FE heads. No issues. Also, unless you're building a truck and will be doing some heavy towing, you don't need any hardened exhaust seats.

How do you plug the Exhaust cross over on the cast heads when using RPM intake. Thank You
@briannuccitelli13493 жыл бұрын
Morning Brent, what part number /manufacturer bronze inserts are you using when milling off the cast factory spring locater on oe fe heads? I’m going to do a similar set up here in Canada using 11/32” or 5/16” stems

Do brass guides last longer than original cast iron? I had a terrible time when I was running mine 40 years ago. With a mild cam, stock springs, etc. I could only get 4k miles out of them and the valves and guides would be completely worn out. I'm sure the trick now is roller rockers, smaller valve stems for less weight, etc.
@lykinsmotorsports3 жыл бұрын
They will last an extremely long time. As mentioned below, every aftermarket aluminum head will have bronze valve guides. You can imagine the extent of that, both OEM and aftermarket.

Hi Brent I hope you do something with 390 gt engine

I've never learned much about the details of putting guides in so lately I've been trying to educate myself & am rebuilding a set of C4AE-G heads for a 390 I'm doing for my pickup. If I want to use spring locators do I buy them based on what size guide I put in the heads??
@lykinsmotorsports2 жыл бұрын
Yep. But most bronze guides are made to fit a .570" ID locator.

@@lykinsmotorsports ok, thank you. I been wondering if they have a universal size or if the O.D. varied.

I want to install my own custom valvetrain hardware too on my hot rod turbo charged 390 (no race use) so looking into buying a set of bare aluminum castings, do you recommend the Pro Max cnc versions, or what brand you would go with? My budget is 2 grand for a pair of bare castings..

Hi Cecil it’s the head owner. Not a crack. I saw that also. Just a trick of light. Brent re magged the heads and they are clean. They’ve been through three machine shop’s bringing them back from the dead. Somebody would have seen it. All good.

To me the coverage heads were what was used on the 429s intakes for big enough to almost put a beer can in a great set of heads for any big block Ford engine 460 that's the true coverage it had little exhaust work very little intake work and you have a great set of heads. I even modified the stock cast iron intake excellent flow.
@myname93372 жыл бұрын
What the hell are you blathering about? The FE heads don't fit a 429.

There's a difference between baked/tumbled/shot blasted and "dirty". These heads are certainly not dirty.

For me, why not use a 429 / 385 engine a much better design and higher flow rate.
@lykinsmotorsports2 жыл бұрын
Because these engines are built for customers. Not everyone wants to ditch their engine for an entirely different engine family. Some customers are loyal to the engine that came in their vehicle. I, for one, commend that sorta thing. Otherwise, everyone would have cookie cutter builds with LS engines jammed down in them.
@myname93372 жыл бұрын
The 385 engine isn't a better engine. It also isn't something I'd put in my Shelby.
