Games workshop designers sometimes make the ugliest models. But with lore as interesting as warhammer, it can be disheartening to see such cool ideas left in the garbage with the production of ugly miniatures. Today, I'm using AI to recreate some of games workshops worst models with the hope of creating something to live up to the epic darkness of the far future.

It's really gross that you're contributing to the popularization of ai just to further your own youtube career. Are you paying subsidiaries to all the artists whose work was amalgamated and used to not only train the ai, but create your image? No? So you're stealing from them as well. a bit of a personal gripe but i always get kind of annoyed when people try and speculate to why a design is weird (EG new huge gun space marines) they usually get there after a bunch of rounds of revisions from different people. its almost never an artist phoning it but more likely an art director or a franchise person who cant effectively explain the direction they want to take it so just kind of compromise on something that hits the notes but kind of lacks overall appeal

This. Both me and my partner are concept artists, and its almost never the one you think is the strongest and best one youve designed that gets picked. Theres always a pull away from artist vs director/audience and it can sometimes end in an awkward midground if neither party want to compromise. Also, while they may be “derpy” to Lyla, none of the minis (apart from the ancient genestealers models) are bad, (especially Lauka Via, even though i would do things differently i think its stunning) they are just polarising and trying to do something unique. Lyla “fixing” them with AI isnt improving the existing design, its just dumbing it down to the lowest most generic form possible, which is what AoS models in particular really try to avoid. These might not be her fav, your fav or my fav but theyre absolutely multiple someones favourite.

To most people, vampire=sexy, it would appear to me. I prefer my vampires to be more savage, monstrous, and alien, here. I'm none too keen on AI art, myself, because as you discovered? It can't quite nail the level of inspiration and creativity that humans can muster. That last Genestealer take looked like an evil chameleon, with the eyes especially giving that vibe. I agree that the Slaanesh demon was the best of the lost because good grief, that model is derpy.

I think I get what you're saying Lyla Mev . The Fiends of Slaanesh do look "derpy?" But the redesign sort of looks like a whole new monster/ daemon / nightmare creature of some kind. I think the existing model works because Chaos and maybe Slaanesh in particular are supposed to be a mess of ideas because the powers of Chaos can't make sense of our material universe.

Vampire + Eidolon of Mathlann makes me think of some cool kitbashes I've seen where people paint the big wave cape to look like blood. It's stunning, and really just shows how creative people can get with the offerings GW provides. If only THEY could come up with those ideas! 😂😂

After reading the comments a couple stuck out at me. One by the concept artist and one about you being an Art Teacher. I ran across someone who was drawing pictures on youtube from lore descriptions. ( unfortunately i did follow or pay attention to who it was. props to the guy though). Why not draw some yourself or send to FIVER. then do a side by side ? Might be a great side track for this series.

The problem with 'AI' is that it rips off existing artwork and tries to force fit your description to it. You won't find AI creating any completely original works. That's just not how it works.

as an illustrator and game fan, I'd rather get inspiration from the existing models and recreate them myself, might take days, not seconds though... AI are scary though, I dread the day the perfect them so much that folks like me get put out of business

for the average person the pictures it creates are already 'good enough' that they will put people like you out of business. The one thing stopping it is the simple fact there is a legality issue as to what copyrights need to be used as there is rarely a list of the art used to train these 'AI' generators.

Lyla, please get off of the A.I. hypetrain at the nearest stop and go to an art supply store. I don't know how many tech channels there are on YT, but you don't need to be one of them. Sure, use an A.I. program to inspire a kitbash and paint job. But show us THAT. Not how well or badly the tech works. You are an Art teacher. There is great good in that!

The genestealer does not six limbs?.. Thank you for the vid. I have been trying to explain to people that it is just another art form. Like all art it takes practice and skill to learn. You proved this with this video. Yes I like AI but I also like many other types of art. Yours for example is one of my favourite. Will yours skill and ability be replaced by AI. NO because they are YOURS. You bring something unique, just alike all artists. the more I think on this I now really want GW to bring out A derpy line of minis !! they would be so fun to paint as they are meant to be funny.

Yes ... there is skill in getting good results out of it, just like it takes skill to take good looking pictures with a photocamera instead of handpainting it. the problem is that people use it to generate a ton of crap at a rate no human can ever hope to match while not acknowledging the fact that they used it. The even bigger problem is that we don't know whose assets were used to train the AI as the program isn't explaining how it got the results, which means that even in a best case scenario the source artists aren't rewarded for their work.

It is the problem with its lore mostly - taking it seriously and going for sensory excess you would result in real nightmare fuel. Same problem with dark eldar tbh - they more of then not feel more like a bunch of cosplayers. 😂

@@LylaMev On all of them :) WOuld have been more satisfiyng to go in details, i'm not a fan of those IAs, but i hear that is possible to put quite a lot of efforts in detailling your text, giving levels of importance to your specifications and all. You did only 3 tries per mini, if i listen to what people say, it's normal not to get very compelling results with this few. It requires a bit of digging. That was actually the fun i expected from the video before clicking on it :) But i did enjoy it though, as always with your videos ! :)

@08:40 : It gave the model space marine armor because you specified warhammer 40k, and the model has been trained with about a billion Spehs Muhreens at this point. Anything that is 40K will get pauldrons and the Mark X tacticool armor at this point :D
