I was pitted with Robert Pond a couple years ago. Great guy. I know some people that use a lot of his parts. My friend still has an original T-bolt.

Love the videos. Your always asking for things we’d like to see. I think it would be cool to see you tear down a used engine before you rebuild it. Showing the wear and explaining what causes the common problems and what and why you do to correct those short comings in the rebuild. I’m not talking a junkyard motor that hasn’t run in years but a running engine out of a vehicle that’s ready for a rebuild/upgrade. Anyway, that’s something I’d find interesting

I saw Bobby Fazio interview Mr Pond at a drag race somewhere. Mr Pond was racing a car he entered. Learned he manufactured FE blocks and Cyl heads. I thought of you and wondered if you ever used the Pond products. I guess this answers that question.

I can see a problem with the oil drain back in the valley this is a problem to get the oil back to the pan on a race engine

It’s never been a problem.

If this block uses a standard crank, how did they find the meat for such huge bores when the stockers can’t? Do these blocks over heat during street use?
@lykinsmotorsports2 жыл бұрын
It's all in the area between the cylinders. Lots of these blocks have siamese cylinders. This block was just a 4.250" bore, which is something any factory 427 block can do as it's just .017" over stock. The aftermarket FE blocks will go to a 4.375" bore pretty easily. It's also a common misconception that a thin bore will make an engine overheat. If that were the case, every 351C would not be able to run at normal temperatures.

I would think that a new $4,700 block 1. Should have a perfect Alinebore! 2. Decks should be at least Parallel. 3. A spec sheet with tips on what else to do or check on your new block. Like watch cam bearing clearance to distributor gear. 4. What does everyone else think. Yes I understand it would be going to a machinist but it would sure help.

I have yet to see any aftermarket block from any manufacturer (including Dart, Ford Racing, etc.) that doesn't need practically everything. I think they're meant to be a blank slate so that professional engine builders can size everything the way they prefer to size them. The Pond block does include a spec sheet, but over the years I've found little ways of getting around things, such as the front cam bearing. What's crazy is that you have to pay about $6500 for a new Dart aluminum Windsor block or $7500 for a new Shelby aluminum FE block and they require all the work above, plus setting the sleeves, etc. Things are getting crazy expensive these days.

How much would BLOCK cost from Pond ?
@lykinsmotorsports2 жыл бұрын
About $4600.

No sense to buy old blocks for over $2,000. Just save more and buy a New Stronger Big Bore capability!!!!

1965 427 engines were black. Not blue. Blue engine paint started in 1966.

Not a good idea to build an engine on that kind of stand. You're stretching and stressing the block and won't get precise measurements.
@lykinsmotorsports2 жыл бұрын
Says who? My 1200 hp pulling truck engines that come back for freshening show that my measurements are pretty precise....

They’re welcome to do it any way they wish. The top race engine builders that come to mind right now are Moran, Musi, and Jon Kaase. Google their names. They all have engines on stands. Just like mine.
@Richard-yk3cf2 жыл бұрын
@@lykinsmotorsports common sense should tell you that when you hang a heavy hunk of metal(with several large holes in it) supported on only one end that it will stretch. Glidden measured it and only built on a bench. Only the greatest Pro Stocker of all time.

Feel free to call all the guys I mentioned up above and tell them they’re all building their 1500-2000 hp engines wrong. I’ll wait for you to report back.
